For all of you that remember Playstation plus was down 2 weeks ago for about half a day:

Looks like we have all been given a one day membership extension. Just check your Playstation Plus e-mail for a "extra" 1 day voucher code.

 

Making a new thread about this because I know a lot of you might of not known about the outage, don't really check your e-mails, might have forgotten or considered it as spam.

You can also activate the code from a computer on the Playstation site if you know your login details. Would of been better if the extension was added automatically. Still I'm glad we got something.

This applies for all PSN related services, not just PS+. I got that email and an almost identical one for extending my PS Now subscription.

Yes - check your spam. For some reason mine had ended up in there, despite it never happening before. I think some wording in the email may have triggered a spam filter.

It's not automatic for the same reason companies offer 'mail in rebates'. They know the bulk of their customers are too lazy to cash in the voucher.

 

Ive seen articles with numbers like 60-80% of customers fail to send in or fill out the online rebate form.

 

In October 2014, almost 1 year since the release of the PS4, the news reported that Sony had 7.9 million PS+ subdcribers. It's been over a year since then so it would be safe to assume there's at least double that now. But for sake of argument, lets say 15 million. So, it may only be one day to you and I, but to Sony, it's a 15 million days combined.

 

15,000,000 ÷ 365 = 41,096 years worth of PS+ membership @ $50/year that's $2,054,800.00 out of pocket and if 75% of the subs dont cash in the voucher, that's a savings of $1.5 million dollars.

we got a game for free when Ps+ was offline for a week when they got ddos for the first time, so "trading" Ps+ time for online purchases woudnt be the first time

Uhh, no.

 

The DDOS attack in late 2014 meant the service was down for 3 days and everyone holding a valid account at that time had 3 days added to their subscription.

 

On 4th January 2016 the service was down for less than 24 hours, but they are adding a day to all valid subscriptions as per the OP.

 

There have been no global outages between 2014 and now, other than the incidents mentioned above.

 

 

 

For the whiners on the thread if you check the T&Cs you aren't actually entitled to any recompense if the service is down. The extra days we've had added for serious outages are purely goodwill from Sony.

 

As to 'what are you meant to do with an extra day' I'd suggest you're meant to play games, watch netflix or whatever you normally do on your console. After all, if there has been no outage its probably exactly what you would have done anyhow.

 

Other than minor inconvenience we've lost nothing due to the outage.

3 days was in the christmas of 2015, in 2014 was way more time, i cant remember the exact days but was more then a week and we got a free game download

 

Sony will be offering two free games from an unspecified list for Playstation 4, Playstation 3 or Playstation Vita titles to PlayStation Network members as part of its apology for the Playstation Network Outage over the Christmas Period.

In addition Playstation Plus members will receive a small credit to their Playstation Plus accounts plus free access to its premium service Music Unlimited for a month. Non PlayStation Plus members will receive a months trial to Playstation Plus and Music Unlimited.

A Sony representative stated “Once we restore the PlayStation Network, you will have the opportunity to claim your Welcome Back gifts. Please note that the Welcome Back programme is only available for those countries with access to PlayStation Store. All existing PlayStation Plus and Playstation Network members will be able to access the free games and services from the PlayStation Store”.

You'd take the sweets and walk off because that's what you paid for. This is exactly the same, unless you think the shop keeper should throw in some white lightning, just to apologise for something irrelevant and unimportant.

You are missing the point. If I went to a shop to buy a dozen eggs I'd expect them to be in good condition. Packed well and value for money. No one likes getting home from shopping to find a egg missing. Or worse. A cracked egg from a incompetent bag packer.
