Remember that this is a last gen game spruced up for current gen. It was built for the previous systems.

As said before, create a new island to start building the big map and release it as an expansion pack. This way they could extend the life of GTA O for years.

Key right here. What we don't know is how much time it will take to get it 100% up to current-gen standards...

But this fact also explains why R* made the statement about "big things" coming for GTA Online in the future.

Only time will tell what those "big things" are, and how they play out.

back when they started promoting gta online they said in their promo trailer

the game combines a consistent and continually expanding world

so why the map hasn't been expanded or the construction sites across town

havent developed is beyond my understanding.

after two years of online it's fair to say theres nothing expanding about the gta world

and some might even argue its another case of false advertising.

kinda like heists.......cause we all know how long it took them to deliver on that :D

It depend how you see ''continually expanding world''. If you see it as the map itself I understand your point. But you seem to fail to realise that a ''expanding world'' could also include the amount of vehicules, clothes, weapons that are in this world. In that case their statement was correct.

I imagined it took years to craft San Andreas HD, but if the engine is in place then I would have thought that if they were going to put out an expansion pack then it would have happened by now. They have had enough time.

I really want it, but in my heart I know that all we are going to get is adversary updates, a vfew new weapons and cars and some trinkets.

We are almost certainly not going to see any expansion or substantial update to gta v/o again.

I'd rather consider using the 3/4 of barren waste the map has...

But seriously, the map is huge, just half the places nobody would ever go... Driving to the same place you learn the map inside and out... How about a new set of heists working on Chiliad, Paleto Bay and such...?

First of all, I would say that the GTAV game world is a masterpiece of virtual world design.

However:

Nope. Rockstar won't make a new map just for online.. thats ridiculous. We won't get a new map until we get another sp story.

I figured that it will be 2021 before we get a new GTA. But as we know now, with the massive financial success of Online, Rockstar will never make another single player GTA, and so there will never be a new SP, and therefore there will never be a new GTA, and therefore there will never be as new map. Ever. Just more DLC for this map, trending downward in creativity and quality, until finally it becomes simply outright trolling by Rockstsar. They're almost there.

Running out of space? What about the few thousand unused buildings?

They turned a random warehouse into Benny's, if they need more space they will do the same with another building.

One would reasonably think that, with the supposed increased memory, speed and rendering capability of the new consoles, that Rockstar could add hundreds of seamless (i.e., no loading transition) interiors to the present map. They've added one new interior in 2.5 years. The pace does not look promising ...

are we running out of space? well kinda sorta. i mean there are lots of buildings that are unused but you have to think about what would fill them. are we running out of stuff to do? again, kinda sorta. if rockstar brings out new things to do and allows people to create those new things, we could see stuff happened similar to the LTS and the Snipers vs Stunters thing. i personally think that we need new places to go in order for the already kinda stale stuff to get fresh air (races, deathmatches, and missions)

(and post 100.....woohoo!)

There is a big ocean. Now we have boats and yachts R* can make missions at sea. Intercepting dope transports etc.

The map isn't small, its the biggest map in the GTA series. I suppose it has something to do with players speeding at 150mph and not really taking any notice of their surroundings. San Andreas is massive if you ask me.

Wait until you play it as long as I have and you will see. 1 city. Some hills a desert and a mountain. It really isn't all that big.

I was one of the first thousand players online, is my opinion valid? Or will you find some creative way to point out it's not because I'm not in agreement with you?

R* is way more likely to release a map expansion for online then for sp. Online makes them money sp doesn't. Why do you thing we have had online only updates and zero sp only updates.

The future of GTA is online not sp. The next major sp update will be GTA VI

I truly hope GTA VI isn't the traditional single player story. I would much rather a co-op experience that I can use my Online character for. Think Heists, but a whole "co-op/single player" campaign instead.

Since I started spending more time flying than running around on the ground, the map has started feeling rather smaller than it used to.

The map could be reduced in size as most players operate within a space south of the Vinewood sign .

It looks like with this self-quote you said more than enough. Don't be ridiculous. The GTA V map is the biggest. Not might be the biggest, like you wrote first time and quoted yourself second time.

Ah, I see what's happened here. I wrote "might" instead of "may". As in "I agree that the GTA V map is bigger, but..."

I think the map feels small and while there is a lot that can probably be done, I just don't see it happening. But who knows? I'm surprised heists were actually released

We might not have any SP dlc yet because the SP update is almost like making a new game, or is possibly being done by a different studio. Besides, you're overlooking one big thing. Rockstar can lock the Online map expansion behind the SP expansion. What would make them more money?

