what is the point of gta online?

The game started me with like 200,000 I've spent a little over 100,000 and see no point in needing anymore money.

Is this a joke? What is the point of this thread? You obviously have only played the game for an hour or so. As of posting I have spent $78m. Yes; $78 million, and I still have a lot to buy.

OP is a Nihilist. He should fit in here and in GTA really well.

Just like Scottish Skate Punks, DUNT. Here's DUNT.

The point is to have as high K/D as possible.

Nah, GTAO is has no specific goal but having fun. It is what you make out of it. A few examples of goals for some players....buy everything in the game, unlock stuff, become really good as certain missions & heists, make new friends, collect rare cars, win deathmatches and races, modify cars in unusual ways, become skilled pilots, making traps, fighting in the streets, becoming the best crew, exploring the map, doing and finding glitches, doing all that the free roam map has to offer (stunt jumps, store robberies etc).

You set the goals!

What is the point of life?

There is no point in life, you are nothing but yet an other organism aware it exists, just like others bilions of other ones alive at the moment and the bilions of other ones that came before you and are now gone.

when you will physicaly be gone from this world you will become a memory, and when the ones having you as a memory you will die, you will be what you were before you lived.

absolutely nothing.

I personaly just like to do things i like and avoid things i don't :p

You have very good point OP, I believe it was originally supposed to be a slow progressive raise for each player from Streets to High-life and co-op crew based RPG style game play(based on early trailers) however the inept management and development from R* in allowing the early Billionaire days and hacks ruined the initial idea over all and so R* just went "f*ck it!, yoloswag everything up, crank the in-game prices up on everything and lets rake in some micro trans cash". What we are left with now is a matter of What you make of it?. Some people use it as an Arsehole simulator, some people stunt, some enjoy the rich environment and just messing about, some people enjoy playing with crew and friends, some love racing. For me its a great playground (despite terrible lag and connections/ Psp etc, on R* side) to enjoy and have fun with MP and Co-op game play with my crew friends, have a laugh.

Microtransactions

But to be serious, I like to view GTA Online as the first living, continuous GTA game. I started playing with III in '01 and every successive GTA all the way up to GTA V single-player in 2013 has followed the same path. Release > initial hype > beating the game > steady decline in player base/influence > wait til the new one comes out. Personally, I've been able to enjoy GTA games even when they are no longer new. But the majority of people move on to the latest and greatest within a year if not sooner.

If you enjoyed the adventures of Michael-Franklin-Trevor in mid-September 2013 beat the game that Fall and wanted more, tough sh*t. Come back in 4-5 years. You either replay it over and over or muck about in the sandbox environment. However long that enjoyment lasts.

Enter GTA Online. There's new missions, events, races, deathmatches, survival and captures, cars, clothes, weapons, properties, special purpose vehicles (Pegasus), themed DLCs, customization, and even varying weather effects (snow). Content is continuously being added to the game to keep Grand Theft Auto fresh and alive. A reason to keep playing for everyone, not just die hards.

That's before even addressing the multiplayer aspect of the game, a feature I think GTA was always working towards. A true open-world in every sense. Multiplayer existed to a limited degree in San Andreas and a to a bigger extent in IV, but it wasn't fully realized until V. It may have taken a year or two for the reality of GTA Online to match the promise of the original GTA Online trailer, but now that we're here it looks like GTA can keep going strong well into the future. Add in the ability of players to create their own missions, death matches, edit their own "movies", etc and it's almost self-sustaining.

There's no "beating the game" in GTA Online. So for some, it seems like what am I supposed to do? When does it end? Use your imagination. In previous GTAs, there's the sandbox was there as a means to do whatever you wanted in a game. Now you can do that with new content. It's a gift that keeps giving. Want to fly a fighter jet? You can do that. Want to pretend to be a VIP/mogul amassing wealth and a criminal organization, you can do that. Want to do PvP deathmatches, have at it. If you want to play GTA like its a map in a FPS, you can even do that too. Whether racing cars or playing it like its the Sims, the possibilities are endless. But it never gets stale.

I'm not saying Rockstar is perfect, nor am I saying the playerbase is. It has had as many frustrations as it does successes. But were still talking about it and still playing it along side the latest and greatest AAA titles two and a half years after the game first came out.

That's the point.

this is a serious question... besides doing random things. is there like a point? who is the winner ? the person with the most money? and even if the game is about money... there aren't enough things worth spending money on. The game started me with like 200,000 I've spent a little over 100,000 and see no point in needing anymore money.

what is there to do?

If you approach GTA Online like games like COD titles and others , you might get lost wondering whats the point, ..I felt similar to this when the game launched, but i quickly realized that GTA Online has given me the ability to play structured matches (Death Matches. Races, Team Death Matches Golf and others) and FreeRoam gave me the ability to create my own fun from grabbing a car and just exploring the map, or grabbing a plane and exploring the sky ....to playing a crazed killer ....and back then we didnt have free roam events

If your someone who has an imagination then freeroam has endless possibility's.(i am 53yrs old and my imagination still takes me places)..the Main Point is Have fun doing whatever you want

Granted 99.99% of the items you can purchase are not really needed (just a few good weapons) They are simply a way for the player to use points(cash) to unlock something else and some of them do make parts of the game easier highend Apts do unlock the ability for you to host heists but thats all they do as far as adding any game play ability, but you can still play them and not own a single piece of property by taking invites that pop up on your phone

To monopolise on the Online Multiplayer industry.

What there is to do is entirely dependent on what you want out of the game. Ultimately, the only real limitation (outside of game restrictions) is your imagination.

Hail Sithis

My cousin is like this too, he doesn't understand the game if there isn't a story line or specific goals/objectives. When I tell him I'm playing Minecraft, he asks me wtf people do in that game if there's no story or objectives. I just tell him have fun, be creative, survive, etc., and he just doesn't get it. When I tell him I'm playing GTA, he asks "haven't you already played through/finished that game?" and I'm like well yea, but I'm playing online. Then he asks me wtf I do online... well it's a sandbox game, you do whatever the f*ck you want to...

I think he just grew up playing single player/linear games and is too used to being limited; doesn't know what to do if there aren't any objectives. I can't say he doesn't play multiplayer games though, because he does play League of Legends (literally all day if he doesn't have work). That game is really straightforward, only goal is to win the game lol (sure there's mini objectives that build up to that but...). He's just really competitive and likes to win; even told me several times that if he's not winning, then he's not having fun...

so ya.. tldr if you can't figure it out then you're playing the wrong game

or you can try to find something you can have fun with in the game ^-^

I play GTAO to have fun and relax. Earlier I concentrated to level up and earn money, but atm I just concentrate to have fun in freeroam with friends and crew mates. After the latest update you can make good amount of money doing VIP missions and fr events so now I can have fun and earn decent money same time. There is so many ways to have fun in freeroam so all you need is some creativity and don't forget to be at least a bit social.

I think OP is just confused since a lot has changed in the few years the game has been out. The "ideal point" of the game is to become a successful rich high level criminal kingpin. Do criminal missions/heist/jobs etc to get more money and level up. If you want use that money to buy a lot of cars, guns, clothes, etc as you go along the journey.

Use your imagination, it's a sandbox game. Maybe play story mode first if you don't understand.
