Dear r* (regarding overall female clothing choices)

Some cool stuff amongst the new clothing. Some items feel a little oversized but I came up with an (almost) entirely new outfit I'm happy with!

So I'm digging a lot of these new items, but why are they always so damn baggy and incompatible with the so many items that actually work together. Why can't I wear a denim jacket chain with the new tank tops or combat boots with the new jeans.

I love the clothes in this update, although I am slightly annoyed I'm unable to wear some of my favourite shirts with it. Only thing that seems to be compatible with the cut vests are tank tops and ordinary t-shirts.

 

Not to mention, the significant lack of pants with a decent belt. I managed to make a compromise, though. One that I'm quite happy with. I ended up with one denim and one leather outfit.

 

Speaking of leather, the jackets are lovely. I think I'd prefer a vest though. No point in having tattoos if I hide them.

 

I did have a go through of all the hairstyles, and.. well, I tried a few but I figured I'd be using a bandana regardless so I just kept the one I've always had. Easier that way.

 

So yeah, as I've asked before.. Where the belts and wallet chains at?

A nice leather jacket that's open. The dumb trend of only closed jackets aggravated me to noooo end. Now if I can get a nice scarf I'll be happy - I got to wear my black tactical boots with the stockings, threw on my aviators. Lookin' good.

Many vests but none is white.... good bye Heather style anyway the Clothes looks cool, I think it was a better job than the last times, the haircuts by other hand are still ugly as hell xd skinbyrd looks nice in front but... damn if only it would have been a new variation of a ponytail *sigh* so I guess that until R* make a dlc focused on night life or something to the The Ballad of Gay Tony, I'll not be satisfied with the clothes and hairstyles

I didn't even notice it when I purchased the nightblade, but you get a Western logo t-shirt in black.

I would've been okay with a decent looking designer shirt though.

On the flipside, some of the new t-shirt prints are just fantastic - the 'Practice Safe Sex - GFY' one, for example. Can't go wrong with new variations of those shirts - the prints are always crisp, and the t-shirt model isn't some oversized blurry mess...

Went through the other items, and ...not everything is a horrible smudge of blobby, supposedly 'denim' and 'leather' textures. The plain black leather pants are surprisingly tidy-looking, the black halter vest is rather nice (and I can already see a whole lot of outfit ideas from it!), the tights/shorts combos are ...not as nice as the fishnet V-day stockings, but okay from a distance ( ), the studded wristbands are cool, and even things like the tied plaid shirts hold up to inspection even when you zoom in.

Main problems* - yet again - are things like the big, formless, low-resolution parkas, and any of the bigger jackets in general, or anything attempting a 'realistic' ( ) worn leather/denim texture. I just don't get how someone looked at those assets in-game, especially compared to much nicer, crisper work on clothes that have been in the game, unchanged, since old-gen, and gave them the thumbs-up.


*well, aside from the fact that gimmick items like so much of this invariably come at the expense of much more versatile, broad-appeal fashion items. And again, the novelty goddamn hairstyles...

See, I get that technically, long hair like that is likely to cause all kinds of clipping issues, which is why you only ever see it on NPCs, since they don't have the full range of animations and clothing options to worry about in that regard.

 

...except there's two counterpoints to that:

 

1. Hairstyles like the various bobs, pigtails and braids already clip through collars of some tops, and heck, some of the baggier tops actually clip through themselves when characters move their arms. If clipping really is the big sticking point, then frankly, that ship's already sailed...

 

2. No excuse why R* can't just add more ponytails - particularly taller ones - as a way of adding smart, 'long' styles that give the appearance of our characters having hair longer than chin-length. Or even with the tail the same length as the current ponytail, but with different bangs and partings, to add variety that way - for example:

 

 

 

Neither of those would be any more of an issue to add than any other style - certainly not if R* just made sure they didn't extend any lower than the current hairdos. Literally just 'ponytail variations', no more complicated than the one that's been in the game since the game launched - but in doing so, R* would (as I say) at least be adding some kind of new 'long hair' option.

I like it, enough to make it my main bike for now. Btw, the limited clothing isn't really that special to be honest. But it goes with some coats/jackets. There's a plus .

Shame there's no 'non-novelty' haircuts - i'm with Shep when it comes to more ponytails because it's my hairstyle of choice. That said, I think the biker clothes have helped me get a new lease of life from the pigtails... and this update, while heavily themed, has given me more options than most of the others recently. I'm enjoying the new interiors and clothing - I got my Snapmatic on again tonight with my latest outfit:

What kinda bugs me about the tights is that some of them are a bit more blurry than others, which is a shame. Although the decision to go with a cutoff version of the old denim shorts was a good one, at least - it's a nice variation.

Other thing I've noticed: sure does look like the male character versions of the leather jackets are a better fit than the female character versions - almost like the ladies' ones are just repurposed, moderately-reshaped versions of the same models, as an easy way of making 'unisex' clothing options without, yanno, having to actually make bespoke versions to better fit both body types...

The big winner in that regard is the halter vest - unsurprising, since that's the one top that R* had to spend time making a unique item to fit female characters, and it shows in terms of the quality. Which brings this thing full-circle, really - if R* actually bothered to make things like modern dresses, playsuits and whatever for ladies, they'd be forced to make clothing items designed to work exclusively for the female character model, rather than something formless and/or oversized that can be stretched around to fit both body models.
