IMO, the biggest issues are instability of existing content (read: fix the ever-increasing infestation of bugs), and greater interaction with existing surroundings/buildings and NPCs. There is massively untapped potential and plenty of room for deeper gameplay with what's already there or could be easily added/opened up.

That said, increased water-based and underground activity (and reasons/purpose to use them) would help; some large offshore islands and/or oil rigs could easily be done.

The map isn't small, its the biggest map in the GTA series. I suppose it has something to do with players speeding at 150mph and not really taking any notice of their surroundings. San Andreas is massive if you ask me.

Wait until you play it as long as I have and you will see. 1 city. Some hills a desert and a mountain. It really isn't all that big.
I'm a day 1 player mate.

Everyone is... nothing special. You probibily don't play it all that much

Nope. Rockstar won't make a new map just for online.. thats ridiculous. We won't get a new map until we get another sp story.

They could.. take pre-existing maps. Re- skin them for current gen.

We all know that the map in GTA 5 is big.

It's f*cking massive, but proceed...

But now it's been expanded upon we are running out of houses and unique content to add.

Maybe 5% of all the buildings in the game have interiors. There's plenty content to add. PLENTY. SO f*ckING PLENTY.

More cars, bikes and clothing is good... but it gets stale. I know it's all free and honestly...

Speak for yourself. As long as R* keep sending cars IGAF about to Benny's, releasing trashy lingerie, and adding weapon skins, I'll keep earning and spending money.

I'm not complaining but it's sad to see the truth that there isn't a lot more that can be done without a map expansion.

It's not a "sad truth", it's your small-minded opinion. You're being a drama queen... There's SO much more that can be done in this game. So much more. It's been evolving steadily since it came out. Just because you can't come up with anything else doesn't mean that the devs can't. A map expansion won't happen. The game is in it's third year and it's chugging along. I've never played a game for three years straight in my life.

Rest assured that R* is working on a new map. For GTA6. When GTA6's online mode goes online, GTAO will "expand" and include a new city. You'll need a new disc to get to that city, though. Just like you needed a new disc to get to Los Santos from Liberty City.

We know Rockstar games don't just drop projects. They don't abandon many things (Agent aside) and it's unlikely that they really have scrapped the single player dlc.

I couldn't care less. The only time I see SP is when I log out of GTAO before putting the PS4 into rest mode.

We can only hope this means a map expansion also otherwise the game is now going to fall downhill regardless of how much you love it.

Opinions?

Listen. GTAV/GTAO will not see a map expansion. R* spent years crafting the game world. It is what it is. If you want to travel elsewhere, fire up an older console and have at it. Liberty City in the late 00's? PS3. Los Santos circa the 90's? Vice City circa the 80's? Liberty City circa the early 00's? PS2. If you're tired of Los Santos as it is, and you're afraid of it "falling downhill", play a different game that takes place in a different world. Try Just Cause 3

No you just haven't played enough of the game to realise the truth. It's a shame all you do is defend the game. I play and enjoy the game more than you ever will but I at least know not to lie to myself about I being out of date.

What's with all this wang-waving?

You started out with a relatively valid point, and now you're just boasting about being first. Quit being a dick.

Rockstar need to give us new content in one form or another, whether that's by increasing things to do on the existing map, or adding new locations to fly to from LSIA.

But this is speculative and hasn't been thought out in the OP, so let's put this thread to bed...

R* will truly bring smile to our faces if they release the Liberty City DLC and allowed us to enter other interiors.

Just a discussion that couldn't possibly get heated. But users here make anything possible... I just want to rise up some things about GTA online and the worrying truth about the future of it all.

You are out of your mind. THere are thousands of properties they could open up for sale. There are pool tables that can't be used that could easily be added to the game. They could open the casino despite what some think about the legality of it. Hell, like they did with Benny's they could simply transform a building into something else. The possibilities are endless. And I am NOT saying there won't be a map expansion, I have no idea. But to suggest that without one there really isn't much Rock Star could do to enhance this game is pure silliness. Thank God their imaginations are infinitely better than yours.

I bet nothing happens map-wise until GTA 6 comes out with a serious upgrade to GTAO. A lot of people are saying Las Venturas expansion now, but they already have the casino and horse track, so there is that possible gambling expansion on the current map. Personally, I'm hoping for a return to Vice City with a nice swampy playground added in the next release.

I will start by saying that the map is huge. Probably the biggest map in a Open world game. Put any highway throught the map on any other Open world game and go down the highway in a super car you'll see the other side of the map a lot quicker then on GTA map.

But I have to agree that the map doesnt feel at all what it used to feel for me when the game came out. When it came out I was amazed at everything. First time I drove into raton canyon was awesome, the map felt huge. The more and more I play I realise how the map seems small. All the area are too small. Small desert, small swamp, small neighborhoods. I would love to see a new map.

