Dear r* (regarding overall female clothing choices)

So, what did Support have to say in response to a bunch of examples of borked textures on their end (including things from PC and console)?

Not kidding: they told me (in as many words) "have you tried turning it off and on again?"

Dealing with R* Support is like

I just got a reply from one of the Support bods, not five hours after I posted the ticket - that's ...suspiciously quick. To borrow one from John Oliver, that's like ordering a takeaway, and it arrives five minutes later - there's just no way they had time to make that properly... :barf:

Once they anwsered me when it was like 4 AM in USA.

Atleast it was written, that the anwser addresser had 4 AM when he sent me an anwser.

Made outfits I wanted now nothing to do. Wished we had steamwork shop for clothing. Pretty much we can have any style if modders made it.

Latest development in the 'let's try reporting the ever-decreasing quality of clothing assets as a technical issue, and see if they do something about it' story - finally got a third reply, and they've deemed the ticket 'resolved'. And from what they've said in this most recent message, I guess it's just a case of 'now we wait'... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Basically, after getting a speedy response to the original ticket (which was just 'have you tried a hard reset of your console' - mate, my console gets a hard reset every time I turn it off, because I don't use standby mode... :rol:), I pointed out that no, it wasn't just my machine having problems - it's a game-wide issue, that's even visible in some of R*'s own promotional screenshots! That would suggest it's something happening on the dev team's end - either at the point where assets are uploaded into the game, or before that, when/how the textures are saved.

Second response came another speedy seven hours after my reply - and effectively said 'if it's a game-wide issue, Support can't do anything - we can only handle things on a machine-specific basis. Your best option is to send things to the generic feedback e-mail address' (which, as we all know, is an utter waste of time - I'd have better luck winning the lottery than anything sent there getting read... :facedesk:).

...yeah, obviously that's BS, because I can point out so many instances where game-wide technical issues were resolved via Support tickets and/or the Support forums (the whole 'cars spinning out when turning left' thing, the Heist mask bug from 2015, turbochargers not working properly when the game re-launched in 2014, etc.). So I politely pointed that out, and asked if they could either forward my ticket on to the relevant peeps, and/or suggest ways to get the issue noticed (Support forum thread, something else, I dunno).

Instead of a quick seven-hour turnaround, it's been two days, and now I've gotten the final reply (and ticket closed), saying "thanks for your ongoing patience as we researched the issue - we will be passing this on to our quality assurance team for investigation. No further action is required from you at this time - we've marked your ticket as "solved", and will contact you again if we need additional info. Apologies for any inconvenience."

Gotta say, if that's an empty fob-off, at least it's an empty fob-off that sounds like they're looking into it properly! ;) Again, now it's just 'time to play the waiting game', and see if anything comes of it - ideally, with the next update. I.e., either the next lot of new clothing will look half-decent, or heck, maybe they'll do a revision of a bunch of existing assets as well. We'll see - maybe it'll go nowhere, in which case I'll go sharpen the pitchfork again in a few months' time...

Well, with those Ill-Gotten Gains jackets, I at least get what they were going for - I've seen real-life jackets with those kinds of more 'strap' belts, rather than an actual 'belt' belt, if you see what I mean. Although it wouldn't hurt for them to do some new tops in a similar style, maybe with different trim, including a different style of belt - again, there's nothing stopping them doing more than one style for things, is there? :p

But at the very least, those tops didn't look like a bunch of amorphous garbage - it's just bewildering to me that R* could put out a game that came out on last-gen machines, holds up just as well as newer titles, even got a full 1080p remaster AND a 4K PC re-remaster (!), and then ...proceed to treat a whole bunch of the game's visuals like an afterthought. I've not made use of anything since the FAFF turtlenecks, either - largely because everything after FAFF just looks like such a rushed, low-effort mess. That's a whole year ago - to think that standards have been this bad for this long, yeesh... :dontgetit:

Fingers crossed that the QA bods are indeed looking into sorting out that kind of thing once and for all - and if the Kotaku piece had an impact as well, it'd be nice to think that we could see things look up by the end of the year (either September/October, or December at the latest). We'll get our first indicator in a few months from now, I guess...

Sad but true. I've seen people on here asking for lightsabers and mech suits without a shred of irony, and the worst part about it is I actually believe these types of shiny new toys will find their way into a game that used to have a particular tone and setting which worked wonderfully in terms of immersion and engagement.

I remember when there was absolutely no comparison between GTA and games like Saints Row and Just Cause. It's depressing because titles in the GTA series have always been amongst my favourite games for two decades and I could always count on them to offer an experience other games didn't. Now it seems that this franchise is being watered down for the Youtube Generation and as a result is becoming just like every other game out there.

I mean, I will always have and can still play San Andreas and GTAIV and enjoy them for what they are... but I'm fast losing any hope of future GTA games being as good as they were from this point onward.

BTW R*, feel free to totally prove me wrong

Anyway, sorry. Regarding clothing - I'm crazy busy at present but will try to get to those shooping requests in August.

Also, I spent money on new boots last week because of you guys. Grrr :p

What's ironic is that Saints Row apparently knew it couldn't keep competing with GTA's bigger budgets and ability to pull off realistic Hollywood-style presentation and uncanny scale replicas of actual American cities - which is why Volition instead decided to embrace the more whimsical, cartoony, pop-culture-referential aspects of the franchise. That turned out to be a smart move - it gave the series an identity beyond simply being 'GTA but less subtle', and ...ended up with some smartly self-aware storytelling, when all was said and done.

