Technically GTA V is. It's almost impossible to fault. Not my #1 personal favourite game of all time though, Red Dead holds that title.

The best game is whatever you think the best game is. It's pretty simple. It's not a vague question.

No. I like many games. Picking a favorite is impossible for me, but what I do know is that I like a lot of other games better than I like GTA V/Online.

I'd like to tell everyone that the question is if GTA 5/Online is the best game EVER made.

Seriously, what?!? No.

Red Dead Redemption was by far better than GTA, even story mode in my opinion, multiplayer was friendlier than GTA's online and, little detail, there were animals also in multiplayer.

Since it should be the best game ever made, let's also take other games from other genres: TES Morrowind, Mass Effect, Portal...let's not talk about historical games such as San Andreas because they'd destroy GTA 5. Every old game destroys it for the simple fact that it had innovation or a feature that would become the symbol of a game. Assassin's Creed had parkour, Batman Arkham Asylum the fighting system... What does GTA 5 have of new?

If we talk about action/freeroam games, it's a different story, but there are still better freeroams out there. So this question is useless unless you change it

Sadly speaking, GTAV failed to grab my heart more than older GTAs.

 

While GTAO is just huge NO. If the question is "The Biggest Chore and Imbalance", then yes, GTAO is.

 

Can't even call GTAO as GTA. GTAO is not 'that GTA game' in my dictionary.

 

EDIT: To answer the OP who posted after me, there's no such 'best game', as said by another poster. But there are other games that pleased me more, genuinely, and not needing to make the game into a straining night job everyday just to progress. One of them is Fallout 4.

As a title, I consider Grand Theft Auto V to include Grand Theft Auto Online. If I say that Grand Theft Auto V is the best game ever made, I mean Grand Theft Auto V/Online is.

I only gave multiple options (V vs. Online) as a preemptive strike (or defensive maneuver) against the people who won't accept that Grand Theft Auto Online is part of and does not exist without Grand Theft Auto V.



Also, to the people saying it GTA V/O isn't the best game ever, you could make things interesting by saying what game you think is.

Of course this can't be answered objectively. Just think to yourself what you think the best/your favorite game is. Don't try to confuse yourself.

The answer should come naturally and easily.

GTAO is an amazing technical achievement that contains fairly standard game design / gameplay. That said, having spent a lot of time on a few other games lately I think I've been a bit too hard on it. Also, credit where credit's due... I'm still playing it solidly after two years - that's got to count for something.

You're complicating the question for yourself. The best game ever made should be whatever comes to your mind as what you think the best game ever made is. There is no way to be truly objective about this. It is ultimately your opinion.

 

And sure, maybe you can't decide, but just say that if that's the case.

About GTA Online, no. Too much problems, bugs, server issues, cheating...

About GTA V Story Mode, no. It's a great game, but even if I really enjoyed it, it doesn't feel like it's one of the best game I ever played. It's the best GTA IMO tho.

What constitutes as 'best' game clearly differs between people and in regards to particular elements. In regards to story, IV trumps Vs. Best game in regards to aesthetic details? Hands down GTA V.

Yes it is.... Right now I would rather play Paradroid than GTA V.

 

Every now and again, I wish the later generations of gamers would have the chance to grow up with the games of my generation in the mid eighties. Or at least, current gen kids would have to start with consoles and computers like the Atari 2600 and C64, then cut their teeth and skills on the games that defined their parents.

 

Paradroid, Citadel, Robotron, games like that are the epitaph of the eighties, not Sonic and Super Mario, they carried gaming forwards into the nineties.

 

Anyway, back on subject.... GTA I was more groundbreaking and rememberable than V, heck III was the first of the 3D games, that will be recalled more than V in 30 years, V is a little footnote in gaming progression and not worthy of any titles for 'best game'.

First you have to list why it is a harsh claim?. Its a fact as I see it, not a harsh claim. I wouldn't list one single game as best ever made, there are many great games which are very different to each-other but all could be considered best game in their genre/type.
