Should There Be More Incentive For Co-Operation?

I recently created a thread saying the game gets rather boring. Obviously some disagreed and some agreed.

Freeroam

Thinking about it, boring should be re-phrased to "I'd like co-operative improvements please!" Freeroam is still a warzone despite updates to TRY and increase co-operation. R* clearly can see it needs attention, which is why said update was released. How could it be improved further though? A full on player-driven cop system? A lobby where you can murder only the AI like Red Dead?

Missions

Not only is freeroam a place for not co-operating, but so are contact missions and heists. I see a lot of people want to do such things on their own because people are stupid, which I know can't be helped fully. Heists for example, could really benefit from more checkpoints and not having the thing end if someone quits. Why not have a person join in-progress or something after a short wait?

Anyway, I would prefer you to come up with ideas to make the co-operative aspect more enjoyable. I really think this is a big problem for me and why I probably find it a bit dull at times. I AM NOT saying this is about how stupid people can be, but what do you think can be done to keep a game going and everyone working together? Should there be punishments for quitters ect?

Basically, how could we make team work more lucrative and the game more fun? Let's not bring available friends into this, simply because it can derail everything.

Content pack ideas are also welcome by the way.

this is a thing that friendly lobbies would fix, but R* refuse to implement them for some dumbass reason.

Aren't friendly lobbies essentially lobbies where either everyone is your friend or the entire mode has friendly fire?

I suggest, to enenhance cooperation, they add more cooperative interactions. It could go from quintessential stuff like "hold X to revive incapacitated ally" to more useful tactics like breaching, boosting players up to a higher vantage point, numerous flank points to allow players to strategies approaches, and add more advantages or disadvantages to each role in a heist. That way you'll be forced to group together to counteract the debuffs.

It's simple co-op game mechanics that could truly change the way you play.

Although, these additions seem like a little out for GTA standards.

they need to raise the payout in missions and heists, that would help a little.

They could maybe come up with a free roam game mode that incorporates the Valkrie or Insergent gunner/Technical/limo gunner as the vehicles that must be used against some NPC enemies....those vehicles are pretty useless when used alone so it would force cooperation.

Well for the free events one of the problems i noticed is that people who attack the yacht lets say there is always that 1 guy who shoots everyone, so you are stuck between shoot at him and shoot/attack the actual yacht. Same goes for all other events a fix maybe for players who attack to join a team or something so they dont have friendly fire.

As for other stuff i think adding a good RP bonus for everything you do with another person is a way to maybe increase co-op.

PS: I am usually the one who does Deliver EMP alone or doesn't do it at all kinda person so i may not have the best ideas :D

You want to see co-op in action, the cult favorite Extinction DLC in Call of Duty Ghosts is a must play. Its not at all like call of duty but consists of Four players with different roles/ abilities that have to work together to finish the levels against apocalyptic aliens. That game was a blast and many hoped it would become its own game but nothing sofar.

As for GTA 5, I dunno what to say, Just having friends and family joining up with you in the lobby is the best existing setup if the servers could work better.

GTA V/O is a very chumpy unskilled mess of a game from the way it was made/engine, so PvP is just horrible and not fun imo. It's for this reason that Rockstar should focus on PvE, especially in freeroam.

the problem is waiting for other players....or actually having friends who can play with you at the same time

nearly every game mode has co-op options...missions, heists, TDM, LTS, rally race, lamar missions, VIP, survivals, adversary modes, even gang attacks force nearby players to team up

dunno what you are on about mate, no offense......people don't like playing with randoms 1, don't like waiting for lobbies 2 and some simply like playing alone...besides not everyone has "friends" to play with

I just don't think cooperation will take off in this game between strangers as there's simply no trusting anyone. Idiot gamers prefer to kill others rather than form alliances, which is a shame as alliances make this game a lot more fun.

One highly cooperative game i know of is monster hunter, people form up parties to hunt monsters for parts. But that wasn't truly online play.

Agreed...needs way more co operation.

they need to raise the payout in missions and heists, that would help a little.

