constant FPS stuttering? help?

Question

jdaniel21

before i begin, here are my system specs

mobo: MSI MS-7267 945GCM5

CPU: intel core 2 duo e8400 3.0 GHz

GPU: EVGA geforce GT 730 2 GB

RAM: 4 GB DDR2

HDD: 320 GB WD blue sata 7200 RPM

OS: windows 10 64 bit

i can kind of play the game on my custom built, but i want to know why it slows down. i can play the game very smoothly on my lenovo laptop, but not my desktop, when im in a rural area away from los santos with not that many pedestrians or traffic, i get a solid 60 FPS in the game, but when i drive closer to the city, the game freezes every 9 seconds, and i see buildings being rendered in the distance. and ive noticed that my HDD activity light is blinking like crazy when it happens, ive checked task manager and GTA V is only using 89% of my RAM. so im really confused... is there anyway i can speed up the game? my motherboard only supports a max of 4 GB RAM, nothing else, i just want a way to play the game smoothly until i get a new motherboard that supports core 2 quad CPU's. are there any fixes or patches? the computer runs all my other games lag-free, but GTA V is a problem with it. my nvidia drivers are fully updated.

EDIT: i forgot to mention that i have the steam version of the game, ive also verified the integrity of the game cache 2 times

Try this:

- Open settings.xml located in my documents/rockstar games/gta v, then search the DirectX version = 2, change the number "2" to "0" (without ") OR when in game, pause the game, open tab settings -> graphics, sett the DirectX version from DirectX 11 to DirectX 10

- Open graphics setting -> sett texture quality -> High

-If the VRAM usage goes too high, lowest every settings as possible (EXCEPT Texture Quality and DirectX version)

This trick works for me (except when turning on the Self Radio), good luck.

i did that, now my game is stuck at "loading story mode"
