Unpopular Gaming Opinions

Recommended Posts

Do you have any opinions about anything gaming in general, that most people don't agree with you about? For example, I think that Splinter Cell Conviction was really good, Crash Team Racing is better than any racing game ever made, and 007 Quantum of Solace was better than any Call of Duty ever. Share your unpopular opinions! biggrin.gif

(I know there is an Overrated Underrated topic but this isn't really the same thing. smile.gif )

Most don't agree with me saying Max Payne 1 and 2 were even good.

Battlefield 3, although looks slightly nicer, with better animations and feels more fluent when it comes to player movement, is actually much worse than Bad Company 2.

-Half-Life 1,2 is deeply overrated boring shooter.

-SR3 is OK and no worse than SR1&2.

-GTA CW > all your other "AAA" shooter and action games.

-Even if games are art, shooters definitely aren't (maybe except for CoJ BiB).

-Dota 2 is the worst game ever.

-MP3 is OK game.

I absolutely love and adore Kane and Lynch - the character depth and depth of narrative (as a standalone game without support from novels etc.) is definitely up there. Kane and Lynch 2 is the only game I've ever genuinely felt alive playing.

- Call of Duty is EXTREMELY repetitive, stupid, and worst of all, it's FILLED with 12-year olds.

- Minecraft and Angry Birds are about as fun as watching paint dry, not to mention that they're almost as overrated as CoD, and that almost EVERY SINGLE person here plays Minecraft (and is addicted to it).

Even though I like skyrim,I too find it overrated.

I'd prefer a James Bond game to a CoD game.

A game being more popular because it has multiplayer is stupid.

Dead Island is underrated

The newer Need for Speed games have been sucking and lacking features from the previous ones which were awesome(Underground(2),MW,etc..)

GTA is not the only game on earth.

True Crime series were really underrated.Despite the bugs(I barely had any) they were really fun.

GTA hand-to-hand sucks in general(Improved but slow-paced on IV.)(GTA Game with best combat: Vice City Stories(grapples, snapping people's necks, all epic)

I don't see what people see in Gran Turismo, which is considered a realistic driving simulator but actually it is unrealistic and cars can barely make a corner without going out of the track.

I feel Burnout is underrated and more people should know about it.

Are you Serious?

FIFA is the only sports game people play. @Street Mix How can you not think Half Life 1 and 2 are one of the best shooters of this generation?

Except the really tiny campaign(wait, there's a campaign?),recicled weapons and stuff and barely improved graphics.

To me,CoD died after World at War.

You have your opinion though.

CoD died after CoD4. Some might say after CoD2.

Anyway, my opinion is that I think that 90% of the games people claim that suck, don't, and those people have problems that make it impossible to enjoy something unless it's exactly what they want. I believe doctors call it a stick up your ass.

Ezio Auditore da Firenze isn't that interesting or likeable a character. Yeah he's alright, marginally better than Altair, but certainly not interesting enough to warrant buying the same game two more times to continue his story.

The Godfather games were good.

The Late Goodbye song in Max Payne 2 was terrible.

GTA IV is vastly superior to San Andreas.

Mass Effect 3's ending wasn't that bad.

Michael Ironside couldn't even prevent the Splinter Cell games being boring.

With the exception of Return To Castle Wolfenstein, COD1 and WaW, WWII games were sh*t and there were far too many of them.

The N64 was good, Nintendo should have called it a day and went out on a high note.

Resident Evil 5 was never racist.

The Modern Warfare games are awesome.

This picture isn't attractive or appealing:

Wow that sure is a controversial opinion to hold on the internet. Very brave.

As for myself, apparently I'm unusual among gaming nerds for thinking that all first party Nintendo games are childish. It covers all facets: gameplay, design and aesthetics. The fact that they never introduce new IPs doesn't help either. We must be ironically close to Mario No.64 by now.

A few more

- World War II games are better than modern.

- Naughty Dog messed up Uncharted 3's multiplayer.

- Max Payne 3's multiplayer is extremely fun.

- Crysis 2 was really fun and I cannot wait for 3.

- LA Noire should have had multiplayer. Even if it was just co op.

First of all, I'll throw this out there - GTA 4 was boring.

Secondly, games are too easy these days. Many have done away with a graduated increase in challenge, too. Multiplayer gaming has really changed the way we approach single player games - it's an instant gratification, small learning curve, modulated experience.

I haven't played Mass Effect 3 yet, but I had to play 2 on the hardest setting possible in order to get any challenge out of it. Healing factors and infinite lives? What is this, God Mode for everyone? Why, when I was a kid....

...no, seriously, I'm going to drop a "when I was a kid" on you. I remember getting the Nintendo Power issue that had playthroughs and screenshots of Super Mario World. That sh*t gave me anxiety.

