This might be a dumb question or whatever, but does anyone know how to open up the car model files from ETS2? I really really wanna put some of them into SFM but I can't open the files.

I think you need the modding kit and tools that SCS has released....

 

Your best bet is to register on the SCS forums and ask there. They are a nice, friendly lot and there are plenty of tutorials as well to help you on your way.

Now I could just C&P the summary on tuckersmp but I'll see what comes up... Obviously, I'm relying on G Translate here, since the original source is in czech.

 

Summary...

 

- Arizona in progress and apparently they don't have much time to complete it

- They, once again, say that the consumer decides how far they go. If money isn't coming in, they won't expand the map.

- The translation seems to have gone a bit wonky for this, but they seem to hint that as long as money keeps rolling in, they'll do the rest of the US and expand into Canada and Mexico.

- They've got two focuses in terms of short term map expansion. Texas and, to "make Kenworth happy", Washington (Kenworth has a factory in Seattle).

 

This next paragraph has suffered from translator syndrome. It makes little sense, so I wouldn't take this word for word, this is what I'm getting from the paragraph.

The paragraph in question:

 

 

However, we are dealing with, as it nabalíkovat. Again, the more countries will be in the package, the longer we will wait for the package. As we mentioned before, each country's DLC and therefore independent. Over time, we need to sell a package with the countries of the east coast and the other with those in the west. But time is necessary happens that someone buys Florida, for example, and will not have a direct connection with California. And we have to deal with a teleport in terms of getting into the country, where I have no connection, while there was still a player. With that, we can still fight and solve.

 

- Each state is going to be its own independent DLC with bundles becoming available later (E.G. East coast pack).
- Teleportation will be used to get you from one state to another if there is no route because of missing DLC.
- ATS map scale is 1:38 (we knew that but might as well put it here)
- America will "have about 300 cities"
- They seem to hint that it will snow in Canada
- They want to implement dynamic snow
Then the translation sort of screws up again.
There's some mention of multiplayer but there's not really anything I can get from it. It says that full featured multiplayer "is still rather future". So... I guess they're hinting at a future multiplayer, but I haven't got a clue.
- SCS doesn't want an external studio to handle their engine.
- (Translation is a bit iffy) I think they want to do their own port if they do put the game out on console.
- Considering the use of smaller vehicles, but it's more of an idea. Sort of progressing with smaller transporting orders, then progressing through the various sizes; 3.5 tonnes, ect...
- Coaches are still a thing.

Yeah navigate your way to truckersmp.com there you can download an exe that will add both euro truck 2 mp and American truck simulator mp as well.

 

Bare in mind that with American truck simulator you need to clock up 2 hours of steam game time in order to play.

64 bit really shouldn't be something we need to mention, it should be a given, especially when you consider that the client is also used for ATS, which only has official support for 64 bit.

 

However, something that is worth mentioning is that the mod author only supports Windows. There's no OS X version, and there's no official Linux version, but some flavours of linux might be able to run the client.

Yeah 64 bit is a bit of a mute subject now. The subnautica devs did some research when they were thinking of swapping to 64 bit entirely and it turned out according to steam stats that only 1 percent of users were actually on systems that support 32 bit only.

This looks interesting. Some time ago I bought a Humble Bundle with some truck sims but they all looked like from 1995 so I thought they're all the same. Now looking at ETS2 on Youtube this look actually nice.

 

Some time ago I was looking for a realistic driving sim but only found one decent one from Russia, which however runs like sh*t on my PC, only has a small area to drive in and the Russian traffic rules are annoying (those super-long red lights). So I gave up on it and just drive in GT5 when the mood strikes.

 

But I might give this a shot. Is the driving realistic? Does it run well on a lowish spec PC? Are there mods for driving passenger cars? Is there any online DRM or other big brother crap? Lots of questions.

Your best source of info for everything is Steam, since you basically need it now to run both ETS2 and ATS. Plus Steam Workshop support is in final Public Beta testing, so all the mods for the game are now being embedded in the Workshop....

Aha. I was checking out the dev's website and they sell the game outside of Steam, so I thought they either have their own form of DRM or use none. I guess they just sell keys then. Well in that case I'm out.

You can buy Standalone copies of ETS2, but even SCS themselves have admitted everything is going Steam, both in terms of support and future features. The Standalone keys SCS supplies run both Standalone copies and activate a Steam edition too, that is how I got mine, I bought a standalone edition myself.

 

You can find a disc copy, but you'll have to look for it, plus that edition will have a Steam Key in the box as well, but they are rare and support isn't going much further than the next few patches.

 

ATS is Steam only, for everything.

Looks like some news slipped by, nothing amazingly huge. Just them saying that the updates still need some more time in beta and some Arizona screens. The post is from a few days ago anyway, so I can only assume 1.2 and 1.23 are going to be here within a week or so.

Release platforms/DRM
The game is released for Windows, Mac OSX and Linux. It will require Valve's Steam platform to install and activate. Whether you buy it directly there, or purchase an activation key from the official game website, find it in a box from a bricks-and-mortar store, or get it from any other digital channel, you will always be getting a Steam key.

I don't want to go more off topic but to answer for myself - it's more bloatware infestation, it's a control freak and it's DRM. It's not just Steam, I won't buy any PC game that requires any online activation, account, ties itself to a particular computer or such. I just checked and I have 421 games on Steam but I haven't installed it since I reinstalled my OS over a year ago.

Other than that it's just what you can pick from the article tbh. Nothing that mentions anything specific, but here's the sort of vibes I'm getting from it.

Explains itself really, they're starting to model more trucks from PACCAR. It also sounds like they plan to replicate the PACCAR Tech Center when they eventually get up to Washington. I believe that was hinted before as well.

Again, more modeling. Maybe a physics update later down the line?

 

Looking at the pics... Nothing much really... Mostly T680s. There's a T680 Advantage. Maybe just some planned model tweaks or something... But one picture caught my eye...

I don't know my American trucks very well... But I'm pretty sure this is a T880.

I do like the fact PACCAR let them record all the engines, all the way to red line and back! The two groups must have a good working relationship.

Traffic offenses can be disabled in game on ETS2

Route advisor popups can be disabled when the RA is hidden

Truck stability improvements during retarder usage

Smart cruise control can use the engine brake when no retarder is present (suggests it's for both games, but I'm pretty sure it's already a thing in ATS)

ATS: Fixed cruise control locked on by retarder

ATS: Multiple positions of engine brake

ATS: Keyboard steering improvements

ETS2: "Advanced shifting simulation"

ETS2: Real shifter layouts for "scania, Volvo, ZF)

 

Map (ATS only)

Speed limits polished

Speed limit signs enlarged

Stop signs removed from traffic light controlled crossroads.

Left turn filter lights added to some crossroads

Certified scales are now working... I presume it means the scales at service stations.

Traffic lights on interstates removed "where possible".

I like the game but the current states are not very interesting to me. I love the scenery but I'm just excited for east coast states, even if it'll take a proper year before we see them.

More news... This time it's for ETS 2.

The France DLC is making use of a new set of various road types (seems like there's a bit of a translation error there in the post or something.

They want to provide a more "lifelike look" and offer "more recognizable locations inspired by real world geography".

They've improved the system for horizontal road markings which "is now more flexible so that the road lines can be built in better agreement with the actual country-specific rules."

"There is still several solid months of work to put into the new map DLC before we can finally release it".

You bought the DLC correct? If so you may have to uninstall and reinstall for it to reconize
