Does anyone here get videogame 'burnout'?

The one and only time I took a long break from gaming was in 2012. Other than that I’ve been gaming regularly. And this generation I probably played more than ever. It’s a good time to be a fan of games!

Sorta, but in a different sense. I don't get so burnt out to where I don't go near my console, but I do get tired of playing the same game for too long. But when that happens I just switch to something else to play til I'm ready to come back.

I don't get burnout from gaming full stop but I do get burnout from playing the same game too much especially if what I'm doing in-game is repetitive - I play a lot of loot games which I generally play in cycles cause of the burn out I get there.

Only times I get 'burn out' now is when I'm close to getting a Platinum Trophy. I'm fine like 80% of the way but after that I get impatient as f*ck, so I'll sometimes try rushing a game to finish the last set of trophies I need. Wish I could cut that mindset, but yeah.

I haven't been playing videogames in the last few months as much as I did before.I guess I just got bored with the games I have, and if I could afford some new games I'd play more, but for now I play maybe once a week (or even more rarely) for around an hour or two.I just hope I don't permanently lose interest in games as I get older,I don't want that to happen.

No, its the opposite - lack of enough time for playing. Apart from weekends and holidays, i have to adjust my days schedule to take some time off, in case, i am in the mood for gaming

Regarding the burn out, i don't recall having it at any point in time. It is very important for me to have games library I will be returning or revisiting often than buying numerous games I know i won't be replaying in the future, this saves a lot of time and money to avoid feeling disappointed in playing it.

It helps to keep my interest in gaming despite work pressures, and even relieve my stress in enjoying only those games that i will replay a lot.

I'm burnt the f*ck out of TF2, the most I can handle is maybe one round of CTF a month.

A real shame, I f*ckin loved that game. It was goofy fun you could jump into whenever.

Got to be honest, I think I'm burnt out of single player games. These past few days I've been bouncing around different games and getting sick of them almost instantly, but I've been having fun playing Multiplayer games. I think I've played too many story games lately that I've burnt myself out.

Think I'm going to take a break for a couple of weeks, and just play whatever Multiplayer game I fancy and come back to SP games when I'm feeling the urge again. I'm obviously doing it wrong when I'm forcing myself to play games in my backlog like it's a checklist. I even hate calling it a 'backlog' now actually, makes it seem like a job or necessity.

We all need breaks sometimes. I didn't play any playstation from around 2014 to 2016 because I lost interest. Some of it is that there's so many sh*t games out there, it's just like the movies. I feel like nothing good has come out of hollywood in the last decade, and I think the same of AAA games - with a few exceptions, of course. I liked RDR2, flawed as it is, and I love Apex Legends for some f*cking reason.
Sometimes I can feel some fatigue from playing too long in one sitting, then I'll usually not play for a few days as a reaction.

I played consoles until 2013 and since only play rarely old games with the PC because I don’t have not too much interest in video games and I am very lost with most of the new stuff.

Apex Legends is great. Probably the best BR out right now. Titanfall has some of the best mechanics of any shooter.

Totally agreed, I don't usually like BR games. This game is such a joy to play, talk about intuitive controls! Love the characters, too.

Very true. There was one point where I played just GTA Online, and it got so boring after a while. I play something different basically every day now. I have a 3-4 games I regularly play right now, all different genres. Really keeps things feeling fresh.

Me, recently. Y'know... work, going out and Netflix have reduced my playtime. Still passionate about video games and follow a lot of gaming related stuff basically everyday, but only playing mobile game's nowadays. Gonna get back at it of course

I'm really burnt out right now, but only single player games. I recently quit trophy hunting on PS4 and I'm still trying to get used to it. I can't really enjoy story games yet because I still have those damn trophies at the back of my mind. Right now I'm focusing on the Multiplayer games I want to play and having fun. Slowly but surely I'm starting to find that drive to play games again, but I find myself getting in that competitive spirit. So single player games against the computer just don't cut it.

Yes all the time. Sometimes the burnout lasts a day, sometimes it'll last for months. I find that I don't enjoy playing video games as much as I used to. Maybe because I'm getting older and have been playing video games since I was a child? I don't know but I find that I experience a "Video Game Burnout" more than I did when I was younger.

For me, I've been going out of my comfort zone with games. I used to always go with a select few genres and ignore everything else for some reason. Lately I'm much more open to more niche titles and indie games and I have been having some of my most fun gaming. I also don't force myself to finish games anymore. I used to play through a game even if it wasn't very good, now I just delete if it isn't grabbing me.

So far, so good.

Yeah I'm burnt out with games in general. They aren't that fun for me anymore and even trying new games doesn't bring the interest back. In all honesty I'm tired of playing video games, the fun in them just isn't there for me anymore. Maybe it's because the kind of games I like aren't really made anymore. You can't find any arcade racer style games anymore and the few that still get made seem to lack content that old ps2 games had. On top of that only one of the old race game series still exists and Need for Speeds have been lackluster since the 2010 Hot Pursuit one. The new one doesn't interest me much since it just seems to be Payback in a different city. First person shooter games I never got into and online PvP games interest me even less since people take those games way too seriously for me to put up with. Yeah I'm burnt out on modern games.

Do you still play games on a daily basis despite not having any interest to do so?

If so, I'd recommend taking days away and see how you feel. There was a point whee I felt the same and I always just don't boot my PS4 up at all until that craving to play games comes back again. Might be a couple of days, weeks or months. I think it's important you don't treat gaming like a chore.

Yeah i still play often because driving around was always a decent way for me to wind down after the day. Last year I didn't really play anything for several months and when I started playing games again the interest waned very quickly. I just attribute it to getting older and having a growing desire to start spending more time with real life friends. None of the ones i have play games as far as i know. Staying out till 2 am in real life is a lot more fun than playing a game with someone I'll likely never meet till 2 am.

It could all just be changes in the industry, the push for online subscription based games is a real turn off for people like me who'd rather just pay for the game once and play it than buy the game, then buy add ons for said game so that it's more complete. And then with Sony's push for online  subscription fees it makes me feel like I should play online as often as I can take to get my money's worth out of it. Problem with that is I'm basically paying $60 a year to play the online portion of one game and the only reason why bother with the online portion of GTA 5 is because of the cars I own. Take away the cars and I have no incentive to renew ps plus.

But like I said elsewhere if my system craps itself and I lose all my save data I'm just gonna call it the end of my gaming era. It's not enjoyable enough for me to justify the costs of a new system and all that. My ps2 and ps3 still work and often times those old games still have that fun factor that has gone away from newer games.

Sounds like you're just growing out of it which is totally fine as well. Sometimes it's not burnout and simply just you want to move on with your life. I wouldn't be surprised if it happens to me eventually. It's hard to imagine my life without my favourite hobby but we change as we get older.

Nothing wrong with just enjoying older games. They are cheaper to buy and much more affordable. No worrying about online either.

I think for many people a gaming burnout is just a sign that one perhaps should have re-evaluated the time one spend on gaming before it actually comes along.
