Is Grand Theft Auto V / Online the best game ever made?

Not by a long shot. Its Potential is far greater than its current state, which in many ways makes it the most frustratingly "potentially best game ever made".

If you're going to make this harsh of a claim, you should have to list what you think the best game ever made is.

 

First you have to list why it is a harsh claim?. Its a fact as I see it, not a harsh claim. I wouldn't list one single game as best ever made, there are many great games which are very different to each-other but all could be considered best game in their genre/type.

...is pretty harsh, given that GTA V is basically the best reviewed game of all time, with hundreds of thousands of people, if not millions who likely think of it as the best game ever made.

 

 

 

I think you're taking the easy way out. Everybody has a favorite game, the game that they think is the best ever. You feel it in your gut when the title comes to mind.

 

For a long time, a very long time, mine was The Legend of Zelda: A Link To The Past and Super Mario RPG (tie).

If I were to make the best game ever, today, and then someone came along a year later and made the exact same game but with a few added features and better looking graphics, would that then be considered the best game?

 

With that in mind I consider Vice City the best game ever made. (Or possibly Goldeneye on the N64, but with 3 friends).

Nope...maybe the best game of it year but further then that:

-i played tetris on gameboy much longer

-its the game with the worst online matchmaking ever.

-online many things are overpowered

-story mode is not that inovative

 

Edit: the concept of what gtao was intended to be, is the one with the most potential i personaly have ever seen for an online game though...it is however executed in the worst way posible without calling it truely unplayable

It comes down to a matter of personal preference no one game is going to be the best for everyone, but for me personally every game from the GTA series since vice city has been my favourite at the time. I just have never been able to properly get in to any other games.

It COULD have been, very few games have had the chance and failed to make it.

Since i own only 2 games, it should say alot about me and how i feel about GTA.

 

The two games i own are GTAV and FIFA16 (granted im a footballer, i always have the newest FIFA in the house) but ohter than that GTA is the only game i play everyday. At first i bought GTAV not knowing about the online feature, and i was like "Yeah people have said alot of good things about this game, im bored, why not buy it."

I only played the Singleplayer for an hour or so, and ever since i steped into Online mode i have never touched Singleplayer ever again.

I always liked online games when i used to own a PC, roleplaying games, where leveleing up and getting the best/coolest toys was the thing, and since i dont own a PC , for years now, this online game was like fist in the eye-socket, it fits me, and i get the enjoyment of playing with ohter people and doing my own thing.

 

I cant say its the best game ever made, cause i dont really play anything else. But its pretty damn good for me.

 

PS! I loved the Heroes of Might and Magic (II & III) on PC, two of my all time favorites.

GTA is certainly the best series ever... This current installment ... although the Story Mode was not as good as GTA IV... just because it would be hard to top the Bellics ... the online is quite well done. The major problem is the cheating / moding / hacking / whatever you want to call it. It prevents good freemode play (on PC anyway). They could have stopped this before it started. They didn't.

 

Other notable series of games:

 

Elder Scrolls

 

Thats really it. Most others have high points, but not every game tops the last one. Fallout series, for example, Fallout 4 is the first one i've liked. Call of Duty - Call of Duty 2 was great .. but the rest have really been mediocre at best unless your favorite pass time is online death match. And, if it is, then you really have to give the title to Quake 1 ... CoD can't hold a candle to Quake 1 online deathmatch.

 

oh .. and if we are going to bring oldschool pixelated adventures into it, then M.U.L.E. was the best game ever made. Do I want to play it now?? NO!

It can be, for some people. But opinions, everybody has their own. I for once prefer the Half-Life games, the Elder Scrolls, and even those old ps1 Crash Bandicoot games.

Yes, I've been playing GTAO since it came out but, it has been a sporadic playing every time a DLC comes out. On the other hand, I've been playing Skyrim since it came out almost non stop. The game does have a way bigger replay factor because is a rpg and it has a hole lotta mods, but it doesn't matter because we're comparing games, not genres.

