The Odyssey
http://www.latinpost.com/articles/105563/20160101/christopher-nolans-dunkirk-dated-summer-2017.htm So the name of Christopher Nolans new movie has been announced recently, and it looks like its set around the war genre. According to Variety, the director announced that his next film will take place during World War II and revolve around Dunkirk. The film, currently titled "Dunkirk," was written by Nolan and will likely tell the story of the historical evacuation of the northern French city during WWII. What are your thoughts on Nolan directing a WW2 movie?
Girish
There's very little information available about the film right now but it's definitely interesting to see Nolan try something other than sci-fi. I have no doubt that he'll come up with something brilliant. Whether it'll be as good as some other war films out there, only time will tell. As for the story, I think, for a change, he needs to keep it simple and straightforward rather than trying to over-complicate it. The tone has to be tense and gripping. But knowing Nolan, the narrative is going to be non-linear. Still, I'm sincerely looking forward to see what he comes up with. acmilano
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8u0Vsyt2PaM It would be interesting to see that movie.I always liked good WW2 movies so I hope this one would be the same. And there wasn't that much movies about that event and early stages of war so it would be interesting.

Vanilla Shake
It's a Christopher Nolan WWII film that has Nolan collaborating with Tom Hardy for the third time, only now Hardy has the lead role. So I'm pumped, especially after that trailer. The cinematography looked excellent in that teaser, and it's being done by the same guy who shot Interstellar, so I have zero doubts that this will visually be a spectacle to behold on the big screen. I wonder if this time he'll go for an R rating, with it being an actual war film and all. Minimal blood and cursing wouldn't seem right for that kind of environment, especially since most of the best war films portray the absolute insanity of it. EDIT: Just read that Tom Hardy only plays a supporting role in this and that the lead is Fionn Whitehead, whom I've never heard of. Oh well, still excited. Davo the Assassin
Saw this trailer. As someone who loves anything WW2 related, I am thoroughly excited for this film. @Vanilla: Right there with you there on the R rating. I hope they go for the more realistic, graphic representation. There's a reason the D-Day scene in Saving Private Ryan remains one of the most awe-inspiring, if horrific representations of war I've ever seen. Same with Band of Brothers. You can't do the topic any justice without it.

acmilano
Nice teaser. Hope it will be as authentic as possible. Love those older WW2 movies and this one could be good too. And it is about one not so represented event so it should be interesting.
Spaghetti Cat
Didn't the Nazi's beat the Brits at Dunkirk? Or am I thinking of something else? Still, kinda odd choice for a film. IDK maybe it'll expand out beyond, we'll see... No Image Available
Davo the Assassin
Didn't the Nazi's beat the Brits at Dunkirk? Or am I thinking of something else? Still, kinda odd choice for a film. IDK maybe it'll expand out beyond, we'll see... Britain was forced from the continent, and had to leave behind a large amount of its equipment, but the majority of the fighting men of the British Expeditionary Force were saved from what was otherwise going to be almost complete annihilation. They had initially hoped to save no more than a few tens of thousands at most, but ended up saving 338,226 soldiers, including huge numbers of French and other allied forces (though many of those French soldiers were repatriated shortly after and captured later on IIRC). It was seen as a miracle, and used an example of never giving up even in the face of almost impossible odds. It was also helped by the fact that a lot of civilian sailors and crews volunteered themselves and their ships to assist the Royal Navy I'm evacuating the forces. Quite a few were killed in the process. It was a small beacon of hope in what was otherwise a disaster and as happens in war, the story of Dunkirk was immortalised as a symbol of defiance. Every schoolboy in Britian (even until this day I'd say) was aware of the 'Miracle of Dunkirk' and the 'Spirit of Dunkirk'.
Spaghetti Cat
Ahh ok, blame my American edumacation but it does seem strange that it's a movie essentially about a retreat. Not to take away from any of what happened, just an odd perspective. I was trying to think what might be comparable. Maybe something like Das Boot or the Alamo movies. Can't go wrong with shooting Nazi's, but having them winning is...idk...strange to me. But hey, we'll see won't we? No Image Available
Erik Decimus
Cool teaser.. I wish trailers like this were only allowed. I hate that studios think the movie has to be spelled out for us in 2 1/2 to 3 minutes like were morons.
Davo the Assassin
I'm probably more excited for this film than I have been for any other in a long time. And it certainly will be interesting to see what approach they take with the narrative. I feel the miracle nature of Dunkirk will be lost on most audiences. Leaving just the fact it was a only somewhat mitigated military disaster. Unless of course he takes that approach and makes a much darker film. But war films can already be a hard pill to swallow, even more so if it's about a defeat! The only good comparison I can think of would be Black Hawk Down, where they salvaged what they could from an operation that went absolutely to sh*t. But it's on a completely different scale. Nevertheless, very excited! The Odyssey
