Why would rockstar bother adding clothes when more than half of the playerbase runs around in the average black tryhard outfit or choose the first premade outfit they see.

As soon as Rockstar notices something is being ignored they instantly drop it to reduce effort kek

Sadly, you're not wrong - @C-Rhee already posted some examples of "cute female tryhard outfits" (what in the world, even... :dontgetit:), and so yeah, if that's all people are wearing (because of the internal social signifiers of things like bulletproof helmets and rebreathers in in-game social circles), R*'s metrics are just going to show people defaulting to that stuff, and they'll add more of the same in kind.

Basically, there's trying to put real-world fashion into the game (which is what most folk in this thread want), and 'GTAO fashion', which is like the clothing equivalent of people using a Chradder as a rolling high score (because it shows you've unlocked everything: chrome, the highest-level rims, all the paint colours, limo tint windows, etc.).

Silly but I'm holding off until the launch of E&E before I officially say R* just doesn't give a damn.

Honestly, all R* needs to do with the re-release is to just clean up things like low-res prints/textures, sort out stuff like hairline texture glitches, and it'd be a big improvement, even without anything drastic like adding hair physics or what-have-you.

I don't expect something like a full rework of the character creator (some people are expecting almost an upgraded remake of the game, and I still just think it'll mean 4K/60fps on consoles, and not much else...), but just a bit of TLC for some of the jankier character assets would be a straightforward but really welcome improvement for the game, without needing to do anything new and flashy.

I'm close to unlocking the gray one too, It's basically the only new and interesting piece of clothing I've seen and It's f*cking ridiculous that the Black one is Level 600 to unlock. And the simple fact of not only having rank up to a ludicrous level only to have the Privilege of being able to buy it is absurd.

Welp, after getting some of the painfully mediocre new clothing, was going through my usual struggle of trying to make a new decent outfit with the already sh*tty restrictions and I found..

wBrOqos.png
Office Shirts can now be applied under almost any jacket of your choosing! (Black Office Unbuttoned under the new Leather Jacket.)
It's not much at all but Button Ups are kinda my vibe so I'm glad. After having discovered that, I had a bit of a gut feeling that I decided to try out and low and behold.. (I only discovered this like a couple of minutes ago, so forgive me for this awful photo.)
Mj7mw7v.jpg
Stockings are now compatible with any dress of your choosing! If I find anymore new combinations I'll make a follow-up if anyone cares at this point.

Glad to see that people are still using the thread xD

I kinda stopped playing because I got bored. I'm not sure what Expanded and Enhanced has instored... If it uses RDR2's engine, I'll come back.

The clothing situation seems....5/10 still with the above mentions being nice^^

I'm more of a RDR2O man myself. Like Commander posted, the clothing there seems to have taken a backseat. Role outfits suck...I prefer individual pieces.

I'm not sure if they're using a stupid metric to gague interest but y'know...It's disappointing to say the least. But at least in RDR2, I can forge decent outfits and be satisfied. Again, I await the next iteraiton of GTA 5 with interest....somewhat.

I hope all of you are doing well, readers, lurkers ,etc.  2016...I was 18 yeas old...wow. Quinn you have an everlasting legacy ;))

I actually hadn't seen the new clothes, I just wanted to complain first to look cool.

And you know what sucks? Some of the new shirts/hoodies aren't that bad. As far as T-shirts go, they look good but no f*cking way I'm gonna grind hundreds of ranks to get them. The new leather bombers are actually nice, finally something that doesn't look like it fits both models, but nooooooo, rank 500 of this sh*t that no one is going to play by next monday. I think I'll just XDev them

That's actually kinda cool. I mean, those restrictions are stupid but customization would improve tenfold if they removed many clothing restrictions

I spotted these last night - definitely want few of those, so there's my motivation to keep plugging away I guess

I've sent more feedback to R* asking about a few things on my wishlist. As this is a 'showy' style of update (like After Hours) I feel it's a good time to raise interest again in clubwear and outfits that many might consider a bit trashy. Trying to dress ratchet for a change (shut up) for the LS car meet and I'm struggling with the current wardrobe, even with my lack of taste

Basically I want some high-gloss vinyl leggings in game and that's my excuse :D

I would grind REP for everything latex or leather patent...😀, not for a sweetshirt with a new logo, never understood why peoples always wait for the new tee or sweet with this or this trademark. I get it its supposed to be street DLC but everything look tired and fatigue outfits already in game since close to 8yo or so.

