Giantsgiants
Over the years, there have been quite a lot of GTA games released. We all have our favorites and our least favorites. We all have games that we see as "good" and others as "not so good". So, what makes a good GTA game to you? What things do you look for in a good GTA game? For me, I would say that the characters and story seem to have the most weight in my decisions. I personally think that GTA V's characters lacked depth and were forgettable, and the story didn't seem as engaging as some of the other GTA's. Hence, in my personal ranking, I rank GTA:SA and GTA IV above GTA V.

Osho
Great sandbox world with good number of things to enjoy. An excellent PC port with modding support. I can bear any story if its not about a hypocrite with a fake morality, boring, completely serious plot, padded out with uninteresting characters, filler, and repetitive missions. Tycek
Mostly story, characters and the atmosphere. Attention to the smallest details also helps. Importance of one of the elements may be lowered in good GTA game, but all the other elements have to live up for the lack of the first one. Older GTA games are good example as they have no story, but atmosphere was so great that nobody had actually pay attention that something is missing. Big Mike
Attention to detail. After beating the game I like having random things to do for fun. Examples in V: attaching 20 sticky bombs to the roof of a car and watching it fly, riding a train with 5 stars, or flying up to the roof of a skyscraper and shooting blimps and cars on the ground. TheOneLibertonian
What makes a good GTA game to me? Most importantly, it's going to be the story, and the characters. It's what made me got into GTA and the story they provide, so we can relive some of our favourite movies with the story GTA gives us. Second, it's going to be the attention to detail. It is also is what made GTA so special with the world having life like details, and of course the people acting like they should have been doing what they are doing in real life. And lastly, its the city. The trend of different open world's in recent years have been really popular. but none of those games has captured the same feel, and the same details that GTA have. What made GTA so special is that it strayed away from the norm of gaming, while at the same time captures the hearts of many gamers alike. KingofVenturas
The most important thing to me is the map and missions that utilize it fully, that's my main problem with San Andreas, it's my favorite game, but it has so many spaces like the big ear and Bayside that aren't used with the story at all. Bayside at least has a boat school, but a lot of areas don't even have hidden oysters/hidden packages. Also having protagonists that are somewhat likable, the older I get, the more I want to have a good reason to kill someone or that if it's in cold blood, they deserve it.
