Is a map expansion online realistic or not?

I know a lot of people who say the map is currently too big as it is.

They must be oversensitive when people keep saying bigger is better.

Personally I hope GTA VI is Las Venturas and San Fierro, so they could be added to the current map of San Andreas to create sandbox perfection.

I'd rather Vice City 2.

i'd rather have a whole new place.

this franchise is almost 20years old and we have only been to the same few places, they just keep refrying the locations, its time for a new city.

I hope it doesn't take that long either, but who knows. Each new GTA game seems to take longer to be released compared to the previous title. There was a 5 year gap between GTA IV and GTA V. I sincerely hope R* breaks that trend with GTA VI, but...

gta.jpg

What I've thought Rockstar could do in the past is create a few games based on V with out changing the base game too much, while adding more to it. That we could have had a possible release schedule of:

2013 GTA V

2014 GTA V (PS4/One) ~ content updates to Online

2015 GTA V (PC) Heists ~ Other big changes to Online

2016 GTA V story DLC/ GTA IV Remake ~ LC added to Online via IV'S remake ~

2017 GTA (insert city name) adds a new city to Online, via the new game ~ small content updates for Online

2018 additional large content updates for Online

2019 GTA (insert city name) another city gets added to Online, via the new game ~ small content updates for Online

2020 launch of next gen consoles ~ GTA VI/GTA Online II announced

2021 GTA VI/GTA Online II (PC/PS5/Xbox????) GTA VI is a massive map that includes elements of V, IV, the two cities made between V and VI, plus 2 new major cities ~ GTA Online II is a new Online world, with a separate progression from GTA Online ~ it's also a reboot of the GTA Universe, moving out of the HD universe

This way there'd still be the large gap between numbered titles like III-IV, and IV to V.

Map expansions? yes.Realistic? NOPE!

One thing I can tell is that after the map expansion,R* will likely delete some stuff from the game in order to have more bytes for future updates.

most other cities are drab or the same as the others. Miami/VIce City is cool because it basically has elements of Liberty City and San Andreas combined, (hopefully) through a lens of awesome 80's nostalgia. And I think what they might be able to pull if keeping it 8th gen/PC only, might actually get some buildings we can go into this time.

Where else ya gonna have it? Chicago? Gonna look like Watch Dogs. Detroit? Gonna look like sh*t.

I remember reading an interview with the head of Rockstar a year or so ago and he explicitly stated that GTAV wasn't going anywhere for quite some time, and that it was their current main focus over developing VI. Rockstar has poured so much work into GTAO (just compare Week One of release to now) that it doesn't make sense to pour 5 months of work into a single update just to phase out the game in a year. I say we have at least one good year left of GTAV/GTAO before GTAVI is even remotely relevant.

Well Bullsworth, Cottonmouth, Capital City, Carter City, Liberty City (and it's surrounding area), Los Santos (and it's surrounding area), Los Venturas, Ludendorff, Mexico City, San Fierro, Salem and Vice City are all known to exist in the HD Universe. Yet only 3 of those locations have been visited so far in the HD Universe. There's plenty of locations to visit before ending the HD Universe. The HD Universe would likely end with GTA VI, if their goal is to create one massive GTA map spanning multiple states. Those states would likely include: Alderny, Liberty, North Yankton, and San Andreas. (Which would be the end of their current HD layouts, like their change from 3D to HD)

Any bets as to what the next universe of GTA could be? We've seen the 2D,3D,HD universes so I'm guessing the next would be the UHD Universe.

i just want a new location.

I just want North Yankton and then I'll be happy.

Map expansions like San Fierro and Las Venturas will not happen because of resources and time, but North Yankton might be doable.

I can hope.

Please!

They can't add a new map created from scratch. It's a lot of work. Unless they started a long time ago or just copy paste the one from GTA IV with improved stuff, but it's still a lot of work.

Detroit or New Orleans could be cool. Doubt heavily that we will see them, but both could have different vibe compared to pretty much every other city in the world.

IF we get a new city, i would bet it's LC.

