Bicycle as inventory weapon

21 members have voted

  1. 1. Would you like this feature?

  2. 2. If you voted no, would you prefer the skateboard feature from Bully in GTA

Recommended Posts

The way I see it, bicycles in GTA are practically useless and you'd never used them unless needed to if a misssions requires you to do so. It will be like Bully's skateboard and only for transportation.

Purpose: If you are stranded in the middle of nowhere without a vehicle, take out a bike from your pocket to get to places faster.

The in universe explanation why the bicycles fit in your pocket is that they're foldable bicycles so you can fit them in your pockets (Like how in Pokemon you can carry bikes literally in your bag).

And before you say this is unrealistic, how is being able to carry up to tons of weapons like miniguns and RPGs in your pocket realistic?

UPDATE: I'm really surprised with the results here. GTA V allows you to roll vehicles back on their wheels if tumbled around... thats even more unrealistic but was added to avoid being stuck and yet nobody complained about that. My idea was for the purpose if the vehicle you're driving ever explodes.

I made the exact same question on another website and I've got more 'Yes' votes than 'No'

http://www.gamefaqs.com/boards/805601-grand-theft-auto-v/73096105

(After I post this I bet people here will spam 'No' votes on that topic)

I really dont understand why this forum seems to hate the idea so much.

I see where you're coming from, but even with the craziness of the GTA logic, it still seems kinda over the top.

On the other hand, a skateboard could be believable.

Firstly, you cannot rightly give a "universe explanation" and then in the very next sentence imply that it doesn't need to be realistic, but that's beside the point. I personally think it is a terrible idea. Today a bike, tomorrow a Blista Compact, then a tank and so on...just leave the inventory as is.

So you're saying that because you can carry a bicycle in your bag in Pokemon, then you should be able to in GTA?

We should add fictionalized creatures that can breathe fire and conjure ice projectiles in GTA because Pokemon has those.

I don't know why I don't like this idea, but I don't. How would dismounting work in your view? Would you just leave the bike on the ground and have it replace itself, or would there be an animation and wait time for putting it away? Both would annoy me, but maybe there's another way?

He said they would be folding bikes.

Pokemon also has televisions, and so does GTA, and that is A-okay. :^:

They should fit in your inventory, before you say anything, please remember that in pokemon, dragons and electric gay rodents fit in your pocket dimension called "pokeball".

Coincidence? I think not, thank you lizard people.

f*ck bicycles. Instead, you should carry around parts of a disassembled car and once you use it, there's an animation of your character putting it together for 5 real-time hours until you can use it. Then when you're done, the same animation plays but in reverse.

And if you want to use a Train, it's 10 Hours. ;)

My thoughts exactly. While I know carrying a bicycle in your pocket is unrealistic, let's dont forget that this is the game where you can carry miniguns, rocket launchers and heat seekers, carry ten types of handguns, five types of assault rifles, countless melee weapons, a couple of different shotguns and SMG's, different types of explosives AND a gasoline can all at the same time. So carrying a bike in your pocket shouldn't make a difference. Do you agree with me?

I would expect such move from Saints Row, but GTA?

See my first paragraph for my reply to this. How would GTA not a make a move like this anyway? We already had the skateboard from Bully. And Bully is made by the same company that makes GTA. Considering the numerous times my car exploded in an area where there is little to no traffic and no vehicles spawn there, it frustrates my a lot whenever that happens. Besides that, it speeds up the game overall so I don't have to do so much walking/running. This pretty much sums up why I would like to have this feature in the GTA series.

No, just steal a car or use cheats.

Did you not read the OP properly? "Purpose: If you are stranded in the middle of nowhere without a vehicle, take out a bike from your pocket to get to places faster". If you're stranded in the desert where would you steal a car? And not everyone uses cheats. In fact, there are people who hate using cheats.

I see where you're coming from, but even with the craziness of the GTA logic, it still seems kinda over the top.

On the other hand, a skateboard could be believable.

I can also see where you're coming from. The difference is that Bully had a very, very small map. Skateboard wouldnt make much of a difference in GTA but I wouldnt mind it either :)

While this paragraph isnt addressed to theGTAking101, whats so wrong about me bringing Pokemon in the discussion? I see it so often when people reference other game franchises when suggesting ideas. If anything, I was trying to replicate the Skateboard idea from Bully. Pokemon was just an example on how the bike is used. Not that I want actual Pokemon to appear in GTA at all. If you think this is a stupid idea, is the Skateboard from Bully a stupid idea as well?

Okay. Instead of accessing the weapon wheel whenever you want to use the bike (which I know will annoy some people) , clicking SELECT will toggle it on and off like how the Pokemon games do. Is that any better?

Damn! I should have made this a public poll so I know which users voted 'Yes' agreed with me (and maybe the ones who disagree with me as well). Too bad I can't change that now. :(

It's a shame that this poll got more 'No' votes than 'Yes' votes. Not that I have a problem with it but I just like some more detailed and valid reasoning to support your opinion. American Viking's reply was the closest to a valid one but even then I still strongly disagree with it. The first sentence I can understand. But then again, according to GTA Wiki, the in-universe for why you cant swim in GTA III is that the water is pollution. Sure it will hinder swimming but instant drwoning? I doubt it. [Note that I dont remember if this was actually said in the game itself. As I said before, I just read it from GTA Wiki]

Actually the skateboard thing was supposed to appear in San Andreas originally. Besides, the HD era games are supposed to be realistic (as far as a GTA game can be realistic). In real life when you're in the middle of nowhere without a vehicle, you will not draw a skateboard or a bike from your pocket and just take off. It's very Saints Row. Might as well draw out a jetpack :/

Well, I dont know about that. The fact that you can carry so many weapons itself is unrealistic. Only difference is that having a skateboard or bike in your pocket wouldnt be too broken in GTA because you cant physically do most things on it. Bicycles are the slowest type of vehicles (anything slower than a bike has things the make up for it like the Rhino has a cannon and is near indestructible). Besides that, doing drive-bys in bicycle is a hindrance since it's hard to make a quick getaway when tons of enemies are closing in on you. The main purpose of this feature is for moderate speed transportation until you can find a car. Not like I would drive a bike everywhere. I'd only use it if there's not a single vehicle around for me to steal.

