Didn’t like RDR2 at all.

I didn’t like Red Dead 1 so not sure why I thought I would like RDR 2.

WD2's San Francisco is a lot better than GTA V's Los Santos.

Not sure how unpopular this is in the grand scheme of the gaming world, but we're on GTAF where I've seen WD mentioned like it's Satan so what the hell.

Agreed. Atleast San Francisco functions beyond more than just being window dressing.

How about arcade ones like Need For Speed?

I'm a huge fan of racing games but simulators are just boring IMO. NFS MW 2005 is still one of the best games I've ever played.

This is fair and I agree with you. In simulators like Gran Turismo, you can't really race however you want, it's always you have to brake at certain corners, etc. That sort of hampers the game for me. I still like the huge car lists these games offer though, arcade racers just happen to be more fun.

For me it's the complete opposite. Simulators are more fun to me because I'm generally a car nut in person. I like the challenges simulators provide like pit stops, fuel, tyre management etc. It wouldn't be a "simulator" if you could drive like a bat out of hell without consequences.

Different strokes for different folks I guess.

No worries. I'm not really a car nut or anything but I appreciate all sorts of cars, I just can't really get down with simulators often, but it's been some years since I've played one, so maybe I'll give the latest GT a go.

Agreed. I think both of Watch Dogs maps are better than GTA V.

I loved Chicago and the rainy atmosphere, and I loved the sunny & detailed San Francisco. If there's one thing WD nails, it's the maps and environments.

I honestly can't wait for WD 3, if it's really set in London then that's awesome. Finally some unique ground that can help it stand out more from GTA! Though we better be able to wear that big hat the royal guards wear 😂

I liked Hitman Absolution.

It was definitely weaker than Blood Money, but I thought the level design was great. They just put too many stupid features in that didn't need to be in a Hitman game.

Rockstar has below average mission design despite their brilliant open worlds.

Last Of Us was an excellent story with dull gameplay.

Nintendo needs to drop Zelda and Mario. Just move on man.

The Witcher 3 is unbelievably boring. Beautiful game, but I've never been more bored in my life playing a game.

In a 29-page thread, I'm sure it's been said already, if not by my own younger self, but I really do believe the 60+-hour, open-ended sandbox formula (not to be confused with free-roam styles of games) has largely been a blight on contemporary game design. Ultimately, instead of creating deep worlds, writers and designers are compelled to ditch depth of experience in favor of quantity of experience when they realize it's "up to the player". The consequence of this formula has been, to borrow from someone else, games that have "all the breadth of an ocean, but the depth of a puddle".

In hindsight, having poured hundreds of hours into Oblivion, FO3, FO:NV, Skyrim, and FO4, I think I can safely say that Bethesda *Game* Studios has failed to release a single game possessing any real quality or depth since Morrowind. Deferring to Obsidian for FO:NV has proven to be Bethesda's only intelligent executive decision in the past decade.

Graphics do matter...A lot actually.

I went to my brother's house yesterday and saw him playing a soccer game on my old PS3 that I gave to him and HOLY f*ck, the rugged animations, bad framerate, apparent lack of any anti-aliasing...We take graphics for granted and YouTube doesn't do it justice on how BAD it looks, you have to see it for yourselves in a big screen to bask in it's awful glory.

And since I upgraded to current gen, I haven't gotten aorund to playing GTA IV...And the thought of it scares me now.

Also I warmed up to V singleplayer...Not that mindblowning thing like IV was for me, but eh...It's fine on current gen, I should have finished the story mode again.

Another unpopular opinion:

All hype I had for Cyberpunk died down once I saw the gameplay trailer...I just can't stand First Person View games at all, which is quite a shame because the story mode looks very intriguing, but with that kind of gameplay the game ain't seeing my money.

For the first time ever, R* has failed to release a GTA game for current gen.   I hear you scream "GTAV!".  Excuse me, GTAV is a last gen port.

