Furry_Monkey
I guess there'll be plenty of people who don't know Hardware: Online Arena, but it was one of my favourite games for the PS2. It was a freebie that came with the network adaptor that you needed to play online. It's years since it came out, and I'd actually forgotten all about it until I checked to see what this month's free PS+ games are. I present to you, Hardware: Rivals https://www.playstation.com/en-gb/games/hardware-rivals-ps4/ It's basically a weaponised vehicle deathmatch game, but with arcadey driving and weapons ranging from "bang bang" all the way up to "oooooh"! I'm excited. I think it deserves a mention, and a nudge for anyone whose memory might be jogged by seeing this. Hope you all enjoy it Edited January 5, 2016 by Furry_Monkey

Furry_Monkey
I don't know the game. It looks well worth checking out though. I have such fond memories of the original. It looks like they've bumped up the online portion of it a hell of a lot. The original version, after doing a bit of reading, it turns out was the first PS2 online game. It didn't sell that well so they started giving it away with the network adaptor and it became very popular, having up to 200 people online at a time! Lol - times have changed. If this is a mixture of the original game's fun level and the up-to-date online gaming expectations then it should be AWESOME! Finally, a GTA killer. (I'm kidding)
bloatedsack
Odd, I had purchased a NIB PS2 network adapter and I don't recall this game at all. My network adapter became glued to THPS3 from bong residue, so who really knows.
hornedturtle
Played the beta and the controls are terrible. It's also impossible to fire ahead of the enemy due to the over reliance of auto aim.
Fireman
I'm a big fan of vehicular combat games. ....but not with guns! BURN IT!

It's also impossible to fire ahead of the enemy due to the over reliance of auto aim. That's not promising. I hope that's something that was rectified for the final version. The original was seriously good fun, but that sounds dreadful.

You don't need to fire ahead of your enemy at all. Primary weapons however have no auto aim or lock on whatsoever. It is a lot of fun, but if you're on a weak team then you can really, really feel it. I've only played it a bit so far but hope to do some more over the weekend. It's *very* good for a free game though. I'd recommend anyone who fancies a vehicle combat game on PS4 to give it a try. Agent Smiz
Remember playing the original years ago with the disc that came with my PS2. Never got it set up online so all I did was play against bots. It was alright. Hate to say it but my memories of that game are better than this one. It's by no means the worst free game I've ever played (That dubious honour belongs to Motocross Madness for the 360) but it's decidedly average. I could maybe forgive the controls being sluggish but the load/respawn times are dire. There's glimmers of fun but not enough for my liking. However, it is free, so I haven't lost out. If I'd paid money, I'd be annoyed but as it stands, it's meh.

During the beta it was all auto aim Wow - that would be damn annoying. So far I've found the lazer and railgun secondary weapons don't have any type of lock, but all the others do. Railgun kills are very satisfying as it's a 1 hit kill, as you'd expect.
