What is JP and what does it do?

I know RP is Reputation Points and it helps you level up which also gives you access to better weapons, missions, yada, yada, yada. What does JP do? What's the purpose? I think it stands for Job Points?

Apparently, RP is Reputation Points.

Job Points had no point until the Executives update. Apparently if you don't have 1million to start VIP, 250JP is the next best thing.

JP is an accumulation of points that only matters if you're participating in a playlist. For instance, if you have a series of races over a championship of some sort, JP would be your total points awarded over the course of that championship. It's just for fun and has no bearing on the wider environment or your character's progress.

Job points You collect them by completing jobs of any kind and I believe they deminish the amount of bad sport points you have.

Job Points help offset Bad Sport points..

Don't do any Missions/Races/Heists for a while and just freeroam grief and blow up cars, watch how fast you get sent to Bad Sports lobby.

As long as you keep gaining JP it will offset the BS points your aquire..

Edit: Wow it must be X2 week for getting ninja'd

RP stands for Reputation Points, not Rockstar Points lol.

Legend has it that heists were originally going to require a certain threshold of Job Points to start, but that idea got scrapped, and now they're barely used, if at all.

I once convinced a kid in a meet (ages ago) that it was Japan Points. Meet ended, we did a few missions together with those that stuck around and he asks what JP means. I tell him it's Japan Points and the more points you get the bigger your plane explosions are when you kamikaze. Everyone burst into laughter so the kid knew something was up so he's like, "that's not true!" and someone else chirps up, "why don't you try it on the next mission?" Sure enough, the kid gets in a plane that we called it and we're like, "okay, you got 45 Japan Points right now so it should be quite a big boom." We start chanting the Pirates Of The Carribean theme song while he nose dives into the package you retrieve at Paleto Bay (diamonds, is it? We went to Grapeseed to get the plane so it was a plan brewing for a good few minutes). Sure enough, the kid blows everything up and we just lost it as his name popped up "----- Committed Suicide".

It can be Japan Points if you really want to believe, though.

They are used to determine the winner at the end of a playlist... I can't think of anything else JPs are used for

It stands for Jean-Pierre, which is a French name. It's often used as a nickname. I only know one of them. He's a lawyer.

No, I'm pretty sure the one I know is not an animation. But I guess he can always prove me wrong...

this is just as bad as the rockstar points guy. You can be penniless and have 250jp.

Jp doesn't equate to cash on hand.

Someone once told me that, if you have more JP than anyone else on the 'vote for next job screen', your vote will carry more weight (ie. if the votes are split 2 and 2, you will be doing the job that the person with the most JP voted for) ..I've never checked to see if that is correct or not though, so apologies if it's BS!

lol Love the irony in the GTA Wiki description:

"Job Points are the only accumulated award that do not unlock items, or make them purchasable. They are simply additional rewards that do not function in any way."