Call Of Duty is fun and not every game needs multiplayer

Call of Duty is fun, the problem is paying 60 bucks for the (almost) same game every year. I used to play WaW alot until I found out about Red Orchestra. And now with RO2 I'm not going back.

I sort of agree with this. He was good in AC2. He was well developed, had a good story arc and was fun. However, there was no point on continuing his story after that and Brotherhood and Revelations because the character doesn't go through no change or character arc so he's kind of bland. Its kinda cool seeing him as an older man but there was no need for two extra games.

The N64 was good

Heaps of people love the N64, including me. Not really an unpopular opinion.

Remember that when the first game came out, it was like nothing else like it? Staying in character the whole time and the enemy AI was epic for the time. Pretty much every shooter since then has been copying HL1. Without it, you wouldn't have many of the shooters today. You might find it overrated but keep that in mind.

Oh, how unpopular.

Call me a fanboy, but I have equal hours spent in IV, Vice City and Vice City Stories, with latter having the longest time, as all 4 times I had 100% done on it, the side-missions were painful and hard to beat. I can easily play in the same map twice, as you can see in me playing VC and VCS and it's the smallest map and almost the least detailed.

How the hell I could be bored in IV with much more things to do and such a detailed and living city if I wasn't in both Vice Cities?

Hell yes! Damn, this is what I'm talking about.

I think I can find an use for FIFA games - they're hella fun to play with friends, even if none of the players like football. However, if you don't have friends, I see no reason why you should play it.

Okay, time for my one.

DiRT Showdown is just a sh*tty game with an already known title slapped to it to just improve sales. Not that like all other DiRTs sucked ass.

Oh, how unpopular.

Sarcasm, obviously? But then you contradict it. Or are you just like, rolling your eyes to say that calling GTA4 boring is a pretty standard statement? It just doesn't add up. Speaking of which:

...you must work for the government. wink.gif

Here's another unpopular opinion - "casual" games are often better than whatever they're being compared to. And people will log a sh*t ton more hours on them, too.

Basically, what I mean is that saying IV is boring is pretty much what most GTA players say. By most of GTA players I mean those who think San Andreas is the best one in series. So, it's not exactly unpopular at all.

"casual" games are often better than whatever they're being compared to. And people will log a sh*t ton more hours on them, too.

Okay, I understand the first part - when casual games are compared to AAA titles, they're usually on the losing side. Which means if you think that the casual games are still better when compared to triple A titles, then your opinion is pretty much unpopular. But the second part isn't unpopular or doesn't relate to the former sentence - it's a fact people spend loads of hours on casual games, that's what they do on their phones while traveling or just generally at work.

My point was less about me liking N64 and more about my dislike of everything Nintendo since the N64, particularly the Wii and DS.

As far as being a popular/unpopular opinion, it depends. For example, COD is immensely popular so one could say that critiscising it would be one of those "unpopular" opinions. Yet at the same time, there has been a lot of hatred towards COD recently, almost to the point of being trendy and particularly in the run up to MW3, so you could also say hating on it is popular.

Agreed on every word.

And I don't know exactly how "unpopular" the following opinions may be, but.. hoo! Hipster time!

- GTAIV was fun for a while, but had little to no depth and was pretty terrible in that regard. Same problem with Skyrim. Beautiful atmosphere and soundtrack, but the VA and depth in gameplay mechanics made the game feel like so much potential wasted. Skyrim was as vast as the ocean but had the depth of a puddle.

- I may sound like some rebellious teenager when I say this, but the rampant standard of casualization and hand-holding in games now has led me to believe this is the worst generation of video games we've had so far. There may be an argument "well then put the difficulty at the highest!" That is another problem, developers are so lazy that when you set it to Hardcore, or Extreme, or xxDUBSTEP_INSANExx mode, they only make the enemies spawn more / faster, or make the bullets do more damage. THATS NOT HOW ITS SUPPOSED TO WORK DAMNIT.

- World of Warcraft has made a huge contributing factor towards gamings decline today, due in part to publishers and developers wasting money and resources thinking they can make a quick buck off the model. If it wasn't for WoW we would have seen more creativity, challenge, and overall better quality in games as a whole today. The thought of no single-player KOTOR 3 makes me weep

- Max Payne 3 was an awful excuse for a Max Payne game, and I am genuinely worried that GTA V will be just as bad. I think Rockstar have been steadily declining in game quality since Vice City.

- I despise Call of Duty 2 because it helped popularize (to some extent) regenerating health, and encouraged laziness.

- The faster the MMO genre goes away (or gets revolutionized in every shape, way and form), the better.
