Dear r* (regarding overall female clothing choices)

My take on all this clothes situation is that they moved the few internals responsible for clothing assets to other projects. This is most likely the case since last time we received actual clothes for female characters was during biker update (and no catsuits don't count for that :p) and that's been released almost 1 year and half ago.

After that all we got was either lazy reskins or clothes that weren't even ported to female characters, *cough cough* gunrunning shorts and scuba gear.

At this point, I would take new colors on existing clothes.

More on that, there's actually the interview with that irman guy or whatever his name was that in short said clothes were "free" and by using that logic they aren't really spending resources for something they consider free, unlike vehicles that receive all their attention, since these are the ones that sell the cards.

Considering the problems like 'piss-poor texture resolution', 'fewer and fewer decent clothing items per update, aside from gimmicky stuff', 'clothing assets being designed for male characters then just haphazardly copied over to female characters', etc. started with Lowriders, and Lowriders was one of the first updates post-Freemode Events and the move away from last-gen consoles, I'd put it even more simply than that:

Ever since the game finished up the original content 'road map' (launch to Heists, with Ill-Gotten Gains as kind of the 'coda' to that era), it's probably fair to call that the end of anything Leslie Bingus had anything to do with, and the beginning of Imran Sarwar being fully in charge of GTAO.

And if there's anything I can glean from interviews with the guy, it's that he's much more about 'Fun!™' than immersion/realism than The Benz (hence any more 'immersive sim' aspects to the game being discarded in favour of flashy gimmicks, novelties and 'theme park ride' gameplay). That, and yeah, he definitely sees clothing and character customisation as very low on the priorities ladder - hence why 'eh, it's free, and we spend more time/effort on other stuff'.

That whole thing worries me - indeed, considering how proper GTA PvE has likewise taken a back seat over the last several years, and most vehicles that aren't either high-end luxury cars or military/weaponised things are either botched (hello, Jester Classic... :sui:) or ignored completely, I truly despair as to what that's going to mean for future GTA games and R* titles in general... :/

Its safe to say that R* obviously doesn't care for the female character dam base/audience. The game is 100% dead at this point. They're going to milk as much $ from people with all these pointless cars. They've already added more than 100+ vehicles in past updates. That seems to be their main focus.

If only they went back to the days like High Life/Business update where we got a couple cars but a lot of clothing. 2014 was definitely the Golden year for GTA. I noticed that the game went down hill fast after Heist came out with all the overpowered vehicles.

Sam, and Dan Houser only care about money. While the Benz cared more for the quality of the game instead the quantity of the game. I forgot one am very disappointed in R* for ignoring what the fans truly want. We don't want more Hot Wheel DLC, no more WWIII DLC, and definitely no more overpowered armored vehicles.

What we want and need us an update that is content rich from day one, no more drip feed content. We need clothing, tattoos, hairstyles, and most of all, ways to make our characters stand out from others. We need better dresses, stockings with skirts, any shows with stockings, we need more skirts, or just remove the limitations on what is compatible with different components.

With all the talk of catsuits and other such bodysuits, I can't help but think of more "work" style jumpsuits and coveralls. I know we've got the boiler suits from heists, but I'm thinking more form fitting (as it seems everybody is...). Of course, fashion jumpsuits wouldn't be unwelcome, either! Kinda retro in all, and I'd be lying if I wasn't a little inspired by the Fallout series' Vault suits, which themselves were inspired by classic retrofuturism.

This spoiler-in-a-spoiler contains a few example screenshots of Fallout's Vault suit, if you're unfamiliar.

Though they might blow your mind if you know what you're looking at...

Also, hey, doesn't this look a lot like that new race jumpsuit but worn backwards? Though even this is a bit more figure-flattering than what we've recently received.

RV_Ruecken.jpg

I love your idea of "fashion jumpsuits" aren't they called pantsuits? eh i have recently come into ownership of 2 of them, and i gotta say they are so goddamn comfortable and give a really good amount of movement, perfect for everything from driving to getting in gunfights after climbing a skyscraper

Hm. I always considered "pantsuits" to be more like formal, two-piece suits, more similar to classic male formal wear. Jumpsuits are typically one-piece, as a sort of coverall-but-not-quite-all. Fashion, like anything, suffers from language division among cultures, ahah.

Almost all of my real-life images I use on these forums are from the Wikimedia Commons, and so I am inherently limited by what is posted there, so my examples are not always perfect. But all I can do, I will!

I would like to see new eyebrows. There are only like 4 or 5 options which i like and am constantly using. The rest of them are straight up weird looking and hideous. Eyebrows make a huge difference on how your character end up looking, so more variety might be nice.

I'm still not too partial to the more flashy, overly-sexed outfits (though I won't judge if you like 'em!), but getting some flattering workwear is certainly something I can get behind. Those uniform-inspired dresses are also pretty cool, though a traditional, World War II-style dress uniform is still the ultimate for me. Some images in the spoiler below, but a few are awfully large, so be warned if you're on mobile or whatever.

That vault suit is a bit too anime proportions IMO. I mean... those are cartoonishly big. I would rather GTAO have sh*tty clothes than fetishistic "good" clothes.