The demand for latex / patent stuff seems to be more common than I'd have thought... Katy Perry and Kim Kardashian have a lot to answer for :D I'm not complaining of course, I'd be grinding for it too.

An easy addition would be the current miniskirt model paired with the current tank top for a basic bodycon dress but colour matched and with a high specular texture applied. No new geometry, just a texture swap. Just like all of those t-shirts in game are. I mean, I'd obviously like something a little more imaginative than tweaked existing assets, but even that would be a welcome addition.

And a nod to the dudes too: latex vests, trousers and chaps perhaps? The boys should get in on the action as well as the girls and GTAO is an 18+ game (at least in theory) so the content isn't inappropriate. Even better if alt and fetish fashions were added as an option for the club dress code as the current choices are a little too dull for my liking. And now everyone knows what kind of club I want to operate in downtown LS. Well, it seems Tony has no plans to open a Hercules equivalent so there's a gap in the market. We need German Techno, assurances of confidentiality for our visitors, and talc. LOTS of talc :D

Back on topic though, I suppose latex items would be among some of the only clothing that would feel realistically priced in this game - at least, if you shop at Atsuko Kudo or House of Harlot

Party Tank Tops are now compatible with jackets and stufff.

0_0.jpg

Not all that interesting because Party Tank Tops were previously only just singular tops with no ability to add much else to them. Even though they are literally just reskins of Loose Tank Tops which were already compatible with stuff but ok. 1

Alsooo, as we know, Knee High boots were enabled to be compatible with specific jeans in the Summer Special update... Or was it enabled in Cayo Perico? ehhh, I don't care enough to remember but- Knee Highs are compatible with Stockings now too so you can make some decent looking Dress ensembles.

0_0.jpg

I mean, Knee High boots could've been compatible with stockings this whole time and I never knew because I didn't wear stockings at all because of their previous lack of any sort've combinations with dresses and the like and thus I didn't wanna run around looking like every 13 year old with his female character half naked.

Anywhooo, that'll be all for now.

It hurts a bit that the earlier BIG DLC was able to add a lot of nice clothes. Now we get reskins and reskins and sometimes we get something cool like this new leather jacket but yeah.. Now I have 34 REP lvl and I do not know how much I should play and win to unlock rest what i like .I don't even know how much time it would take to gain lvl 200 doing and winning races and we all know how these races look sometimes and how frustrating they are . The fact blue and white is probably over 100 but you understand what I mean. You know what would be cool? Not 1000 levels, actually 100, 100 and that's it.  Honestly for me it's worse than the arena and I suspected they could take this system but not change it? Do they really think it's cool to spend hundreds of hours unlocking clothes? I have the impression that they are just laughing at players..

I mean, considering they have sometimes put in the odd half-decent thing like a dress or something in the past, and they weren't doing a bad job with womenswear in Red Dead Online until recently (when they just stopped adding varied and interesting clothing altogether - for male and female characters), that's demonstrably not true. I know it's trendy to blame everything on "political correctness" or "cancel culture" or "something something woke something something", but ...nah.

It's clearly just R* treating character customisation like the lowest possible priority - nothing more spoOoky or conspiratorial than that. And it becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy: R* adds crap/no character customisation options, players don't buy/use it, R* assumes it's because players aren't interested in buying/using any of that stuff, and so put even less effort in next time - lather, rinse, repeat. :turn:

Also, it's partly down to money/microtransactions: you can charge millions for cars that people can buy, sell, rebuy, buy multiple, etc., but clothing in GTAO/RDO is a one-time deal (because you can't sell clothes and rebuy them), for stuff that's never as expensive as properties or vehicles. So why bother putting any effort into stuff that isn't going to get you those Shark Card and gold bar sales? :sigh:

I don’t think it’s all about micro transactions since the Cayo Perico Heist is incredibly easy to make money now. They’ve even added more easy ways to make money in this DLC. I know a lot of people that don’t make micro transactions. Until we have that raw data, it’s really asinine to say everything‘s a micro transaction! Many people play the missions a.k.a. play the game to make money!