I would much rather for GTA 6 they add Las Venturas and San Fierro on to the current map because Vice city would be based in Florida, and Florida's landscape is kinda boring to me. Just flat, barren swamp land, that will get boring within 5 minutes imo.

Haven't played IV in years, but i remember thinking when V came, i thought that the topography was way better in V. You know, little hills on the road, roads that are slightly higher on one side etc. If things like that really have changed, it could be much more work to make it technically "identical", so that other place doesn't feel older.

This isn't 2008, very few would care for a DLC like EFLC. GTA Online would not benefit from it by a single bit and after a week things would be exactly the same as they were before. A map addition, on the other hand (And by that i mean... You guessed it, Liberty City), has the power change both SP and Online drammatically, it would almost feel like a new game. And let's be honest, considering all the recent hype, we can safely assume that the community would absolutely love such an addition.

Well... EFLC had some really great changes to the online mode... entirely new weapons, vehicles, versus maps, accessible skyscrapers and other buildings, completely new player models and clothing.

Now some of that wouldn't really have an impact on Online as much as back in IV, but just look at some DLC items... Insurgent, Hydra, Homing Launcher, Karuma (/jk Kuruma)... They changed the gameplay as well and I'd imagine that any additional SP items would find their way into Online as well

It's 2.5 years later and we still can't go in 3/4 of the buildings we can in story so a whole new map is a lil premature

Possible? Yes. Realistic? No.

The map is what it is. R* got it right the first time.

I'm satisfied about the size of the map, but it has too many mountains and too little forests, which is a pitty.

A map expansion is the logical next step for GTA Online. When Rockstar chooses to implement it is anyone's guess.

I would love to know why you think that is logical (rather than putting it into a new game that they would make a lot more money off of).

As I and others said, the vast majority of the map is unused by most. Wasting time to create a map extension that people will check out a few times then ignore makes no sense to me at all. Most people I know don't drive around and explore, but do activities, so it makes more sense to add more things to do.

Rockstar have themselves said that GTA Online will be evolving with new locations

Yes, they did, but they were never referring to GTAO in its current form, their plan was always to have it expand beyond GTA V, either by way of a dedicated game like Elder Scrolls Online or in the next GTA.

If they do a separate subscription based / server based / therefore no cheating but all the fun of the current, i'll be FIRST in line throwing money at the screen!!!!! I'll buy pre-release which i never do! Gaming gods - please!!!

The problem lies in most of those cities you mention are land locked cities, this is one of the reasons we have yet to see carcer city for example. The only way i think they will do it is have it LC and one of those other citys kinda attached to it.I think they dont wanna gamble with a unknown city as a standalone

I think that was the idea all along, either that or letting you transfer your data onto the next iteration of the game.

It's entirely possible, I'd go as far as saying it's probable.

We know R* want to expand GTA Online with different cities to keep it fresh. It's been 2.5years since GTA:O started and over a year since PS4/Xbone versions of the game have been out, so much so that PS3/360 has officially been ditched. That now means that R* have a relatively new generation of console and plenty of time to work with and towards new map expansions. I'm not having it that it's not technically capable because it is. Look how far they pushed a 2006 tech console, I;m sure they can push a 2012 console a hell of a lot further. Hypothetically speaking, GTA:O has at least another 2/3years, until GTA VI anyway, so in that time, they have all this tech and they will have to fill it with genuine content to keep it fresh. A Liberty City updated port makes sense. Whether that comes via a remaster or just as a DLC, we'll see.

I really do hope R* don't keep us waiting longer than usual for GTA VI though. I know GTAO is a cash cow for them and while it's fun and kept GTA V fresh, you can't beat a new GTA game. If they have sense and real desire to make GTA:O as big as possible, they will carry it over to any new games and keep constantly expanding the map/content. We'll see I suppose. I still believe Funz that LC is coming - Something big is brewing, it has to be!

It's realistic to expect a normal developer to do something like this.

This is Rockstar though. No fun allowed.

Next-gen and PC can handle map expansions. R* just needs to put effort to it.
