X S
I thought this was interesting. I also wanted to know what a gold medal would be if it were 100%, and apparently it'd be worth $21,200. Apparently, they haven't used 100% gold medals since 1912. X S
That was a good game. It's one of the big criticisms I have for soccer and hockey, though. I'd hate to think my team lost such an important game on some petty penalty kicks. Regardless, it was exciting to watch. And I got to give it the Germans for being such good sports by going around and applauding the Brazilian crowd at the end. Anyway, I was watching The Big Lebowski, and then it hit me. We have sports like badminton, handball and air rifling, but we don't have bowling? Turns out they're considering bowling for the Tokyo Olympics. I'd love to watch that. Never understood why rhythmic gymnastics/sync swimming are so popular and part of the olympics. But to be fair you have to be one hell of a fit, flexible, skilled bird in order to be a rhythmic gymnast, unlike other sports like shooting/archery where you're just standing there on one spot or lying on the ground shooting at a target. No athleticism required whatsoever. And I totally agree about equestrian events. Can't believe it's still part of the olympics. As for bowling, I definitely don't see it as an olympic sport, plus it's extremely boring to watch. That's just my opinion though. But then again chess of all things is recognized by the IOC as a sport and attempts were made to include it at the 2020 games, so yeah.. GTA3Rockstar
121 medals is third most all time for the USA. Most since 1984 with 174. 1904 was 239 medals but can't really count that one because it was 526 USA athletes vs 62 TOTAL. lol https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1904_Summer_Olympics Ari Gold 1 Link to comment https://gtaforums.com/topic/838396-olympics-general-discussion/page/4/#findComment-1069030854 Share on other sites
Kiffster
And South Africa has never won more than 10 medals at the olympics haha. 10 medals again this year, but I would say that 1920 was still our most successful Olympics so far with 3 gold. I actually love that we're not winning as many medals as countries like the US. It just makes watching those rare moments where team SA win gold (or even silver and bronze) so much more exciting and special. Also just wanna add that almost every time our athletes win gold, they do so by smashing world records at the same time. They did so in swimming, rowing and athletics at the last few games. El Dildo
games over finally? good riddance. we'll check back in with Rio in a few months and find out much further they've been bankrupted by this nonsense. and we'll see all those new Olympic facilities and housing complexes sitting empty and abandoned and unused. physical testaments to the literal waste of money and resources which = the true Olympic legacy. Sir Michael
He's speaking the truth though. Those facilities are about to be looking like Chernobyl in the coming years. It happened with Athens, it wouldn't be surprising to see it happen with Rio; the World Cup venues from 2014 aren't being used for anything major IIRC. As far as Rio goes, it's back to the same 'ol sh*t they were dealing with before the Olympics, but now they have international attention if they didn't have it before. Hosting two international events in the past two years didn't help them economically. In the end, not many countries can hold the Olympics, let alone the World Cup, without seeing a major financial dent. The demand for new stadiums is just too extreme. El Dildo
El_D the true debby downer lol. hey why stop there while we're at it, let's get rid of all of the swimming events except for the relay and the freestyle. swimming is dumb, too. Michael Phelps is not the greatest Olympian. he just swims in the water in different kinds of goofy ways. there's too many medals for swimming. it should just be who can swim the fastest. there shouldn't be breast stroke or backstroke or any of the other nonsense. when you're trying to go as fast as possible, you wouldn't do some weird, convoluted, inefficient stroke; you'd just swim your ass off. Kiffster
So uh, they're seriously considering adding esports as an olympic event for 2024. Sorry but sitting on your ass, staring at a screen and mashing buttons is not a sport and requires absolutely no athleticism whatsoever. They're trying too hard to try and attract more viewers. Can't see them actually approving this though. Would be absolutely ridiculous and even worse than equestrian and ribbon twirling. What kind of athlete? --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- My interest into gymnastics has grown significantly. Kiffster
You need strength and skill for sure but It's just super boring to watch though. I skip over all gymnastic events during olympics. As for esports, they've totally ruled out all games with any sort of violence. So basically if they go ahead with this (which they shouldn't imo because it's stupid), then the only games allowed would probably be sports titles like fifa, nba etc. Boring games that usually don't draw a large audience.
