AJONEUVON LUVATON HALTUUNOTTO is an 'Finnish Total Conversion Modification for GTA IV'. It aims to replace the whole Liberty City, all vehicles and weapons, missions / scripts, peds and propably voice acting with finnish ones.

 

Map

The map is going to take place in little finnish town, called 'Horonkylä' (which translates to 'Whore Village' and that's actually a real place name in Finland ;) In this 2000 people town, there are no traffic lights, trains and other 'big city stuff', just a lots of vegetation and sand roads beside of the asphalted town center.

 

Vehicles

Because of the EU's oldest motor vehicle fleet, the vehicles are gonna be mostly from the 80's and 90's era. I'll try to add much of possible Finland specific vehicles, like Pappa-Tunturi (60's moped), Erkkola (Three wheeled 60's Invalid Moped), Sisu XA-180 (APC), Sisu SL-210 (Truck) and a wooden boat with 'Terhi' -outboard motor for example. Of course there will be foreign cars, like Toyota Corolla DX '80, Toyota Hiace and Nissan Sunny that are commonly seen on finnish roads. I Personally like more older and ordinary vehicles, so you won't see any Nissan Skylines and others in this mod, there are already hundred versions of those sport cars for download. But of course i will include some faster cars and ones with capable of drifting. Drifting with good handling configuration is one of the best things to do in RAGE-engine imo and it fits perfectly to modification's theme because there is really not anything other to do in little finnish town like this beside of drinking booze and fighting each other.

 

Weapons

Weapons are going to be ones that are manifactured in Finland mostly. For example, there is a 'Kassara (Vesuri)' (a finnish wood-cutting hand tool), hockey stick and Suomi-konepistooli ("Submachine-gun Finland").

 

Missions / Scripts

For missions is too early to say anything before the map is complete or at least at beta stage, i have some ideas though. However, there is an script already that allows you to get drunk with finnish booze called Koskenkorva anytime by taking it off from pocket and taking gulp from it.

 

Peds

At this stage, the only modification for peds is Combat Jacket, black sweatpants and Jussi-paita for Niko Bellic. 'Karjala' cap (finnish beer brand) is almost ready (some specular problems) and Nokia rubber boots are coming along to finish the complete finnish "Amis"look (i don't know how to proper translate or explain word "Amis", it's a student in upper secondary education. They type of people are known to drive old "Amis-tuned" cars like Toyta Corolla DX 80's, drinking booze and taking barely legal aged girls for drive around the town. And drinking booze of course.) Finnish voice acting also planned.

 

Overview
In a nutshell this modification is kind of opposite to the Liberty City big city atmosphere with satirised and cliché imago of Finland.

I have been making this modification on my own for months now and on the whole, it's very alpha stage. I'm aware that there is very much of doing for one person and the time will show how far are i'm going to get with this project. Lots of time have gone to practicing how GTA IV stuff works and how i can export 3d-models, maps and animations to in-game, write scripts, make traffic and stuff. Luckily most of the process are pretty clear to me, but i still have a lot of a trial and error in future with ped zones, properly traffic and so on.

But yeah, that's pretty much all that i have to say at this point. Of course i wouldn't make this topic unless i have something to show, so there are some screenshots and downloadable betas for you :) I also hope that publishing this modification for audience gradually keeps me motivated continue and work with this project. And if you think you have anything to give / to do for this mod or you wanna be part of it one way or another, don't be hesitate to contact me :) I would really appreciate that and the truth is that i have use others modifications and work in this modification (like SA cars to convert and modify to finnish look for example, with permissions of course, so i have more time to do map and the Finland specific weapons and vehicles that can't be found anywhere). Like i have said, there's very much of doing for one person, but luckily i had liked it so far :)

You can already get drunk with Koskenkorva, so i think the major part of game is already Finnish'd ;) But yeah, it takes too long, bit by bit, but this project is very good practice for 3d-modelling and other content making for games.

 

EDIT: And there is it! A quick and dirty 'Get Drunk with Finnish Koskenkorva' modification! I would really like to know is there any way to load custom IDE and IMG files through the scripthook? Like in Criminal Russia, that you don't have to replace any files.