What's important is that Saints Row went '80s action movies and Saturday morning cartoon serials' by design, and reframed the third and fourth games around that - they didn't randomly go from 'grounded crime sim' to 'suddenly: wackiness!' well into the DLC releases, without so much as a lick of context. THAT'S what's so damned odd about the way GTAO is going - the game built on a Michael Mann-inspired thriller, kept things more-or-less rooted in a similar sense of verisimilitude for three years, and then, for no reason at all, threw in freakin' Knight Rider and rocket cars. :turn: And now Battlestar Galactica space bikes. Because ...there is no 'because' - the game's just a 'random content-delivery service' now. Don't sweat the details, just turn your brain off, ignore all context and logic, buy the new shiny, expensive toys (ideally with real money!), and ...it's all starting to feel a bit 'They Live', isn't it? :alien:

tumblr_n7ii0628Pe1slixf5o5_1280.png

(which is yet another irony: one of Saints Row IV's on-going movie references, which actually made sense in terms of the plot, was 'They Live', right down to the creepy subliminal-message billboards... ;))

Has anyone posted about the top knot hairstyle being reworked? Instead of lowering the hairline to fix the giant forehead they lazily added dark paint along the hairline. It barely looks good with dark colors and it's horrible with blonde

That's recent (with Gunrunning, AFAIK) - but it's not just the top knot. Seems like every hairstyle has the same issue, whereby they've screwed up, and made the 'paint' layer underneath characters' hairdos come further down their foreheads.

It's not so noticeable if you've got a thing that already comes forward (like the long wavy bob), or if you've got a lighter/more muted hair colour - but for higher hairlines and darker hair colours, it's really quite glaring. Noticed it a lot in lobbies when playing Overtime Rumble - everyone had the same thing going on...

(might be worth screencapping and sending to Support, like the clothing texture thing - I'll do some races or heists later, and get some examples...)

CrimsonSoulFire

Hello to all that read this.

I've pretty much stayed away from GTAForums since I've been playing GTA (for years), yet I felt compelled to create an account due to this very thread. Thank you to everyone for providing all the reading material that had me nodding my head and uttering "exactly!" every 2 minutes, and thank you to the OP.

I play a female character and I have found it so very frustrating to clothe her due not only to the restrictions, but also to the bulky shapes and weird cuts of female clothing, as well as the color differences in the various items. Red should be red, navy should be navy, black should be black. Do the people that create the clothes not own a color wheel? I digress.

I've sent in suggestions to R* numerous times on ways to improve the overall immersive experience for not just females but males as well, altho I have my doubts as to whether any of my suggestions have been noticed.

I used to make youtube videos called Crimson's Closet where I challenged myself to put together a nice looking outfit using what was available in the game. I think there are 18 episodes. Then my headset mic decided to stop working properly, so I haven't made any more episodes.

All the things that people have said in this thread are things I have said so many times, so I'll end this post now. Just know that I support the majority of what's been said, as far as what we want clothing-wise.

Thanks for reading!

I completely agree. We definitely need better clothing. Its been almost 4 years of GTA online. Its about time we get clothing that females today would wear. PM me Quinn. I would like to pick your brain on types of clothing that should be added.

These tweaks/additions would go a long way for me and I don't think any are too far-fetched or unrealistic:

  • Canvas hi-tops
  • Knee boots with leggings/jeggings combos (which are NOT loose-fitting biker boots)
  • Ability to wear tights/stockings with skirts
  • A decent shoulder-length bob hairstyle
  • Couple of long ponytail variants (high ponytail and longer ponytail)
  • Ability to save make-up combos (similar to Outfits in Interaction Menu)
  • Ability to remove logos from clothing (legitimately)
  • Ability to wear necklaces and bangles at the same time
  • A more uniform range of colors on leggings, jumpers, tshirts, hoodies and shirts etc.

Also, moar metallic off-shoulder tops. Sparkly

And yes, a basic catsuit would be fun as well for the Superheroines/Dominatrixes/Emma Peels among us :D

Exactly what @Coleco said above.

including:

  • Wearing hoodies under jackets (also bandanas without the damn hat and sunglasses)

    jr5i83b.png

  • This shirt in the clothing store

    BBQoes1.png

  • This haircut. They ruined the GR bob with the extra hair dangling

    rAPdvSV.jpg

  • Wearing stockings under skirts and jeans ("pants")
  • New dress variations with the possibility of skirt physics
  • New high-heel, knee-high boots that work with jeans
  • Actual bras, not busters or bikini tops
  • Oh and New buttoned, long-sleeve shirts that can work without suit jackets

    1RDXTMd.png

These are all I can think of right now. Edited by --V--

As for this guy, basically if you were to port all the clothes that NPC's wear, I wouldn't have a single issue. Practicality is my major issue.

I would love blouse shirts I guess . . . Even rolled up ones slightly. Not even just plain ones like yours V, pussybows, coloured collars and cuffs. Like the blouses we got for lowriders . . . which cant be worn over normal skirts and pants...ugh.

Upgraded skirts (Longer ones) The ones we have look extremely plastic and lazy. NPC's walk around with slits on theirs, etc. Alongside of this, instead of only straight have different "looks for them"

Belts wouldn't hurt.

Dresses wouldn't hurt either. The girl who works suburban looks really well put together.

I'd be down for another hipsters, vintage wear like bellbottoms, do we have miniskirts? I wouldnt mind more vintage clothes.

Allow those pendants to be worn with anything, secure them around the neck better.

. . . theres more but I think thats all I have thought up

I believe I brought it up when I mentioned R* changed the Twisted Bob hairstyle, it no longer has highlights.

After:

EDIT:

Nvm.. it was the Tight Bun hairstyle also affected, not the Top Knot.