It would be asinine, yes - which is why I said it was "also partly down to microtransactions". :p

And yes, they've made it easier to make money - but the average vehicle costs a lot more these days. Same was true with previous updates: Heists (Pac Standard in particular) might have upped players' earning power, but again, things started getting more expensive, too.

Also, like with mobile games, the folks spending money in-game are a smaller, fixed percentage - so when a publisher leans harder into microtransactions or hikes up prices, it's not about getting more players to start spending (because they don't - if anything, the risk is pricing them out and putting them off), but instead about getting those folk who are fine with spending in-game to spend that bit more. Someone college-age who might have more gaming time, but also less money, is the sort who plays more, and for whom spending real money is more of an ask - meanwhile, someone middle-aged with a steady income, but not necessarily all that much regular gaming time, and who isn't a card-carrying 'gamer', might be less inclined to grind, and instead fine spending what is (to them) an insignificant amount of money to just buy things straight away.

Bottom line: if R* wasn't expecting some people to buy things with real money instead of earning it through play, they'd have gotten rid of Shark Cards, and wouldn't have bothered with microtransactions in RDO (which, considering RDO has Gold Bars, and nearly every update in RDO comes with an upfront gold purchase...). Similarly, when every car in this update is around $1-2 million, and something like the Club costs more than the Paragon R (lol), they're not just doing it because player have such great earning potential that we all now have more money than we know what to do with...

Lol - saw it before, but I was suspicious, and ...yup, that's all stuff made from Red Dead assets. :p I thought I recognised the tricorn hat as one Arthur can find in single-player, but that belted top is available in RDO, and the coat is tucked back on the right because that's where your gun is holstered (and so jackets can't hang over it).

[update] ...looked it up, and it's specifically "The Pittman" (the whole outfit: hat, neckerchief, shirt, coat, pants and boots),  from Outlaw Pass #2:

Spoiler

2ebaML0.png

0Lzs4b1.png

R0l6gsP.png

Amusingly, this has happened the other way around, too - Angelo Bronte's smoking jacket is the one from E&OC:

Angelo-Bronte-Cover.jpg

Which makes me wonder: did R* use that for RDR2 because it was a decent enough existing asset from GTAO? Or were they designing Bronte's outfits for RDR2 at some point before December 2015, and used a WIP asset from Red Dead as something to add to GTAO? We'll probably never know, but it'd be funny if that turned out to be one of the very first RDR2 'leaks', and no-one even knew...

Oh trust me, I tried so very hard to see if there was a way to use Skirts and Stockings together cause' I wanted that to be a reality so bad. sadKEK

On an interesting side note, I had a gander at a post on r/gtaoutfits about a day or two ago and the post in question from the looks of it had elements of the currently unreleased Frontier Outfit?

https://i.redd.it/jyc25un6gdc71.jpg

They had the outfit on a female character like above but, they seemed to have switched out the long coat with one of the new leather jackets, removed the hat and the red necktie thingy and switched out the trousers with stockings. The result was honestly quite lovely. The person who posted it was very vague as to how they ended up with this outfit but they were probably on PC from my guess. They seemingly have deleted their post because I can no longer find it. I'm dying to try out the aforementioned combination though, I hope the elements of the Frontier outfit really are interchangeable.

Okie dokie so from the looks of it, I'm a dumb dumb. According to this here video: Stockings an Dresses have been compatible since 2019? I had no idea.

I vividly remember trying to apply Stockings to my High Roller dress when I got it back at it's release in 2019 during that very same time frame but it didn't let me.

