Anyone else disappointed how they handled the GTA IV characters?

When he said "Just like the old country" in Serbian to Niko, in which he replied also Serbian "Just like it" with this look of surprise and temper at the same time, I felt a chill from this scene and respected the charisma of ULPC

Agreed I also liked how he responded when Niko asked if he was FIB: "Do I look homosexual? Do you think I care about the size of your Johnson?"

Considering the jokes Steve Haines and Dave Norton were...he was right lol

UL Paper contact > Haines and Norton.

I mean the dude doesn't even need a name.

-Extradicting the man Niko chased for 10 years out of another country, and bringing him to LC as a retribution for the work Niko has done;

I think the word you are after there is 'restitution'.

Well I think we all agree that bring IV characters back was unnecessary. I mean, I know it's the same universe, but V tone is completely different.

Also, just take a look at IV section sometime, things there are incredibly peaceful comparing to here.

That's because nobody here who enjoys V cares enough to bother going into a forum for a game we have little use for. I have better things to do with my time than go into the forum for some garbage excuse for a GTA game and argue against it. What could we possibly gain in there?

When I want a hot dog, I just take a ride to Coney Island and stop at the original Nathan's, which is 100 years old. :p

Thank god for that, you (+ with some of the other V fans) are already dragging this subforum down with the mindless IV bashing in every thread.

Yeah we get it V is perfect and IV is complete garbage, how many times are you going to say that per day?

Guys guys, just ignore them if it annoys you. Keep the discussion flows here.

@topic : the only disappointment was the way they handles Johnny K. If they made him an antagonist it would have been MUCH better. The IV haters would love it too me thinks :D

It would be an interesting situation if Johnny was Trevor's antagonist seeing as I love Johnny, but hate Trevor. I guess in that instance I'd be rooting for the bad guy.:D

And that's a bad thing? I'd have Johnny kill Trever time and time again. :^:

I only bash Snore when you guys bring it up and hold it out as the absurd gold standard, when V is ten times the game. If you guys would stop that, we would gladly never talk about Snore again.

This is an answer to Journey_95 as well.

On Topic: I think that Rockstar showed the cameo Snore characters more than enough respect in this game. Especially Johnny. Actually, the only way they could have improved their handling of Johnny would have been instead of Johnny's execution being a non-interactive cut-scene, they could have added a button-mashing sequence where the player got to make Trevor kick in his face over and over again. Kind of like the Yoga sequences or other quick time event, where you would keep hitting X or A to kick his face in repeatedly while you rotated, say the left analog stick around its axis to spin Trevor's body around to make some of those kicks roundhouse.

That would have been a more fun way of dispatching the washed up meth head after bending his girl over the trailer sink.

They should have made Johnny an antagonist for Trevor in a small story arc that spans for like 5 missions. It would have been very interesting, and it would have been easily better than killing him straight into our faces, which is an insult to TLAD fans like me. If there was a mission in which Trevor kills Johnny, I'd let go of the controller and let Johnny kill Trevor a hundred times. At least we get to see Trevor burn to death at the end of the game. Feels better than sex.

The problem is they didn't bash V by comparing to IV in this situation. It's about how they IV characters handled in V. In no way it's a V bashing thread.

And no i think they didn't over praise IV in this thread. It did seemed weird after the ending of TLAD then suddenly Johnny K became like what we saw in V. No explanation whatsoever. I remember this is something a lot of people had been confused about the first time they played V.

I'm not sure what more satisfying seeing Dmitri get killed in the hands of Niko or Trevor being burned and explode after wards :dozing:

And I am just trying to stay on topic of how the IV characters were handled, which as I said already, was excellent.

Oh and I forgot to mention in my previous post about actually controlling Trevor while turning Johnny's meth-addled brain into oatmeal that this would be an amazing place to really utilize force-feedback to simlate actually feeling the goon's skull smash as you hit the button sequence!

Being that Los Santos is on the other side of the country it's understandable that some characters wouldn't just get up and leave for no reason. I didn't like Rocco in V I think it would have made more sense for a guy like him with close ties to Liberty City to go down to Vice City and open up a club there not in Los Santos. Sure he leaves at the end of TBOGT but IMO I thought that he would have at least stuck around in some city on the east coast.

1. Johnny and the Lost...yeah, we've all heard by now what was wrong with bringing them back. Suffice to say there story should've been left where it was at the end of the TLAD.

2. Karen's cameo was probably the only one I really liked. She always was a hypocritical, holier-than-thou bitch, and her one scene did a great job of showing what she'd become.

3. Packie I could've taken or left really. He served his purpose, but the story would've been the same without him. I also like to think he'd remember Niko fondly enough not to just dismiss him with "Eh, he's probably dead".

4. After the way her subplot in IV ended, Marnie's cameo was depressing as hell, and I mean that in a seriously bad way.

5. The ULP contact's cameo was bullsh*t in the third degree. No way he'd ever be dumb enough to actually go out in the field and wave a gun. Also (and this part is purely me fanboying, so take it with a grain of salt), I always saw him as someone who would be cool-headed and vaguely ethical enough not to condone the torture of innocent American citizens and getting involved in over-the-top rivalries with the FIB.

6. Rocco Pelosi's cameo was all right. Not as good as Karen's, but he got the death he deserved.

7. Brucie I also could've taken or left; probably the latter. He doesn't look good with a goatee.

Nah definitely burning Trevor alive and watching him roll across the ground as he screams in agony before taking his last breath and his miserable existence leaving the earth for good. My only criticism here is I wish it lasted longer so I could savour the moment.

Good riddance to trash.

I didn't like the way they turned Johnny into some crazy fool. Unnecessary.

Look at Claude Speed on GTA SA for example. He's the same badass he was on III.

Claude didn't even have a voice, so there's no way to tell whether or not he changed in any way. You can't get the full message from body language either.

Look at the mission trio get involved which are actually better than the stuff ULPC offered, at least, that's what clearly I get the impression between the jobs on offer from them.

I don't care about the missions they offer. That doesn't change how I feel about them as characters. I've already explained how I feel about Haines in the official thread about him, but regarding Norton I've always found him to be really boring and stale.

I thought the UL Paper Contact in GTA IV was hilarious with some of the wise cracks he made with Niko.

That doesn't make ULPC better in my view. Steve Haines, an FIB agent, for the first time in the series, became a central focus in the narrative as one of the two antagonist in the game. He is more fleshed out as a character than ULPC, which makes Haines, quite obviously, a better character in my view, for FIB agent, as subjective as that may be.

Contact: Come in, Niko.

Niko: Hi.

Contact: So... you fought in the war...

Niko: You know a lot.

Contact: Yes. You're looking for some people.

Niko: We're all looking for that special someone.

Contact: But most of us don't want to kill them when we find them.

Niko: Most murderers are committed by people you know. Most wives are killed by their husbands.

Contact: Yes. And my wife had better stop sleeping with that tennis coach, or... I'm joking.

Niko: I am sure your wife doesn't need to sleep around. Oh, I'm joking... I'm sure she does.

Contact: Funny. I'm divorced. My wife can sleep with whoever she wants.

Niko: Interesting...

Contact: I'm not divorced. I was never married. No details. I need you to go find someone for me. I'll be getting a picture through shortly. This is important.

Niko's interaction with him is hilarious. Showing Niko's sarcastic nature. But nothing beats his interactions with Vladdy Boy.
