GTAKid667
Where did you get the game from? And in which folder is it installed? (is it in Program Files, which is what Tomasak is asking above?) GTAKid667
Right Click the File you use to launch III and select 'Open File Location' What have you tried so far? Is there anything you have done recently that may have stopped it from working - Such as editing game files or installing modifications/trainers? It'd probably be worth reinstalling the game if you haven't already. GTAKid667
You should try deleting it anyway, it has been known to fix several problems people have with GTA III. And a new gta3.set will be created next time you launch the game, so you won't be damaging any files. GTAKid667
Did you try re-installing the game? Preferably to the same directory as VC if that has no issues. thehambone
Do any messages show up when you start the game (apart from the admin login message)? What happens when you log in with an admin account? --To post a screenshot, you can either use the Snipping Tool (Windows 7 or newer), or use the Print Screen key. To use the Snipping Tool:1) Click Start and begin typing "Snipping Tool" (without quotes). Click the Snipping Tool icon when it shows up.2) Click New, then drag your mouse across the area you want to screenshot.3) Save the photo. To use the Print Screen Key:1) Press the Print Screen key on your keyboard to capture a screenshot of the entire screen, or press Alt+Print Screen to capture a screenshot of just the active window. Some laptop keyboards don't have a Print Screen key. I this is the case, you can use the Snipping Tool method.2) Open up Paint (go to Start and begin typing "Paint") and paste the screenshot (click Paste or press Ctrl+V). 3) Crop the photo by clicking Crop. 4) Save the photo. To post image on GTAForums:1) Go to http://imgur.com and upload the image.2) Copy the BBCode found in the "Share This Image" section of the page and paste it in your post. thehambone
Thanks for the exact message. I think I may have found a solution. From what I can tell, the reason your game crashes is because of a security update. Apparently it blocks a component that is used in many old CD-based games; when you try to run the game with the CD, the error message that you described shows up. There are two ways to fix this issue: 1) If you are using the CD version of the game (which I expect you are), you can download the Steam version of the game instead. I think you can enter your CD key in Steam and not have to pay for the game again. 2) You can follow the steps described in this Microsoft Knowledge Base article to disable the update that causes the error. To make it easier for you, I've outlined the steps you need to take below: Option 2 1) Navigate to Start > All Programs > Accessories 2) Right-click on Command Prompt and select "Run as administrator" 3) Paste the following commands into the Command Prompt (to paste in the Command Prompt, simply right-click anywhere in the black window). Press the Enter key after pasting each command. sc config secdrv start= disabled sc stop secdrv reg add HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\secdrv /v Start /t REG_DWORD /d 4 /fThe first and third commands disable the "secdrv" service, the second command stops the "secdrv" service. Hope this helps! thehambone
Same command Prompt window, different commands. So, after pasting the "sc config secdrv start= disabled" command, press Enter. Then paste "sc stop secdrv" and press Enter, and so on.