Not only graphics, my friend. We also have a lot of emotional memories about the older games when we don't play them for a long time, the memories of the times when we were younger and the life was different, sometimes easier. Playing these games now may actually destroy these memories with ease. I've tried EFLC in 2019 and was so disappointed that uninstalled the game on the same day. In 2010 I was playing the hell out of that thing, enjoying the atmosphere, handling and graphics. Now the graphics looks dull, handling is not actually that good and the atmosphere can't make me younger and happier lad and can't transfer me to 2010, when the graphics actually can. I've also tried playing the only missing GTA games from my lifetime playthough, LSC and VCS over the emulator, and despite both running at 60 fps and without any technical issues, I've dropped them quite fast. Idiotic controls makes some missions absolutely impossible and the maps are not as good as I used to remember them back in the years. In 2019 there's absolutely no reason to play them, especially if there are III and VC available as a decent PC versions. Older games often lack polish and re-playing them now will painfully reveal it.

Speaking of unpopular opinions, Mafia 3 actually beats VCS and LCS and if you're like me looking to play something crime oriented with a big, modern open world, it's miles better than old GTAs. It is grindy, but it's atmospheric and unique, unlike the spinoffs like VCS/ LCS.

Not sure how unpopular this is but:

Nintendo needs to get their sh*t together. They are way behind the other consoles.

All I see are nostalgic titles with subpar graphics and their stance on online multiplayer sucks.

A part of me really wants to be a fan of Nintendo and get another one of their consoles, but they simply just don't give me enough reasons to so. I feel like you've failed in 2019 when you don't give people an option to play with their friends online, in games which make sense to play with friends.

Funnily enough in all the years I've been gaming I've never owned a Nintendo console (With the exception of handhelds like the GBA and DS).

Infact I don't even remember playing the old school consoles growing up except for a cousin's N64 maybe for like 30 minutes. Just never appealed to me. Always been more of a Playstation/Xbox guy. However I almost opted for a WII over a 360 in 2009, but went for the 360 instead.

I wanted a Switch, but I just didn't feel like there was enough reasons to buy one. Limited games, and the graphics left much to be desired. The only game that almost got me to buy one was Mario Maker.

Maybe less 'unpopular', more 'just hear me out, okay?', but:

Mafia III's various mechanics (shooting, stealth, etc.) are all really solid compared to other games (which might only do some of them, or only some of them well) - and even better, nearly every mechanic overlaps with another mechanic, allowing for some great organic, improvisatory approaches to problems. I'd go so far as to say it's probably one of the best games to do so outside of a Kojima joint, even.

For instance, if you want to interrogate an informant, you could shoot/punch the guy until they stop fighting back, sneak up and do what is basically variation on a stealth takedown (with the option to recruit/kill them), or chase after them if they make a run for it. They'll even do the GTA thing (like some GTAO enemies do - the crew boss in Trash Talk, for instance) where they might steal a car to escape faster, which turns the whole thing into a car chase, all without being some scripted thing.

However, if you get into a car before the informant drives away, you won't do the GTA thing of just yanking them out of their car - instead, it swaps to a 'drive recklessly until they give in' minigame, of the sort that normally just appears as a scripted event in specific missions. In Mafia III, it's just another option you can use whenever you get the opportunity, so the whole thing doesn't have the air of artificiality that some games do when such specific interactions are limited to specific one-off moments in the story.

That's just one example, but that applies to pretty much everything in the game - the game plays out less like a movie punctuated with a string of theme park rides than, say, a R* single-player experience. None of that 'you didn't do everything exactly as directed - fission mailed!' that frustrates me about GTA V or RDR2 - and I'm somewhat surprised that even the positive takes on Mafia III don't seem to have noticed that about the game. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I actually don't see all the hype about The Last of Us. Just another game with retarded zombies that chase you like idiots. In my book, game/movie/whatever is set in a zombie apocalypse BS = Bad. TLoU is no exception. Fuck zombie games.

With the recently released trailer for Modern Warfare 2019, I just want to say that I really don't feel that the older MW campaigns aren't that compelling. This is from someone who's only played CoD from 2015 and has only binged the campaigns. The setpieces are cool, I guess, but the characters are just shallow. They only look badass and say badass stuff, but there's really not much underneath.

Hell, I even prefer IW's campaign and WW2 over them

It's written by the guy who wrote IW and some Naughty Dog games so I guess I don't have to worry much. Hopefully with how much they're taking stuff from MW to please the audience they don't take the bad aspects in retrospect too.

Also some the multiplayer maps in MW suck hard.
