Director Mode Discussion

(please do not showcase your videos)

 

This thread is for the discussion of Director Mode, whether it be advice, shortcomings, complaints, wishes, hints, tips, and all things in between.

 

 

 

As I am an avid user of Director Mode myself, there are many things that I find annoying about it. Whether its the limitations of the actors, the inability to direct NPC's, or the very bad utilisation of 'Scene Creator'. Director mode as of yet, is somewhat of a miss fire towards a very good opportunity.

Yet I cannot stop using it.

How has Director Mode lived up to your expectations?

Me personally, I'd like to see a lot improved.

The biggest thing that plagues me is the fact that you cannot direct NPC's, in the slightest. I mean, I know its a tough ask, but even just to be able to place NPC's in scene creator would be such a big help towards making better videos.

When I say "direct NPC's", I mean even just choosing specific NPC's. The amount of times I've been making a video, and accidentally scared off an NPC, or did something wrong, and go back to do it over, only to find the NPC that has reloaded in the same spot has a completely different attire. You can reload scene, or 'Clear Scene' in the options menu, and usually they reappear, but they reload with different clothes, which makes it hard to keep up continuity.

 

Even the choice of actors can be a little tedious. Say you lose an actor from your 'Recently Used Actors' list. You have to keep reloading attire over and over until you get the exact match you had earlier. Say the clothes match up, but he has a different hair style, or beard or whatever. I just think they need to make the Casting Trailer a bit more advanced. So instead of randomly generated layouts of actors, you should be able to choose each part of the body, the same as you would customising your clothes/hair throughout the game. I'm not asking for full customisation, just to be able to choose which one you want, thats available to that character. And then use those characters as NPC's in Scene Creator.

 

Scene Creator is another thing. Why haven't they given us the same functions in Scene Creator that they have in Online Creator? In Online Creator, you can place objects inside objects. You can put them up, down, sideways, and even almost inside out. There is a wide variety of objects available to you, and you can use them however you want.
In Scene Creator, you can place a f*cking bench 2 feet from you, but only on flat ground... What a load of crap.

I've never actually been able to figure out how to use Director Mode effectively, I think I'm missing something obvious but I've only ever tried for like 5 mins then given up

If I'm just looking for a 'zone out' jam, I'll play in director mode. Its like having cheats activated all the time. You can turn on invincibility, set time of day/weather, teleport to wherever you want, remove cops, peds, traffic, etc... Its more of an unrealistic gaming experience.

On which system are you using Editor?

 

I'm on PS4 and have just tinkered around! But I've read and seen that the console version is nothing like PC, which is understandable! I see these amazing videos being produced and then I remember I'm on console and really can't make them!

Im on PS4 too. I've seen SOME really good videos on youtube, but I've seen some really crap videos also. I just assumed that a lot of the videos with more in depth acting were using some kind of external animation programme. Same as how Gary's Mod works. If the PC version is different from the PS4 version, then thats another thing lame about it.

I don't get the restrictions. Why can't you use First Person view in Director Mode and why the hell are some characters unavailable?

 

The no wanted/traffic/pedestrians options are good, cheats that the story mode lacked.

It's a good idea in theory but since Rockstar can barely do anything right these days as usual they f*cked up the menu system majorly by having it be overly complicated and convoluted, with too many arbitrary restrictions on things. I do enjoy that we have a proper infinite health cheat though, all we had to do was wait 3 years for them to get around to it.

Only big issue I have with it is how you can't move the camera too far away from the player.

Director mode needs some more thought put into making it really great. Its cool on paper but right now not so much in practice. One can only hope it gets more powerful and useful options if it returns in future games.

Director mode needs to be updated for every DLC they release. There's so many possibilities that the director mode can do and many of our ideas are simply neglected.

The scene creator needs a top down view similar to creator mode. The features such as raise/lower prop are useless when it comes to the tps view because it's not fixed/updated.

Prop limitations are also another issue for the scene creator and creator mode. I just hope they plan to add more features like npcs, new dynamic props, and a few animations shown in the scene creator mod.

Thats something that annoys me too, but I understand the logic. I mean, The fact that we can record a 3D, modifiable scene is pretty cool, and they have to limit the amount of graphics they can store in those snippets of data recorded.

Its funny, I feel so strongly about Director Mode, and the things it lacks, that I actually emailed their 'Suggestions' email address, detailing everything they could be doing to make it better.

 

The last update we got for Director Mode was the Halloween update. All we got was a bunch of horror sounds, and a few more filters I think. You would think they could've at least given us some cool horror props in Scene Creator.

I just finished making a new video, painstakingly adding Filters to each scene one by one. I know you can copy Filter, and just apply it to each video, without having to adjust each one, but to save time, R* needs to make an 'Apply to All', or even a Master track for Filters. That way you can alter the Master, and get them all in one go, so the whole thing looks the same. And if you decide later on, you don't like that filter, you can adjust the master, instead of saying "Nah I can't be f*cked going back through them all again".

Have you not seen what Rockstar did to Johnny Klebitz? Trevor killed him off like if he suddenly became nothing. You can't even play as Johnny Klebitz in the Rockstar Editor.

 

Anyways, does anyone hear Michael's panting sounds when running as a female?

 

By the way, how hard is it to make all actors from a faction be ignored or even helped by said faction? Only the Highway Patrol officer with boots and a tie is somewhat ignored/helped by police yet the police helicopters still shoot him.

 

Also, why are many actors (including Johnny Klebitz) excluded and why can't actors have their respective hats/helmets?

Probably bc they don't have a correct model for that character or That it would look weird.

 

Like for example Johnny's in-game model doesn't have a non injured head model.

And lester for example, the walk animation woukd look weird without his cane.

Maude?

Doesn't have a in-game model.

 

Ask me about a character, and i can probably tell you the reason.

Clay and Terry  have fully working in-game models, I think Rockstar just forgot about them.