I think for the people that are all the time in the city, they dont understand your point cause they are right, they could add so much interior thing in the city. Personaly I couldn't care less about interior stuff. I care more about offroading or just exploring out of the city, so thats the main reason I want to see a new map. I also like doing races and I'd like to see new roads to try out new races.

NearExpansion

OP - GTAV/O map is set in stone. More SP DLC - no way. More online DLC, yes possibly current gen only, maybe this might focus on the north half of the map. My thinking is R* are preparing a sequel to RDR next, and then GTA VI but at least 2 years into the future.

^^ R*/Take-Two will only release content in trickles. Milk it for what it's worth (Shark Card sales), then wait until general player interest starts noticeably waning, then release some more content.

Lather, rinse, repeat.

Death Rains From Above

Soooo... North Yankton dlc ?

Really don't see why people think a North Yankton expansion is going to happen. The map itself was clearly only designed for the SP Prologue and Revisit Missions. Beyond the roads that were driven on, the map was under-developed. Invisible walls and buildings that weren't actually there (drove through them or fell below the map).

I get the desire to explore such an environment in a GTA game, but it clearly isn't going to happen in V/Online. North Yankton was designed solely for 2 SP Missions, nothing else.

What you don't get is that this is filler as they develop something bigger (and no I don't know for sure but am banking on history). My guess is that it takes few resources to throw these together. So thinking about it that way, the questions is, better to add it or not add it? Those don't appeal to me, but it has no negative consequence whatsoever. The other mistake others make is concluding that no one wants these or plays these because YOU don't. Rock Star has info you don't have. Just sayin'

can anyone here give me one good f***ing reason why they wont just allow the interior locations to be opened for online ? - Lifeinvader office, Humane Labs, Bahama Mamas, Tequila-La, Hospital, police stations, fleeca banks. I could go on and on here... WHAT IS THE REASON we can't get in them ?

Don't tell me that people would go in there and troll, there are already interior locations we can acess such as shops, the pacific bank, etc... it makes NO SENSE to close these off.. the community could make better videos, freemode would be more exciting - hostile takeover could be put inside the buildings etc. - creators could make many new and exciting jobs utilising these interiors.

Also you can glitch into these interiors with certain places anyway, so they are already in the f***ing online game to start with. Starting to really make me mad, last gen has been left behind so they can't even say it's due to memory issues etc.

Just open up all the interiors FFS if they opened all of them at once it would breathe fresh life into the game immediately, so many new locations there would be to explore with friends / crew etc. F**K ROCKSTAR ! and they even gave us the police station and took it away again.

Frankly, because R* is notorious for wasting time on numerous trivial things irrelevant to game play that most players couldn't care less about. It shows up in bug reports, adding shovelware like the Adversary Modes, etc.

Once in a blue moon they DO fix or add something that matters to most people (e.g. adding a simple option to hide map icons); and they get a huge round of applause when they do.

But those times are few and far between.

I bet they are throwing heavy development into a RDR sequel right now. A GTAO type mode in the Wild West? Yes please. That will be the spiritual successor to GTA:O and I bet then they get started on a new GTA with a completely revamped online mode.

Yes. This is an outdoor urban warfare game. People will go inside, look around a few times, then most will never go back in (because there is nothing to do in there). So why spend countless hours writing this code, working out bugs, etc, for that? There is only so much memory and Rock Star probably wants to add content that has staying power. And of course each round of updates creates bugs, and eventually effects stability of the program as it gets much bigger, as we saw with LG.

Please provide link to your data to support "the majority of people dislike the filler material"

I think your are referencing a small percentage of squeakers on here which represents a small percentage of gamers. In short, you are talking out of your ass.

But if you have data, I'll review it.

Underwater exploration would be amazing. Have you seen the no water mod? There's so much empty space; just sunken treasure just waiting to be found! Also it would give the Kraken some use.

There's a lot of room for new ideas and improvement, like adding new interiors, for f*cks sake!

Make Tequilala, Bahamas Mamas and other interiors acessible already!

Why, so you can bitch about what you can't do inside there?

OK dude I am going to repeat this again since maybe you did not read it the first time around...

You can glitch into these interiors already in Online mode - THEY ARE ALREADY LOADED IN THE GAME.

How would it be countless hours writing code? The door to the police station has already been opened once and they locked it again. It is literally opening a door. That's all that needs to be done.

As for what you said about this being an outdoor urban warfare game - LOL That is such a weak argument. Nothing to add to that one.

"People will never go back in" - Like I said, it would help all sorts of people - creators, video makers, crews meets and so on and so on. If they are already in the game why can we not access them? Please don't reply again unless you have a credible response !
