Is a map expansion online realistic or not?

Hell yeah it's realistic, they've done the same thing between GTA SA and GTA IV with the 'Liberty City Stories' and Vice City Stories' games for PSP/PS2. Those were the same cities as their predecessors, only with slight differences because of the timeframes being different.

It is possible that modders made something similar like combining maps together, why not for online?

Like would I have to take a plane from the airport there and then it's seperate games/lobbies?

 

It obviously wouldn't be one map next to the other since that would be unrealistic.

 

Just curious as to how people think we would get to LC and back to Los Santos.

I might work like switching sessions i think? it make more sense and uses the airport, an addition of airport interior other than a marker would be nice, too.

go to airport

 

trigger cutscene of us boarding a plane.

 

cutscene of plane flying aka loading screen

 

once it has connected us to the new session, simply show the plane landing and us unboarding the plane.

Do I want it? Yes. Do I think it's realistic? Not really. Besides I am kind of tired of LC. I want to see Vice City, San Fierro or Las Venturas in HD.