I feel the same way about some things I see suggested/requested - I mean, sexy is fine if that's your thing, and there's room for all kinds of things. But like with constant military/weaponised stuff, or stuff so esoteric that it feels out-of-place, I still feel that 'normal, everyday clothes' need to come first before more ...fetish-y stuff. :/

Will they ever do these things soon?

I genuinely have no faith at this point. And is it fair to just come out with the elephant in the room, and call this ...basically kinda sexist?

As in, R* clearly thinks that things like normal, everyday customisation for female characters is not worth the effort - and thus by extension, catering to those female players who just want to have their characters look more like them is likewise not worth the effort.

Or put another way, Sarwar or whoever makes the specific calls about character stuff just buys into the 'it's mostly male players, using male characters' argument, and instead of thinking "sure, but that doesn't mean we should neglect either women IRL playing the game or female characters used by whatever players", they think "fine - those particular segments of the GTAO population simply don't matter". :turn:\

(but gotta make sure that Lada that everyone wants has an authentic dashcam, because priorities, right?)

R*'s response? Same recycled camo prints, and yet more clothing items designed around the male character model, then just copied over on to the female character model, regardless of fit, clipping (particularly on sleeves and whatno), etc.

Oh, and this particular A+ copy-paste job (pic from

Trimmed a bit of the skirt off this outfit so it's above the knees now. I tried to make this outfit for pants but uv mapping is a pain in the butt x.x

avrhzzK.jpg
JHK3vpw.jpg

EDIT: Tested a long skirt version at ankle length. It's okay.. I can understand why Rockstar won't make this one in GTAV for two reasons.

XbqIsiV.jpg

a. Clipping issues with the rigged model since you have pinpoint every vertex to fit the corresponding top outfit. Now imagine doing that to fit a majority of the models in-game (like over 250 tops?)
b. Physical appearance. The prop is functional with the rigged model but since there's no minor physics involved, it just doesn't do it any justice. You could somehow add some weight information to the rig model but I only have like a week's knowledge of zmodeler lol. Anyways, the movement It's like one of those rdr skirts with a boxy movement.

Yet another mod showcase that can benefit female characters.

This time a face texture: https://www.gta5-mods.com/player/retex-new-mp-female-head-texture-0-8-beta

Current version is 0.8 and only includes 2 variants, 2 moms. Even though it's not for Hannah, I went ahead and swapped it anyways.

The difference is clearly visible:

...I mean, not much else needs to be said but, god damn! I'm excited for future updates. I always found it interesting how people alone at their homes can make certain things with the game much better than its own creators.

Now, if only a mod to smooth out the body textures were to show up...

The big problem with mods? Well, two problems:

1. No use to the majority of players on consoles.

2. Doesn't drill it into R*'s collective skulls what players actually want - if anything it lets them off the hook, because 'eh, modders will do it for us'. And that's how/why they never learn (and never need to learn), and why future games will likewise fall short. At this rate, I really don't have high expectations for RDR2...

On a related note, I was looking at the character customisation options for Far Cry 5:

...and while the asset quality is a step up from the current state of GTAO clothing and whatnot (not that that's hard, considering R*'s approach to quality control... :barf:), I've noticed a lot of people making the same criticisms as with more recent GTAO content, specifically:

- not enough variety - outside of the occasional gimmicky costume, you just get a bunch of variations on plain stuff or utility stuff.

- by making everything unisex, that limits the clothing options - particularly for female characters (i.e., no dresses/tops exclusively for women, because there's no male equivalent).

(although at least Ubi bothered to make bespoke male/female versions of everything from scratch, rather than just making the assets for the male character model, then copy-pasting them on to the female character model with barely any alteration in shape/proportions... :rol:)

THAT, right there, is the big thing that'll likely force R* to pull their collective fingers out: unique women's clothing. Because if it's something R* can just do as a male version first, then a cheap tweak later, then you know darn well that's exactly how they'll do it, and we'll get more of the same cheap rubbish yet again (if they bother to add anything at all).

And once again, everyone make sure you bug R*'s feedback channels about this with requests and suggestions! Do it weekly, if necessary - because nothing else is likely to have any impact. If a major games news outlet can run a piece on it, and their only response is 'more cheaply-made camo s***', then we all need to up the ante, massively.

Great job! Any plans of making your work public?

Disregard that, should have read it more attentively. My bad, haha.

---

I disagree with the notion that Rockstar don't take ideas from mods, however. If anything, it has become sort of a joke of how mod developers are making the simple vehicles Rockstar should be making and the devs themselves are introducing content you'd expect from modders.

I'm pretty sure that the ideas of projects like Helisexuality were also brought to Rockstar's attention thanks to the work of mod developers.

And, in a bit of a joking manner, I think we PC players deserve this edge after all the stuff we go through at the hands of cheaters and Rockstar themselves of all people.

Instead of reskinning all that military gear and clothing, R* should reskin the christmas sweater. I like the model, they really should add some casual colorways.

Unfortunately not. Can't go online with mods without having the risk of being banned.

Btw it took me like 20/30 min to create the texture, so R* should be more than capable of doing it.