Anyway, GTA V and GTA online are both really great games, I like that I can own a lot of cars, and play a bunch of different fun game modes, but in my opinion, it's not enough to be the best game ever made.

After thinking about it I will have to say Since its release it has been my Favorite game and as far as overall playing time GTA5-0 has been played by far more than other new titles on the PS3 COD Ghosts and Advanced Warfare got playtime but not as much as GTA

Now on the PS4 I play and own MGSTPP, COD BO3 and AW, Witcher3, NFS, Driveclub, The Last of US, Batman Arkain Knights...Gta5-0 still gets more play .....it seems to me that even tho i enjoyed all the games i have purchased they really are more of a "take a break game" and i keep coming back to GTA0

 

I will Definitely give the story mode the Top Spot as i have completed it on about 5 usernames I thought Witcher3 might topple GTA5 story mode at first but i know now that it was fun to play thru once game

 

GTA0 has gave me hours of fun, and when i think about what makes a game fun for me(just having a good time with friends) it is right there with my all time favorite a Game Called 'Split Second" that was released on the PS3 and Xbox about 6 yrs ago

 

GTA0 offers me a variety of ways to play or approach the game, I can sign in and play like a player who likes structured play with a path set before me by doing Missions, Jobs, Races Ect.

or i can sign on and try to get in Character with my Online Character and goof off trying to be a badass in freemode..If i want a relaxing setting i can hit the golf course

And the one thing i will give Rockstar TOP spot on is Keeping the DLC Content Free .Since day1 this game has cost me nothing more than the cost of the Game itself......If i want something in the update i can either play and save which suits me fine.......and for other players who dont like to take the slow approach they have sharkcards

 

I cant compare it Titles like RDR because i never played it them with the masses .....I did Try RDR just before jumping to the PS4 and enjoyed the story, But Online it was more or less a deserted place, but i could see where it would have been fun with a lobby of players

It's like a race horse with cerebral palsy. Doesn't perform as well as others but much more fun. Best online / MP experience. As far as the SP side goes - NO

It all comes down to personal opinion. For me, if it's a game that I constantly play and always come back to after I play other games it goes in my category of "Best Game Ever". No other game keeps me coming back like GTA V and GTA Online. Hell, I've even played through the Story Mode several times.

Without doubt GTAV/O is best of the series. Is it the best game ever made? I don't know. It's close but falls a little short. R* constant nerfing, tweaking of it's online world has turned a pleasant experience into a constant grind. With massive load times and annoying timeouts.

 

At this moment in time. This gets my vote for no1 game of all time.

This somehow equates to hatred of free speech? That's a fascinating perspective.

 

When somebody posts on a topic with no other intention than to derail the topic and promote dissent and disruption regarding the topic, that user should not be acknowledged because he is guilty of trolling.

 

This is an excellent topic and an excellent poll, one that provides the opportunity for forum members to provide their input on a subject that has seen much heated debate but may never be laid to rest. I am open to hearing other perspectives on what the best game ever made is, but I grow wary of feeble attempts to justify avoidance and pussyfoot around the question of whether or not a game is the best ever simply because they don't have the conviction to make a choice.

 

I am not open to hearing others go out of their way to enter F on a multiple choice test that only includes options A - E. When you write down your own answer next to a multiple choice question on a scan-tron exam, you will always fail. That is what happened here.

Both GTA V and GTA Online are incredible accomplishments on the whole, but I don't see either as the best ever. The scope, the detail and the innovations are all there and they deserve a lot of credit for that, but the notable flaws in my mind (weak storyline, rampant cheating online) keep this from being the greatest game ever made. I definitely consider it a top 10 game all time, but not quite the greatest.

People do not have to give an alternative "best game ever made" in order to say it's not GTA. You want them to - we get that - but that does not mean they have to. You've asked a question and it's getting answered. That's as much as you can hope for on a forum.
