Random frame rate

The specs for my PC are in my sig. As you can probably tell, the components are overkill for this game and back when I first downloaded GTA IV on Steam it actually worked flawlessly in 60 FPS 1080p maxed out. At least that's what I remember.

 

Nowadays the game runs at 52-53 FPS (even in the menus) regardless of the graphics settings (even on low) and sometimes it goes below that. It's all over the place. What the f*ck happened? I can run V with most of the settings maxed and it runs almost flawlessly at 60 FPS.

Because GTA IV VSYNC is limited for some retarded reason to 53FPS. Turn it off and force one from nvidia control center

Now it's fluctuating between 40-60. There's definitely something wrong. I don't remember seeing it perform so poorly.

On what patch you played last? Like before now? Because iirc they f*cked up shadow performance in last or 2 updates

I played a few months ago when I got my PC. I have the latest Steam version now presumably since it auto-updates.

 

It does seem to have something to do with shadows. However, even when I disable them altogether I still get the usual 40-60 FPS drops, only a little less severe. Whatever they did they just took a huge sh*t all over this game. It's f*cking laughable since this was such a horrible port to begin with. Graphically unimpressive even compared to the 360 version. The most noticeable improvement is the resolution.

I have I7 3770k and Nvidia GTX 970 and terrible FPS (20-35). Odl game, Yes, but still fun to play if I get descent FPS.

Make sure to close any unnecessary apps running in the background. You will get more FPS by doing that.

Only Steam in task bar when play because I purchase the game on Steam. Right click and take down everything else but still not help.