But I think the jetpack would be too broken in that regard because

1) People would just spam it because you could fly virtually anywhere (eg. During a gang war, fly up to the nearest house/building so you would be safe from enemy fire.Whereas bicycles cant do that for you).

2) Shooting while on jetpack is actually quite useful

3) It's easy to avoid taking hits on a jetpack

Even if R* makes jetpacks portable then it would most likely be introduced very late in the game. They could pretty much introduce protable bikes on the first mission and it wouldnt be broken at all.

I'd prefer to have a Skateboard as a part of the Inventory as it would be more believable (it's smaller) that way.

Never played Bully, but I don't see any crime in having a Bicycle in my pockets, esp., with the amount of things V allows to carry, anything is possible in the GTA Universe.

This HD era being realistic and all is just for the sake of making player believe it is, when its not.

If you want to go somewhere fast, call a cab, it would be cringy to pull off a bike out of the blue, on the skate thing, it takes certain type of character, i can't imagine Niko or Tommy skating, is not really a necesary feature in gta.

A big "No" from me. Wouldn't like to see GTA become Saints Row.

You could only carry weapons with yourself and it's been this way since the very first game. In the beginning your basic weapons were a pistol and a sub-machine gun, but after GTA 2 came out, now you had a pocket full of guns. While this wasn't a bad thing in the 3D-era games which took elements of all genres, the HD-era tries to be somewhat realistic, while staying true to its roots at the same time.

I can accept having 9 or so weapons in your pocket in GTA IV (there was almost no divercity in the weapons choice in that game). But GTA V took it a little too far. Not only were there a thousand weapons in that game, but you could also carry each and every one of them in you at all times. Unlike previous games where you had to replace weapons of the same sort, GTA V allowed you to carry them (and use them) all. This is probably the most irritating part of GTA V for me. Not that I use more than two weapons, but this, along with the health-regeneration thing, was just too unrealistic and too noob-friendly in my opinion. Yet GTA V was the most challenging game of the series for me (and still is). Even with having infinite health (basically) and Hulk-mode, I still died more often in that game than I did with previous.

But having a bicycle and/or a skateboard in your pocket is just an awful idea. It would've been an awful idea to include a skateboard in San Andreas, and it was awful having a skateboard in Bully. I'm glad that GTA has never had a skateboard or something like that. I could tolerate the jetpack in San Andreas, but a bicycle in your pocket would be one of the worst things to ever happen to the series. In real life you wouldn't draw out a bicycle in the middle of nowhere and just take off. Even if players rarely use bicycles, you can't deny that they add ralism to the game. I see bicycles in real life all the time on the streets and the sidewalks.

Might as well have a pocket UFO (property of the government), pocket roller blades, pocket pony and a pocket potato for good measure.

Is there any reason why was skateboard treated as an inventory item in Bully?

I am guessing skateboard has a lot of use in Bully. It makes sense then to make an exception in this case to make it easy for players to access skateboard, which is fine.

In GTA SA you don't depend on bycycles when you have so many vehicles to choose from. If I want to ride the bycycle then I will simply pick one where it spawns and have fun.

Also what you mentioned OP in the linked topic:

Purpose: If you are stranded in the middle of nowhere without a vehicle, take out a bike from your pocket to get to places faster.

Are you talking about being stranded in the middle of nowhere in Bully ( sorry, I haven't played the game yet so pls. excuse my, if this sounds like a silly question ) or GTA???

In GTA you can easily find vehicles within a close vicinity of any place, except in the countryside of GTA SA, but even then I don't recall about any instance of getting a vehicle being hard anyway.

If you are implying that you only want to ride a bycycle at any given place then that's not a strong reason to make bycycle available in your pockets. It doesn't matter how Bully did. Both games are different with different worlds, characters and situations. This line of argument that if every game can do this and that then why not GTA does not appear a very mature line of thought.

You need to take into consideration a lot of other things before wishing something to have.

Like I said, I have no issues with having it either.

Just presenting another side, why it makes no sense of having it either.

Someone else might wish to have their fav. bike in pockets every time, or taxis, or later one may even want an option of carrying both Roman and bowling alley in pockets to play anywhere on map, and so on....

It simply doesn't make sense.

I wouldn't mind a racing bicycle in my inventory. I mean, its no less realistic than carrying the following on my person at all times without so much as a bulge in my pocket:

Rocket launcher with 10 Homing RPG's

Rocket Launcher with 10 regular RPG's

Grenade launcher

20 of each EVERY type of grenade

A half a dozen Sniper rifles with almost 10K rounds

Tons of pistols, Uzi's, heavy machine guns, Assault Rifles, and Shotguns, all with about 10K rounds each

Mini-Gun with 10K rounds (lol)

A half dozen melee weapons

Are we really going to balk at the idea of a bicycle in our inventory because that would be unrealistic? Plus as an avid cyclist in real life, I love riding the bikes in this game and San Andreas.

One thing I honestly wish Rockstar would do with this game is something Saints Row has done with all the games starting with SR2, and have some variation of Homie Vehicle Delivery, where you call up on your cell phone and get any vehicle you own delivered right to where you are.