You're welcome :) Be sure to wear Pilottitakki (Combat Jacket) and beat up strangers while drunk to feel the finnish energy flowing through your veins! I accidentally left some useless lines of code in the source, but i updated the .zip file so you may want to download it again. But the functionaly is totally same though, so that really doesn't matter.

Wow, that map looks impressive. Even moreso in the sense that it's something new this time around. I'd be careful with using other people's mods unless you have their permission but that aside, it looks fine.

One thing I've noticed though, all the buildings look like something straight out of sketchup and that's a no-no in 2016. However, I have some European style buildings I made in a quality that's between San Andreas' and IV's that you're more than welcome to use if you like. And if time allows, I could probably do some custom stuff for it too.

Thanks :) Yeah, i thought it would be interesting idea to replace Liberty City with little town and see how that works. I have to restrict vehicle density to very low, because in 2000 people, there isn't driving a hundred of cars around :p Yes, i wanna make as much as possible myself, but because this requires lot of time and i'm doing it alone atm, i want to concentrate doing more Finland specific vehicles and stuff, that can't be found anywhere else (like three-wheeled invalid moped Erkkola for example). There is no point to spend time modelling some cars that can be seen in Finland, if i can find them from web and have permission to use them (Like Ladas, Saabs and so on). There is many great quality cars from 80's / 90's era made for San Andreas, i hope to get permissions from their makers to convert them to GTA IV and modify to Finland -look.

 

I'm using 3ds Max and because the map is going to be based on real town in Finland, the buildings are placeholders at this time (some are just cubes) so i can get them in place and correct dimension. Definitely i'm going to make them more detailed at the time, one by one :) Now i have been practicing and doing some vehicles and weapons. That's way too large project for one, so i'm doing little there and there, trying to keep the big picture in my mind.

 

And if one have a time and interesting to do custom stuff, that's like dream come true for me ^^ The buildings have the basic elements, like doors and windows on the place, but they needs to be extruded and make details to 3d instead of just a texture (like window frames, door knobs and so on).

 

PS. I like the map you did :) Is it going to be part of some modification or just for 3d-modelling experience?

 

EDIT: As a bonus, a WIP screenshot from 'Pasi' (APC). Did a little more details yesterday, going to replace SWAT-truck with that.

I was going to release it as it's own map set in Europe, but I thought "nah". Again, if you like I can give what's there to you if you think any of it would be useful to you.

Yeah, that would be nice :) At that town, that i'm making, there is just a couple of high-rises, the others are wooden houses, row houses and very typical and plain finnish little town buildings, beside church and stuff. I'll try to make them look as muchs as possible they look in real-life, it's based on my hometown :) But yeah, i surely would be a pleased to give a look for your models and see if there's something useful for me or can i use them as a basemodel for something else. Or at least an inspiration (i just enjoy watching those nice polygon flows ;) ). And then there's Ezekiel using Sketchup for the majority of his models. Doesn't look too bad, I'd say, even for 2016 :)

I use Sketchup, Zmodeler and 3ds Max.

 

It's not about what tools you use, but how you use them.

 

Thus, irrelevant remark.

 

Ajanhallinta, you seem to know what you're doing so I'm curious to see how this develops. Good luck guys!

I know if you monkey around with that new Brickade truck from GTA 5, it could look like some European looking semi truck.

It is actually very similar to trucks that i have planned and would be an easy shortcut to get it done. But i prefer making from scratch in first place or using an non-copyrighted content.

 

One of the trucks may be Sisu SM332. Like this, but in milk truck scheme:

Plus, you could keep that truck on a shortlist for other general European trucks. Box trucks, tankers, semis, etc. all with the same cab.

That cab idea is good, reduces work time and would look nice in-game. And yeah :D by non copyrighted content i meant models that aren't ripped from other commercial games. Luckily, there is a bunch of free 3d-models on net, that you can use as base for your owns.

Agreed, RAGE-engine could have some good looking maps because bump mapping etc and it isn't that hard to get map models from 3ds Max to in-game imo. Of course i can't really say anything about pedzones and traffic, got traffic work by copypasting pieces from original game except junctions and modifying pedzones got game crashed, but it was just a quick test and i probably get it when the time comes.
