Creating a Starter Save - How do I gain fat?

Vending machines give so little fat that it's not feasible to sit there for an hour buying food from them over and over to have enough fat to not lose muscle when I get hungry.

 

I obviously can't use any restaurants yet because I haven't unlocked them because it's a Starter Save.

 

What should I do?

While I didn't go for the entire 11.37% completion from side-missions, I did complete a fair few at the very start to give me an advantage. I got the bulk of the longer driving stints (like taxi missions and the paramedic strand) out of the way as quickly as possible. The outdoor gym on Verona Beach is accessible from the very beginning, so I used that to add muscle to burn instead of fat and eventually health. To prevent myself from hitting the daily cap too early on, I left before reaching maximum work-out level and found a vending machine. Adding a notch of fat counts as a skin change, and this allows you to continue working out.

 

Using the bicycle given to you at the very beginning is also good for building muscle, and I used this time to collect a good bulk of the tags around Los Santos. Again, to combat fat levels dropping I regularly ate snacks, though the stamina and muscle gain from constant cycling much outweighed the con of dipping fat. On top of this, you'll achieve a higher cycling skill giving you a better chance at completing the BMX challenge early on.

I'm already max muscle and cycling skill, so I can't multi-task :D. I'm working on my bike and weapon skills in preparation for the Vigilante missions, but first I want some fat so I don't lose any muscle, because it's annoying to keep going back to the Verona Beach gym. As I said, eating snacks from the vending machines gives so little fat that it's just tedious to restore fat by eating snacks.

 

 

Adding a notch of fat counts as a skin change, and this allows you to continue working out.

That's cool, I didn't know that :p.

Ah, full muscle already? Unfortunately, I don't know of any other ways to gain fat so early on so you may have to tolerate the tedious process of losing muscle whilst hungry.

You can open the fast food joints early by meeting either Katie, Michelle or Barbara and taking them on a date. The date will always be a food date due to the low progress level and will fail immediately due to the the high wanted level but fthe ast food joints will remain open and unmarked.

 

Be sure to avoid reaching the daily workout limit for the gym equipment as this will eventually lead to the infamous gym glitch that prevents CJ from ever working out.

This is very helpful, thanks! Does this lead to anything bad on the stats, e.g. "dates failed" or something?

I thought this only happens if you save in Madd Dogg's mansion?

I don't believe there is a negative stat regarding dates but I'm not 100%, it's been a while since I looked. The only negative impact is your progress with girlfriends decreasing.

 

As for the working out glitch, I generally err on the side of caution because the side effect can potentially shut down ever building muscle back up again other than from cycling or swimming. I wouldn't chance it.

I think I'll just work out until just before I max out for the day. Is there a specific amount of distance traveled on the exercise bikes, or amount of reps with the dumbbells or barbells before capping, or does it vary?

The limit is a 20% increase on either muscle or stamina stat, so while the reps do technically vary with the level the cap remains the same.

Correction, it's 13.37%. However, on Android and iOS, it's 14.97% since the 3 Gyms are open at the beginning of the game, unlike any Console or PC Versions.

 

If you do Big Smoke within the Starter Save, it can add .53% more. For instance in my Starter Save for SA on PS2, I have Big Smoke passed, with the EC Black Perennial in Mulholland and a Seasparrow on top of Mulholland Roof to make EP/FP later on with Gray Imports. By doing Big Smoke, I can reach 13.90% in total and so far I am 8.02%. I did EVERYTHING possible, except what's left in San Fierro and Las Venturas, as well as the Chiliad Challenges in The Country and all the remaining Collectibles other than the 100 Spray Tags since I did them after Big Smoke.

 

All I used was Vending Machines...

Right you are, couldn't remember if it was 11 or 13. I didn't reach 13.37% because I didn't get every tag that time round and I left a fair number of the collectables out. I got enough to help me out a little though.

You might be thinking of 11.95% in GTA IV with only having The Cousin's Bellic completed, but that is for another Topic, and it's much harder than the SA Starter Save :p

 

Right. That is how I feel. I did enough to help me out that I don't feel a need to do the FULL thing. It adds a lot of time to the Stats and one wrong move can f*ck it all up, causing you to reload and try it again. I'd imagine the Collectibles being a pain in the ass in the locked territory, but then again, I never tried it. I will eventually finish mine to 13.90%, though.

Just wanted to add to this Topic. Fat isn't really needed...

 

I am currently 12.30% out of 13.91% in the Starter Save (Includes passing Big Smoke and acquiring EC Black Perennial) and haven't used ANYTHING but Vending Machines. Furthermore, if you watch zmoonchild's Videos of doing things in locked territory that are time consuming like Oysters and Horseshoes, you will see that all he uses is Hotdog Stands or Nut Stands or something like that. It replenishes CJ's Health and also doesn't make him go hungry and he's done some things a couple hours on end without stopping. Fat isn't all that necessary in the end. Tbh, I don't think it's needed AT ALL, EXCEPT maybe for the Oysters. But before doing them, you could just use Vending Machines and buy like 60 Sprunks or something like that or just do the 18-25-ish/50 or so in Los Santos/Country and then work on the remaining Oysters found around the Map in locked territory.

 

I have yet to do the 50 Snapshots, 50 Horseshoes, or 50 Oysters, but every other task is done in which is required for 100% and can be done right after Big Smoke. In the coming days, I will probably finish out the 50 Snapshots followed by the 50 Horseshoes and last, I will do the Oysters as those are the worst. Even using a Jetpack as I usually do to get them after Green Goo is really boring to me. I never liked getting these, so doing it with a 4 star wanted level will probably be bloody annoying and time consuming...

Does not work on my PC. distance to any vehicle has no effect.

 

 

You don't get a wanted level when you are underwater. ...

You don't get a wanted level in restricted territory if you are underwater or swimming on the surface, unless you touch bottom,

There must be something wrong with my game (PC v2) then. I always get Wanted Stars when going for the Oysters under the Attack Transport, and in the Submarine Pen.

 

[That is when I do not use the "mission start" Exploit]
