MyNameJeff
It's no doubt that Free to Play (F2P) games are frowned upon in the game community, for good reason too. Game companies usually bring free games out to the community but with a catch, to unlock items and the 'full' game experience you must pay. This is where the term 'Pay to Play' (P2P) comes into 'play'. Mobile devices are home to many F2P games but most have in game transactions. The same goes for PC. Sometimes F2P games even sneak into PS4 and XB1. There are of course some good F2P games but games like Frozen Free Fall: Snowball Fight just give F2P a bad history. Some personal favorites of mine are Team Fortress 2, Warframe and Clicker Heroes (I don't play Clicker Heroes anymore as I struggle to find new content and things to do but I racked in 18+ hours of gameplay). These games never made me feel pressured to buy anything with real money, which was something I respected a lot. So, what are some of your favorite F2P games? What's your opinion on F2P? Should F2P stop?
9i OTD
There's a nice shooter on Steam called Heroes and Generals that I play sometimes. It isn't really F2P as it's actually in its beta stage but for the time being it's free. It's a WW2 shooter, think Battlefield but on a smaller scale with slower paced and more tactical gameplay, and is arguably more realistic though I tend not to and won't delve into that. Coin
I think that from a purely 'Free to Play' model perspective, since I don't play it anymore, League of Legends is one of the best in that regard. Almost everything that is purchased with the in-game currency* that you buy with money is strictly cosmetic; there's nothing that gives you any sort of edge in gameplay over users who don't put money in the system. *This is also one of the flaws of the system. Can't buy things directly (or didn't used to be able to anyway) and so you always end up with some of this currency left over and unable to do anything with. PoeticWhisper
Fallout Shelter. Easy to do good in, but as tempting as buying lunchboxes are, I don't feel the need to buy them.
Uncle Sikee Atric
Look on Steam for Brawlhalla. Super Smash Bros on an f2p model. Nothing is pay to win, you can only get visual skins and quicker char unlocks with money. Plus the simple graphics means a toaster can play it, although I can imagine a laptop keyboard being awful to use as a controller without one. I personally use an XBox 360 one. It is a hell of a lot of fun to play and has an active community. One of the best f2p games ever. Edited January 11, 2016 by Sikee Atric

Richard Power Colt
I hate the kind of F2P games where everything is slow as f*ck unless you pay real money for it. Even if you buy ingame currency with real money you'll eventually run out again and then you have to pay more if you don't want to get frustrated. It's like buying medicine to keep away the effects of an illness, it's not nice being f*cking ill to begin with(I know this isn't the best comparison). GTA Online is like that and it's not even a f*cking F2P game, I paid 60 bucks. f*ck this sh*t. Anyway TF2 is fun.
Presidential
When it's free to play, I stay away. Edit: Okay, fine. When it comes to GunZ 2, I have an exception. I never feel the need to have to buy anything with real money on there to keep enjoying it. Edited January 18, 2016 by Presidential

Fireman
There's real games that are F2P as well you know? Like SW: The Old Republic, though the limitations to free-to-play are quite harsh, unless you subscribe for one month and then just reference someone so you get a bunch of unlocks. B Dawg
Oh yes Fistful Of Frags. The most refreshing shooter I've ever played. The notoriety system is BLOODY GENIUS! ''Hmm, so I get extra points for using bad weapons and being a gentleman? Would you kindly hand me my Top Hat and Dual Derringers?'' - was my reaction Also, looking through my Steam Reviews, Double Action: Boogaloo is also a pretty nice game too. Completely free much like Fistful Of Frags, focusing on movie like action with diving, flipping and sliding across the floor while firing dual handguns and using slowmotion, featuring fan favorite actors as playable characters such as Nicholas Cage Edited January 18, 2016 by B Dawg
RedDagger
ehehehehe Though in general there's no reason to be against F2P games, there's nothing inherently bad about the business model. You can get annoyed at P2W games, sure, but just because it's not uncommon for a F2P game to be P2W doesn't mean anything against F2P games. Anyway, as for specific games I like: Fistful of Frags as others have said, but apart from that I haven't played many a huge amount. There's also browser games of course, I feckin' love tower defence like bloons or DTD
Agent Smiz
I've played a few F2P games over the years. Crossfire, Happy Wars and Warframe spring to mind. God, I've sunk so much time into Warframe...Anyway, I've probably spent about £5 total in F2P games until recently. Downloaded the Pokemon Picross game for 3DS which I think does the system right. Basically, to unlock anything, you need credits, of which you get a small amount for completing puzzles and logging in daily. It's a lot like those mobile puzzle games and also like them, you can buy more credits in the store. However, the game keeps total of how much you've spent and when it hits £30 iirc, it gives you infinite credits. So you'll never spend more than what the game would've been at retail. I quite like picross as it is so I'm happy to put £10 into it just so I don't have to wait for things to recharge.
Arachne
Free to Play: In my opinion,I don't think F2P is future,I don't think gaming deserves an sh*tty future where you're forced to pay 1 dollar everytime you walk, paying once to get the full game without any other micro transactions is better. RedDagger
That implies that all F2P games are P2W or paying to speed up timers, which they're not - people have mentioned a lot of good F2P games in this thread. Microtransactions aren't inherently bad, especially if they're of the kind that are purely cosmetic. Sure, there are a lot of P2W game out there but saying F2P is bad because of that doesn't really make sense. sebcreed
sebcreed
I'd like to give a shout out to a F2P game called WARFRAME which is by no means P2W. Its a very fast paced 3rd person view space shooter game, with a heavy focus on PvE. PvP is there but its almost an afterthought. It has quite a big learning curve and while its easy to pay real money to get better gear, everything is available to you if you just play the game. In fact, all the best gear called ''Prime'' gear cannot even be bought, it has to be earned by passing higher tiered levels (or by trading). Can't remember the exact figure but there are 12 or 15 or so planets to unlock. I personally feel that this is the MMOish game Destiny could, and should have been. I'm playing it on PS4 (its available on PC not sure about XB1).
luisniko
Team Fortress 2. The expansion item price are crazy though. Loadout. I think the credit and item price are quite reasonable.
Zyo
TF2 is still incredible fun and I pop into CS1.6 now and again. Also I think I read earlier in the topic a mention of Heroes and Generals. I discovered it a few days ago and its a pretty good WW2 FPS multiplayer, you wouldn't really know it was a free-to-play as it doesn't push it too much on you and at the low levels so far I have been finding it quite easy to be competetive. also its a great game with solid visuals and pretty engaging gameplay. Some of the skirmishes are quite intense. I would recommend trying it, even to the F2P sceptics. RedDagger
Team Fortress 2. The expansion item price are crazy though.TF2 doesn't have any expansions, though if you're referring to weapons you shouldn't get them from the Mann.co store, everything there is overpriced by a ridiculous amount 'cus everything's gotten cheaper in-game - weapons are worth less than a penny, so if you want all the gameplay-related items you only have to spend £1-£2. B Dawg
That or just literally play to get them, or trade the ones you already have (if you've spent any money on the game at all that is)
AboveAndBeyoncé
Tekken Revolution is a bad free to play with good aspects it's just that the online community on the game are very sh*tty people.... Some hack stats to win, others lag switch , most rely on stupid gimmicks.... And some are sore losers who can't take a loss and has to send you hatemail... But the game is pretty cool to play in my opinion but their online servers aren't the best