San Andreas

Perhaps my brain mistakenly told me that Dresses and Stockings weren't compatible and I've been living a lie this whole time? Or maybe stockings just weren't compatible with the High Roller dress in particular at the time and thus I assumed it was the same case for all of the other dresses, I've got no clue. Well, that's okay. Hopefully I let the few that didn't know (Like me) that Dresses and Stockings are compatible together.

The new leather bomber jacket is one of my favourite additions to the customization options (and once I unlock the ones I really want, then it'll be even better).

This is why:

1) Lots of colour variations

2) It is versatile (You can wear it open or closed) and works with lots of other existing clothing items

With those two seemingly basic criteria it's getting lots of use in my outfits, and has led to me buying other clothing that previously wasn't of interest to me, so not only is it nice to have but it also compliments other clothing well, allowing me to get more use out of my existing wardrobe (and prompting me to spend more in-game while exploring my new options).

Thank you, R* devs - this is how clothing should be! Instead of endless additions of BIGNESS and GUFFY texture swaps with obnoxious garish neon patterns, millions of slightly different camo variants or 'special' t-shirts that can't be worn with anything over them.

Now, if we had the 'rolled sleeves' option from RDR too, it'd be perfect... :D

I'm quite happy with the new bomber jackets. It's what I've been wanting for a while.  I think I'll skip the black one, but the brown one looks pretty good and rank 123 doesn't seem that hard to obtain. Just long-term goal.

A lot of the leather jackets available to us have remained horrendously misshapen and obviously ported from men which looks incredibly oversized and out of place.

These, on the other hand actually looks shapen to fit our figure.

I'm also glad you can actually open and close them, not enough clothing of ours have that. (Varsity jackets, I'm looking at you.)

I'm still disappointed we don't have regular-fitting jeans. In-game, they're either way too baggy/loose or too skinny.

As for the new bomber jackets - it's nice there're more options but bombers aren't my style, so this update didn't really do much for me personally. I was kind of expecting there to be new tattoos (since there's a tattoo shop in the car meet) but there aren't any from what I saw, oh well.

I second both of these posts. Most of the clothing is off limits for me personally because I dislike how bulky and poorly fitting a lot of it is. I've noticed that Low Crotch Shorts in the Sports Shorts section give your female character what I like to call: "Maaagical Canklesss" when you compare them to the way that some of the other pants fit.

I don't mind a small few of the baggy jeans but so many of them have the most random colors and patterns that go with absolutely nothing. Low Crotch jeans look completely Awful with how loose and saggy they are though and I honestly hate looking at them whenever I scroll through my wardrobe (Why the hell did I even buy them?). Closest thing we got to some decent looking jeans (If you can call them that.) are the Arena War Leather Stitch Pants. Specifically the Gray pair, which I think can look good in most applications.

I do really like the new Leather jackets but it's still bitter sweet that it's basically the only actually new clothing we received (Excluding the shoes but those honestly aren't worth mentioning.) and with how ridiculous the level requirements are for specific colors. I really hope R* goes back and rebalances Rep and maybe have the level unlocks cap at 500 or so, then the playerbase might actually feel inclined to actively play the game in order to unlock some of the new stuff they want instead of walking in circles AFK.

I'd quite like some form-fitting cycling shorts in the game as an alternative - remembering the trend for wearing those with baggy tshirts/tops in the mid 90s and now I'm feeling all nostalgic

so many of them have the most random colors and patterns that go with absolutely nothing.

That's what limits my choices too. Lots of clothing, but very few colours and patterns that work together. I get way more out of the plain colour tops/leggings/jeans in-game than anything else because I can pair them up with other things, which to be honest, is great that we can do that - I just think the game and team are capable of more.

Also stockings could be improved by not having heels attached, allowing us to wear whatever we want with them (Though I understand with the current system any shoes showing skin would 'cut off' the stockings at the ankles as they replace body parts rather than attach them). I hope a more flexible system is built for future games, though the way this community reacts to clothing - and the quality of (most) update items since 2015 - makes me worry that we've peaked already in terms of character customization.

Swimsuits, lots of swimsuits.

R* dropped the ball by not doing a string of Independence Day themed swimsuits.

TMZ.com did a posting on those.
