Is a map expansion online realistic or not?

I always see people mentioning Rockstar possibly adding more to the map in the future.

Is this realistic or not?

Possible? Yes. Realistic? No.

The map is what it is. R* got it right the first time. I'd much rather them take the resources that they'd pour into updating a 2.5 year-old map into making GTA VI's map (wherever it happens to be) the best map yet. I've said this before, but the majority of players stay in the city 95% of the time. The other 3/4 of the map goes unused, yet players are asking for a bigger map. #ROFLNO

With next-gen capabilities,it is very possible to do. Whether or not they will is unknown.

A map expansion is the logical next step for GTA Online. When Rockstar chooses to implement it is anyone's guess.

There will be a GTA VI and a new map at some point that is certain. I'm sure the current new gen and PC could handle welding two maps together.

There is a question though as to how big is too big, the bigger the map, the more people get spaced out and the less the interaction between players. I think it could go a bit bigger than V's current map but I'm not sure how much bigger the ideal size would be. 2 times, 3 times?

it realistic but I don't think people appreciate how long these things take, like they can't just add sh*t at the flick of a wrist...

do you know how much on site research, photos they have to take, surveying, re-designing, storyboarding, scaling, programming they have to do??...Ive seen making of games and that sh*t is loong ass hard work

you need the location reference, texture, detail, colour, size, physics...they way people ask for things on here is ridiculous

What about islands? I want more reasons to fly or take a boat...I never drive boats. The Avi setup is fun...

I would love to know why you think that is logical (rather than putting it into a new game that they would make a lot more money off of).

As I and others said, the vast majority of the map is unused by most. Wasting time to create a map extension that people will check out a few times then ignore makes no sense to me at all. Most people I know don't drive around and explore, but do activities, so it makes more sense to add more things to do.

Rockstar have themselves said that GTA Online will be evolving with new locations, with that being said I think they will re-release GTA IV for current gen consoles at which point Liberty City will be added to the GTA Online universe. You will have to pay to play any major map expansion in a similar fashion to the current model. (GTA Online comes free with your purchased copy of GTAV)

Of course this all speculation and wishful thinking on my part but I can dream right?

^^^this. Ive never understood why people only hang out in a small portion of the map and secondly wtf is the point when as mention no one uses the existing maps extent.

Are you saying they would somehow be connected or would they be separate games? I am sure this was discussed ad nauseum but I am not going to go back and read pages and pages of stuff.

A definate possibility if online was being managed by a company who were capable of making it all run together , which rockstar cannot seem to do ,

Rockstar are a million miles ahead of any other game manufacturer when I comes to making static games like single player gta v , the actual designing and coding of the environment in los Santos and other gta games is phenomenally good as is the most of the content they have added , where they failing is trying to make this all work in a moving , evolving multiplayer basis , there are so many "running" problems with the game it is becoming unplayable ,but they seem to be problems that I'm sure could be resolved . But for some strange reason they either do not acknowledge there is issues with some bugs or stubbornly insist that it's the way the player has his/her console set up. I'd be over the moon if they just acknowledged there are problems and that how ever long it took th they were actively searching for solutions but with the feedback you get from them that seems not to be the case ...

So in short , yes it's possible

But it won't happen with the current set up

Yes, they did, but they were never referring to GTAO in its current form, their plan was always to have it expand beyond GTA V, either by way of a dedicated game like Elder Scrolls Online or in the next GTA.

First we got hundreds of topics about yachts, now it's the turn of map extensions.

What next? Donuts?

Is it realistic to crash into a tree going at 200KM/H without diying or at least destroy the car ? Nope.

This is Rockstar. With them everything is possible. They are always so unexpected, that they might even release a Max Payne 3 remastered next week... I thought some things may be not be possible with R*, but after they released yachts I started thinking different. Also Michael voice actor, Ned Luke, gave us a hint about map expansion so yeah.

And yet I opt for a helicopter each time

The yachts gave me reason to use boats for the first time in Online and no just to get to shore, but to go and check out other players' yachts

Why would they remaster MP3 of all games? The graphics stack up just fine to current gen V.

the city have the bigger apartments/garages and lots of places to take cover while battling, thats why people tend to stay there.

what hint was that?

I can't see it happening before 6 is released.

Unless GTA Next is coming sooner than 2019 I doubt we won't get some kind of map expansion until then.....

I think this year a updated Liberty City map will come with Story DLC. Bringing back fans of single player and online together with many more millions upgrading to current gen.

Stupid f*cking backseat moderator, the OP is asking if map expansions are realistic in the lifespan of GTAO.

The answer is yes.
