If it's anything like the PS3 banwaves, they'll be back within the hour.

 

Honestly, the only way you can play this game competitively and cheat free is on the PS4/One. It's not a stab at PC, it's just the way it is. Just give up, you will never win.

 

I remember the big post about them 'Taking aim at GTA Online cheaters', and everyone thought that they would actually do something. Nothing changed.

The entire reason that old gen modders can get away with bans is because bans on consoles are hooked to either i) your account or ii) your console ID, both of which can be changed (the latter with some know-how), but not the actual game itself.

 

In PC your game key is tied to your account. There's not really any real escape aside from buying an extra copy and making a new account.

Friend of mine got banned because of modding (PC)

Buy's a modded account from the internet for 5 dollar, and is back in the game the next day, with even more mods.

He can do anything he wants...level himself up, spawn any vehicle/money, create 10million reward impromptu races, you name it.

 

Banning them does nothing.

Until they better detection than that nonsense, or hire someone else to do it (as most companies do), sh*t isn't going to get much better unless they suddenly recruit a bunch of senior engineers that actually know what they're doing.

They have a few things that are server-sided, which is good. And there are a couple of scripts running in the background to check for certain things as well.

 

But yeah. I think they were just too damn cheap to hire someone proper to do it for them. Proper anti-cheat, in fairness, is not easy to do, as a true hacker who wants to, will still find a way to circumvent the measures. But with a somewhat proper anti-cheat system (of which, there are plenty out there), things could have been much better than they are now. It's fairly rare that game companies these days stick to only in-house anti-cheat... but go figure, eh?

 

Ah well. They could just open Online up to modding like they did with GTA IV and separate modders from public lobbies. That in itself would result in a decrease in the number of idiots ruining legitimate sessions. It wouldn't stop it by any means, but there would still be a better thing to do in the grand scheme of things IMHO.

True; even as poorly as Punkbuster functioned in BF3, it caught and kicked at least some of the cheats in-game... I was always thankful for that!

 

I'm not sure how reliably VAC operates; I played hundreds of hours of TF2 in its early days, and don't remember being aware of anyone cheating. But that was TF2; not exactly a magnet for cheats anyway. lol
