Olympics: General Discussion

Ryan Lochte and a few US swimmers were robbed in Rio. A few criminals posed as police officers and pulled them over in a taxi. Lochte said they put a gun to his head and took his wallet. Wow, not even an Olympic medalist is safe in Rio.

Tokyo is sure going to be a huge step up in terms of security in four years. You practically can't even cross the street in Japan without getting arrested.

Same thing happens if Los Angeles hosted the Olympics in 2024. Well, Tokyo is a safest city and it had no problem with security because you can see a lot of people walking at night before 12 AM.

Are you saying that people would be robbed in LA? Or that it would be safe like Tokyo. Because if it's the former, then you are very much wrong. GTAV is not a real life representation of Los Angeles. LA is a very safe city these days.

Wow, Allyson Felix lost the gold Women's 400m last night cuz some scrub decided to physically leap for the finish line. Why is that sh*t even legal? I would've felt cheated, if I was Felix.

Yea, some said she was leaning forward like they all do and lost her balance. Yea, okay.

I looked at the all time leader in medals, USA has more than 2, 3 and 4th place total, combined!

And the USSR have only competed in 9 olympiads, not since 1988 and are still in second. lol

Walsh Jennings/Ross lost yesterday. It was Kerri Walsh Jennings' first loss in her Olympic career. It sucks, but it would be a shame if a Brazillian team didn't make the gold medal match.

Not a fan of soccer, but it looks like Germany and Brazil are going to rematch in the gold medal final. That should be interesting, especially since it's in Rio.

how does that make her a scrub?

they were literally neck and neck.

it's not against the rules. so who wanted it more?

Miller clearly wanted it more. gold medal around her neck, no f/cks given, nothing illegal.

it's not against the rules

And neither is flopping in basketball, or stealing signs in baseball, but you don't see that being lauded.

Allyson Felix used her strength and legs to cross that finish line. Whereas, Miller had to dive a the full length of her body just to make up for the half-step she was behind. You don't dive unless you know you're behind, and that's why Felix didn't need to do so, not because "she didn't want it as much". It's where the torso crosses the finish line, and the computer renderings are evidence of that.

That's ok, though. Miller can go home knowing she won the gold spilling spaghetti all over the track. Great honor.

Did you get Butthurt when David Neville did it in '08 to steal Bronze from the runner from Bahamas?

I doubt it.

Consider this payback.

Consider this payback.

That's tu quoque. I know all about that race, and people seem to keep bringing it up as if somehow validates Miller's win. It doesn't. Both Neville and Miller are scrubs.

Miller can go home knowing she won the gold

yup.

that's pretty much all that matters.

anything else is just being a sore loser.

did she break any rules? no. did she cross the finish line first? damn skippy.

It shouldn't of been counted coming from a track runner, The torso should count in my opinion because some people just their head out also, which I find dumb.

I'm sad Walsh Jennings lost, been a weak couple of days for the US, and now the Rio Police are saying Lochte's story is inaccurate.

But there is a rule against flopping ? lol

Either way, people lunge forward at the end of the race and maybe she just lost her balance.

Just as long as we don't see people diving as a new thing anytime soon.

whatever, though. How about this Lochte story??? LOL

We all know this is a lie. :catloaf:

Either way, people lunge forward at the end of the race and maybe she just lost her balance.

When they lunge, they usually fall after crossing the finish line if they've lost their balance.

whatever, though. How about this Lochte story??? LOL

I think it's pretty clear by now, Lochte had sex with a transvestite and is trying to cover it up.

A warning for the first, $5k fine for the second, $10k for the third. They need to add a foul to it with a three throw and then the ball. That will stop them more

Eh, it's touchy but can't really knock her for it. If Felix lunged forward more, she would've had her torso cross first and obtain the gold (judging from the picture above)

Now apparently his story was fabricated, and a video shows he tore down a gas station's bathroom door and fighting a security guard.. lol ?

Really bad Olympics for Fenix, the relay team dropped the baton on a handoff. They're going to rerun tonight though, but have to beat China's 42.70 time to qualify for finals.

The U.S men's team killed their heat though. They'll be going to the finals.

E: Kerron Clement, a U.S sprinter, just got Gold in the 400 hurdles. It was pretty close at the end.

It feels fishy. The footage shows no wrong doing by the Americans, all we see is them being told to get out of the cab with their hands up.

The attendants at the gas station look like they are paying close attention to the swimmers, but is that because they did something wrong and are telling them to leave, or they recognize these people who have been on TV recently, or because they are in on this alleged robbery? Where are these security guards if that's all they were?

Why would the swimmers claim they were robbed? It only shined a spotlight on their supposed vandalism if it was a lie.

To me, with the evidence shown, I believe the swimmers. They have nothing to gain by telling people they were robbed. The Rio police or whoever is saying they're lying has their reputation on the line.

I could be wrong. Just my very uneducated opinion on the matter.

Isn't Lochte the only one still saying that they were robbed though? I haven't been following this story really, but from what I've read the other 3 swimmers (and the US olympic committee for that matter) already admitted that Lochte fabricated the whole story.

Anyway, anyone else now a handball fan? I've never really watched handball before, but now I catch it whenever I can. The women's QF match between Spain and France was great stuff.

Also, 9 medals for SA so far, including the first ever African medal in javelin.

Still only one gold, but I'm sure that'll change on Saturday with the uh.. women's.. 800m final. I feel like SA could've won another gold in the men's triathlon IF they ran for a couple more laps. Richard Murray was on fire. Brilliant run by him to finish in 4th place.

They could've said that to save face.

whatever, (some, or most)Brazilians are disgusting, one of the swimmers was given a choice to be let go if he gave $10,800 to not a school that gives low-income kids an education, but learn judo.

they also cheered when Sam Mikulak made a mistake on floor, and booed a french silver medalist. no sportsmanship.

Watching Serbia smash the Aussies in Basketball is my favorite moment thus far, nothing against Aussies, but I have a Serbian background.

Hopefully, the Serbs can give the yanks a good game in the final. :)
