Heavy sniper draw distance

If a person's in a car or helicopter, you'll be able to see them through the heavy sniper's scope even from across the map.

The same isn't true if that person is on foot instead, however. There is a certain distance where they won't appear/render on your screen. Bullets can still hit them, but you'll be shooting blindly then.

What I want to know is, how far is this distance? What's the furthest you can be from another player, and still be able to see them through the scope?

Sniping out helicopter pilots and people driving cars, while cool, doesn't really shed light on this.

What's the furthest you've been able to still see someone?

I don't have an exact answer but I have noticed if someone's not drawing in you can sometimes fire a bullet blindly and then they'll appear, presumably as the game figures out their positions/they should be appearing when your bullet flies by.

When I can't see them on the beach but they're taking accurate shots at me it drives me bonkers, so it varies according to.... something.

The draw distance was what it should be at current gen release. Sadly, it has since been nerfed.

In reality, I saw something about a rifle scope capable of seeing 1.8km. It would be nice to see such distance in GTA or even have the sniper scope returned to its' pre-nerf range.

I did get this earlier, from the Maze bank:

I know that tower's just over 1000ft tall, although I don't know if the draw distance can be longer if it's just high up, as opposed to far away.

Seems to be 2-3 city blocks away with the y axis playing a minimal role. That is unless you're way high in a jet or helicopter. I also think that you'll have increased draw distance if you remain static. Reason being is that ground targets pop just outside of the jet cannon range fairly consistently when dive bombing.

I did also manage from here to roughly where the marker is:

Pretty much this.

You're also not shooting blind. Use the gamertag to line the shot up, then wait for the crosshair to light up red.

Squeeze in the red, target be dead.

I miss the old days when I was able to shoot players @ Pier from top of the construction site building. I spent so much time sniping players from various rooftops and reactions were always hilarious, because they couldn't expect to be shot by me. Now the drawing distance is pretty much joke and many times sniping is just spray and pray.

There is no single draw distance. It seems to depend on the target's surroundings.

If you are on the Arcadius building you cannot see players (on foot) at the nearest entrance to LSC, but you can see players (on foot) on the grass verge between the parallel roads to the west, further away.

Yes draw distance and the heavy sniper as a whole have been nerfed.

This makes complete sense seeing how the Heavy Sniper is based off the M82, a Sniper that will split a deer in half from 600 yards away.

In GTA, players can survived two, three sometimes four body shots from a block away.

Here is a clip of me and partner on the boardwalk. My partner did something under the boardwalk and I turned my back and then turn around again and bam there was all these cops that instantly spawned.

At the six second mark the game said f*ck it I'll spawn cops right in front of you and it did!

Give me a f*cking break Rockstar!

The longest confirmed kill in real life was almost done at 2.5 km.

Actualy seeing things trough such annoptic in real life depends on a lot of things

Nothing lights up red on the heavy sniper until you get a hit.

Weve tested the range of all the guns during a deathmatch at the base. The heavy sniper can travel most of the bases length but not all of it. We were firing at a car with the other player up there watching.

Draw distance should definitely be "restored". It would also be great to have your character be able to lie down like a real sniper.

The more textures your scope has to load, the smaller the distance at which enemy players render.

Hence why my favourite places to have sniper battles are on mountains and countryside.

I was going to make a chapter of my helicopter guide about having a passenger snipe from the chopper (the sniper's draw distance might outrange the homing launcher lock on). I don't know 100% that it does though, and have no way of testing (I'm pretty much a lone wolf player), so I will probably just cancel this chapter. I don't want to spread false info, and the guide already has a lot of tips.

This is the reason you've been sniped whilst unable to see your opponent. You had less to render behind you than they had behind them, so they could see you, but from your perspective they were out of range.

You can test this by standing at the edge of the sea looking inland toward buildings, have a friend at where you think the render range limit is for the heavy sniper with his back to the buildings / other busy scene for textures & he'll see you first.

It seems to me that it wouldn't be very difficult to implement, but I'm not a programmer.

That may be the truth.

When friends joined me on ps4 i was really tempted to find out the heavy sniper range.

According to our test (took us 1 hour), the heavy sniper spots enemys up to 500-600 meter. We tested at sandy shores AND the inner city, same results. It was always between 500-600 meter.

Sure, your bulltes travel way further, but you cant spot the enemy.

I noticed sniping is worse on NG than LG. Heavy sniper was my most used gun. Now it's barely worth having ready in my wheel as it's worse all around than it was on last gen. One of the main things I was excited for when I bought X1 & GTA a couple weeks ago was better sniping and being able to snipe farther. Instead I'm sniping shorter and the gun isn't the same.

It's actually changed - post yachts..

Kind of distances I was getting shots from (imagine out at sea to at least the mask store or further) were impossible before, hell you couldn't even get a shot two blocks away before...

Still could do with some improvement, but a lot better than it was before...

I've noticed a big difference lately. Players and vehicles are not rendering as usual when zoomed.

The draw distance in this game is bullsh*t, I can't count how many times I couldn't see my target yet they could see me, rubbish...

In reality there is no limit on how far a High Powered Scope can see. The 1.8km is one of the longest kill shots in history. Depending on the scopes power 10* magnification 15* etc and terrain determine how far you can see.

As far as in game you can kill people out of the render distance as long as you are aiming directly at them. I have a shot from across the Alamo sea. Took a lot of time and setup but got it.

Recorded this earlier. Why does his character render for a second then disappear?

you were barely over the draw distance limit, notice how the cars were spawning as you aimed into the area.

if you had the space to move a steps forward he would have rendered.

Don't have an answer, BUT.

I reached my 5,000th heavy sniper kill earlier.
