Racing online - My problems

I have been playing the game for probably close to 2 months now and I just started getting into some of the races over the past 2 weeks. I play on PC with a xbox controller. I just having some questions about some things.

When you go into the activity menu, choose to do a race, then it shows in the lower right corner that it put you into a lobby.. is there a way to actually bring up that lobby to see the specifics of the race? Like number of laps, weather, car type, ect..?

similarly, is there a way to avoid custom race tracks? I swear those are the most annoying ever.. Last night I spent 2 hours trying to find a legit race. I kept getting put in races that had golf carts and tons of ramps in the middle of the ocean..

is there an easier way to find a lobby?

whats the deal with the countdown to green? a lot of times the timer starts at 2 or 1 and my timing gets thrown off.

and the turbo if you hit the gas right at green.. whats the point of it.. its rarely useful and 9/10 leads to a mass wreck. not to mention if catch up and slipstream are on, then its incredibly easy to catch up to anyone who used it..

then there is some races where its all the same car (make and model), but my speed seems so much slower. I understand the use of slipstreams, but often times when someone uses it off me then pass me and then they get too far ahead for me to jump on their slip. Then they just keep going further and further away. I just dont understand how they get keep up that speed for so long.

am i too slow at getting into their line? When I pass someone off of a slip, they pass me again within 10-15 secs.

In order;

1) Use "Quick Job" from the pause menu, not the phone, to join the lobby.

2) You can set the available jobs from the Settings menu IIRC, to exclude non-R* verified sh*te

3) See 1, or if you have been racing and get split up use "join game" from your recent players list

4) Lag

5) Fast beats slow

6) Probably kerb-bouncing, which accelerates cars faster than a smooth road because R*. Try hitting kerbs at the side of the road (not dirt patches or signs...)

7) Block them. You're in front, it's your line, don't let them past. Force them to go one side by closing the other down, then cock block them when they pull out.

awesome! thanks for all the info. I'll be sure to use 1-3 next time.

6. who would have thought.. I was trying to avoid that stuff lol

7. I try to avoid blocking if its early in the race since most times it leads me to being wrecked. Also I dont block if im 3rd or worse since I feel like its better to try using the other person to catch up to the leaders via slipstreams. I guess that hurts me more often then not seeing how sometimes the other person gets too far ahead.

are motorcycles faster when doing a wheelie?

in a few dirt tracks I saw many players doing wheelies throughout the race and still be competitive. I was pushing the directional pad forward to push the front wheel down more. I was thinking more traction is good right haha.. seemed to slow me down. I then did a race and was doing wheelies as often as possible and it looked like i was able to pull away from many people or catch people easier than staying on 2 wheels.

That actually leads me to another question.. is there a way to see what your speed actually is? I have only ever seen the speeds while doing the highest speed event in free roam.

is there also a way to see the height your at while in an aircraft or while parachuting?

For your first question, yes. Pushing forward does make you slightly faster, but not as fast as when doing a wheelie.

wheelies do make the motorcycle go faster, but not every bike can pull it off, the Akuma can't, but the Bati 801 and Hakuchou can, and the Sanchez aswell.

You are on PC, so you can see your speed on FPV by looking at the speedometer(P.S.: It reads the wheels speed so it can be unreliable)

Same applies to know your altitude while flying aircrafts, while parachuting I don't know, look down perhaps?

Yeah shake 'n' bake is useful when not first but if you're fighting purely for your current position then block away. You shouldn't get wrecked if you just get squarely in front of them, in fact they'll give you a little speed boost.

If you're trying to PIT people then I hope you get wrecked :D

If the aircraft has a HUD (digital display in front of you) then the left number is your airspeed and the right is your altitude (in hundreds of feet, so 80 = 8000).

If there's no HUD then yeah look for the altimeter in First Person.

ok so you can only see speed while in first person. i cant race like that lol oh well

yesterday i was actually able to get into 1st quickly and another guy was right up on me. We used each others slip, tossing lead changes back and forth for a good 2 minutes. It was awesome. unfortunately catch up was on and a group of 4 caught us, destroyed me and I ended up in 4th.

I found the best and most satisfying way to PIT someone is when they PIT themselves lol they get to close and try to cross in front of me, hit my nose and around they go. I get a good laugh. I do what I can to avoid any contact with others while passing. Hell.. if I get beside someone and it will take to long to pass, i will tap the break and get back into their line.

Pause Menu, jobs, rockstar created jobs, races... in dat order. There are some amazing circuits and point to points in there. Especially love Panic Stations with sports, sports classics, or muscle.

Also, if you've ever played THPS, the race creator in V is pretty awesome and in a similar vein. Yeah, theres a lot of crappy stunt track BS, but there ARE those of us who make much more traditional, realistic races!

If you start a race with catchup and slipstream on, you can usually back off from the first few corners and let everyone crash and because catchup and slipstream are on you will get up the the front no problem.
