GTA2 on Steam ?

Recommended Posts

So out of curiosity I searched for "gta" in Steam and...

But there's no download link or anything? Does it recognize that the game is installed on my computer or what? :D But on my Library page it doesn't show GTA2.

edit: Ok, so searching for "grand theft auto" shows GTA1 too. So I guess those were available on Steam but were removed for some reason?

GTA1 and GTA2 are on steam but they were only available in complete bundles with the newer GTA games and they might not be available in all regions. I don't own them on steam, they sure don't make them easy to purchase. I think they aren't included in the current "complete" GTA bundles.

True, they aren't atm - they used to be, so there are people who have them on Steam but I don't think you can obtain them currently.

Didn't Rockstar have GTA/GTA2 on their website for free a few years back? Vaguely remember that.

Where's your GTA V, eh?

By the way, they not only removed GTA 1 and 2 from Steam, but also never gave us the London Packs, which is a shame.

So I guess the only way to legally obtain this game now or the first is to find a disc? And no way to get it digitally?

R* does a bundle sale on steam once every 6 months or so and that is one way to obtain it, just have to wait it out.

GTA2 Gold Edition is still best, even though it's half-bootlegged, lol.

GTA 1 and GTA2 used to be included in the GTA Collection bundle, however they were recently removed, most likely due to the fact that these games were never properly optimized to run on modern PCs, especially GTA 1 which is a pain to get running on Windows 8 and Windows 10.

So, the only way to get them into my Steam library is to buy the full package on GMG, right? Considering it's quite expensive and is not 100% guaranteed, I will not buy it any time soon. Plus, is the full package activated by single key? If so, will i get copies of other games that I already have into my inventory?

This. Not willing to spend $50 especially when the description on that site doesn't even say it contains the games.

"Description

This collection includes:

Grand Theft Auto III

Grand Theft Auto Vice City

Grand Theft Auto San Andreas

Grand Theft Auto IV

Grand Theft Auto IV Episodes From Liberty City"

it is not in the description, thats why im not sure if its 100% in it, but there are many comments on that they got 1+2 too. you can wait for a sale, then you get the pack for 10$, and for me it was worth the risk

And yes: One Key, if you got other titels already, you wont get giftable copies

I still can't get GTA 1 to run decently on my PC

GTA 2 took a bunch of tweaking to get working properly, but even then I'm still having bugs with the menus (not that it's much of a problem, however)

Same, even after the patch that Tomasak posted, it still plays like 17-20 FPS. I'm on Windows 10. They should make a mobile game that contains original game, London packs, 2 and Advance to facilitate our stress to play these games. I'm pretty bored about it. No luck for me.

A good point. Rockstar doesn't probably want to release games that do not work properly on modern systems. They might think it would bring bad publicity.

Manhunt crashes on Vista+ unless the exe is swapped with testapp.exe or /nxcompat and /dynamicbase flags are unchecked

Playing GTA 2 on Windows 8.1 is gives you very annoying fps and game becomes a tiny bit unplayable. I think Steam did the right thing with removing GTA 2.