1.) Create a new Online only expansion and give it to everyone for free, while hoping to recuperate the costs via shark cash cards alone.

2.) Create a $20-40 Story Mode expansion set in a different city. Players that own the expansion get access to the new location online. The new vehicles, weapons, clothing, etc can only be purchased in the new city. The new city comes with an equal amount of content Los Santos had at launch. This way they can make a guaranteed $20-40 + potential shark cash cards sales.

Just a discussion that couldn't possibly get heated. But users here make anything possible... I just want to rise up some things about GTA online and the worrying truth about the future of it all.

We all know that the map in GTA 5 is big. But now it's been expanded upon we are running out of houses and unique content to add. More cars, bikes and clothing is good... but it gets stale. I know it's all free and honestly... I'm not complaining but it's sad to see the truth that there isn't a lot more that can be done without a map expansion.

We know Rockstar games don't just drop projects. They don't abandon many things (Agent aside) and it's unlikely that they really have scrapped the single player dlc. We can only hope this means a map expansion also otherwise the game is now going to fall downhill regardless of how much you love it.

Opinions?

There's tons of sh*t they can add without a map expansion. The key is interactivity and mini-games in the world around us. From the casino, to Nightclubs, Bars, and to things like playing Volleyball on Vespucci Beach.

We don't need a map expansion we need to be more emersed in what world we have around us.

Getting in a plane at LSIA airport and flying over the sea to another island would be a pivotal moment in the life of GTAO for me.

I don't care what's there - just a couple of streets, a bank and a railroad (like North Yankton), but with the knowledge that Rockstar are going in this direction and expanding the GTA online world over the long-term.

The game is huge, we just running out of things to explore, blocked interiors / lack interiors, we could have so much more to do if the added more stuff instead of just clothing and cars.

But that's all people asks for anymore. That won't ever change... We do need something better added, just don't see it happening anytime soon. They release something everyone does it for what a week or two and boom...back to normal or people go back to something else and shelf GTA until the next DLC. Myself won't be on it much at all once March 8th comes 2 yrs, 740 ranks later and I'm to the point that I myself will not be playing much anymore.

The map isn't small. It's the lack of accessible buildings that is the problem. For crying out loud, there are about two or three huge malls in Los Santos that can't be accessed. The churches are closed off. Many of the houses aren't accessible either.

Soooo... North Yankton dlc ?

yes we need north Yankton for a new map XD
Amen to that

Ludendorff is tiny. It will never happen. I'll pay you 1BTC if they ever add it to Online.

Dangerous and sad

There's a lot of room for new ideas and improvement, like adding new interiors, for f*cks sake!

Make Tequilala, Bahamas Mamas and other interiors acessible already!

Why, so you can bitch about what you can't do inside there? Nope. So that there's actually something to do at night time. Salty retro as per usual. Somethings never change.

Ludendorff could be far larger than we know. Remember, they only needed to build what would be seen during the two missions there. (Just like how the Liberty City in San Andreas was just a small sliver of the entire city.) If you ever explored the 2013 Ludendorff at night, at the end of the main street is a texture depicting city lights from the rest of Ludendorff, even though nothing exists past that point. The areas seen during the prologue could be completely different from the current version. Remember what you see when visiting via mods is a combination of 2004 Ludendorff, the parts seen in "Prologue," and 2013 Ludendorff, the parts seen in "Bury the Hatchet." For it to be added to Online they'd have to fully create the 2013 version of Ludendorff/North Yankton. The city of Ludendorff could very well have expanded into some of the farmlands seen in the "Prologue," as evident by the city scape texture at the end of the main road in "Bury the Hatchet."

to be honest, i dont get why people think we need a map extension to keep the game alive and relevant...

i played nothing but IV multiplayer for years on end and never got bored, you know IV have a very limited multiplayer, yet i had fun.

gtao is not only bigger than IV, but have more stuff to do, so dont get why people think the game "needs" a map extension.

theres a lot of untapped potential in the current map, a lot of stuff that can be done in the current map.

would i like a map extension? sure, why not.

does the game really needs a map extension, absolutely... NOT!

Truer things cannot be said. People forget how barebones GTA IV was compared to GTA V, but they still complain about how much GTA: O lacks. Which it doesn't; there are ridiculous amounts of things and places to see.