No there needs to be bigger payouts for doing jobs together, driving together and even more for working with friends and crew members

The VIP system makes for good co-operation

How? it's just protect the bounty from the bounty hunters basically right? I'd prefer a whole lobbies worth of co-operation, not a tiny group. I think VIP just makes people want to kill other people more, unless you are in a invite lobby doing missions with just friends.

I don't think that rockstar have done anything to enact co-operation. All their updates are adversary modes. The new VIP system might look like it's about teaming up, but it's about teaming up to cream each other. Hell, the advert for it ended with a jet and a tank going into action.

Rockstar want LS to be a warzone. That seems to be the focus of their game.

Warzone, agreed, Just like a microcosm of real life. You expect its easy to go out for a night on the town and no one ever roughs anyone up? You think women can go out at 3 in the morning and nothing happens to them?

Rockstar is a microcosm of the real world in all of its dangers and greed and idiocracy and shootings.

If the world were touchy feely friendly 24/7, wed have the mystical lost paradise the Bible talks about and thered be no news, no police men, no court system and no guns

Keep dreaming.

R*'s major customer is 12 - 14 year old males, they don't have the attention span for co-op missions

They want to play free roam warrior and when that gets old...

Troll missions and heists by intentionally failing them

We had maybe 3 good months at launch when you could get randoms to cooperate and not worry about being trolled

There already are co-operative free roam events, to a certain degree. The problem is that your average GTA player is too dumb to realise it and will gun you down, allowing the VIP to escape - who you were both trying to stop.

Well no. There are billions of unviolent people in the world. But if you look at LS on any given day it looks more like a middle eastern warzone than a western 21st century city. Sprawling gun battles, military vehicles in the street, heavy armed arial war machines hosing down and blowing up everything in sight. Cops turning every offense into a mad max chase anf Heat style shootout. It's not really anything like real life.

If you look at the candles burning thread in here you can see that the majority of voters are above 21. That is surely indicitive of an older set of gamers.

It may only be four players, but it's unrealistic to expect an entire lobby to be friendly. It's like getting everyone in a Call of Duty match to stop shooting at each other.

What they should do is add more incentives for real crews. Ones that only have a few members that actually play like a team. You could add turfs and crew vehicles. As well as special weapons. there's a co op element that would pit teams against eachother on free mode.

I believe the only way to make the freeroam friendlier would be to use a system similar to the one present in Red Dead Redemption.

Lobbies in which you can't shoot players, like if it was a permanent passive mode, but at the same time there's interactivity with everyone. I remember going hunting with randoms without fearing of getting shot in the back, or bar fights, or races, or...too much to say.

You wanted to kill someone? Fine, there were lobbies where you could do that and also loads of different modes (like GTA after all). I'm afraid R* will never implement this any time soon anyway

I agree with the OP and with all the posters who suggest friendly lobby options. That's my usual suggestion as well.

Here's another more radical suggestion: Keep the lobbies the way they are, since Rockstar apparently is incapable of lobby options. Instead, make each player death cost the killer $100,000, straight from the shared bank account (or cash) of the player's two characters. That would disincentivize PvP killing.

If their bank account is dry, start taking their weapons and ammo.

Not practical of course, and exploiters would quickly think of dirty work-arounds. but it's an idea.

It's one thing to want friendly lobbies but it's another thing to try and get rid of killing other players at all. Rockstar itself intended that to be part of the game. Daily Objectives even sometimes give you some Rockstar sanctioned griefing.

I agree the option to have friendly lobbies would help the players who want to meet other like minded players to do heists. Also there should be a penalty for quitters or like has already been suggested, let players join if Someone leaves or at least let us complete the setup missions and heists if someone dies. This is what stops people playing heists which is a real shame as the time rockstar put into making them just seems a waist. I'm sick of playing 2 year old missions and when I finally get in a heist it's a constant battle or worry of who's going to quit or get killed deliberately. I really don't understand why rockstar have made heists and Lamar missions this way. What a waste

Yes, definitely. As it stands now it's just a mess of idiots, griefers, and people who just want to PVP all day "because it's GTA".
