I think im slowly entering the period where games seem not to be fun anymore.

For the couple of years most of the game i played were a chore. Those grindy multiplayer games or singleplayer money-sucking games. Could just me being bad with my choices, but i bought only those i felt like worth buying, yet it turned out different later on. And im not talking about every game, RDR2 story mode showed a good example to other games.

After reading gamedev news, i feel like modern games are no longer aimed to satisfy or entertain the player. They are now political or used to drain money in various ways.

Mister Pink

I think my "I want to play most games" phase has peaked. I'm glad. I would play most games just to see what they are like, with the exception of some games of course. But it meant having a large library of unfinished games. So, now, I'm hopeful about getting some few games and just sticking to them and not overwhelming myself with too many and never finishing any.

Bethesda uplay game launcher decided to not recognize my credentials when trying to launch my far cry 5 game, took me over a hour and then after I changed my password , stupid uplay launcher suddenly remembered  my information and launched my game signed in, my steam and gmail are linked with my Bethesda uplay account, so maybe they forgot to link each other properly?

The Time Ranger

I've given up on Kingdom Come Deliverance, I'm not saying it's a bad game, just the opposite in fact. It's got a compelling story and characters, the codex is a great intro to medieval history, gameplay wise it's deep, it takes lots of trial, error and practise to get good at practically everything, from speech, to combat and lockpocking. It's not without it's flaws but overall it's a very solid game.

I appreciate that they wanted to make a tough, high learning curve action rpg, and I knew that going in, I was taking a chance on something new for me but it's just not my thing. I like rpg elements but the simulation aspect is a bit too much for me, having to curb exploration to eat and sleep takes away the fun for me, a game somewhere between this and Skyrim would be great. I'd still recommend it though.

Great video about the current state of videogames in general. The title is self-explanatory.

Awful Waffle

well, video games cost about the same as they have since the late 80s / early 90s. I would say the quality of the best games is about the same as it's ever been.

the difference is access. you can no longer access the same amount of content for the same price. contents and costs have moved very far apart ever since the idea of DLC became utterly corrupted by the biggest studios. developers have taken the once wholesome and fun idea of DLC and spun it into the maniacally greedy and misleading model known as 'Season Passes.' all of your favorite studios are guilty. I cannot think of a single major video game developer who isn't on board with this crap.

60 bucks gets you the base game and that price point hasn't really shifted in decades... but we all know that 60 bucks doesn't get you the full experience because DLC has been turned into a perverted method of ransom-ware which holds the player hostage for their own hobby and pastime. 60 bucks only gets your foot in the door. nowadays there's likely another 50% to 75% of content waiting for you behind several additional paywalls. this cost is hidden from the base price but will become painfully obvious the moment you begin playing the game and see all of the different features you cannot access but which are teasing you and goading you with ingame advertisements asking for your wallet and credit card.

it's pretty fu cking disgusting behavior by the video game industry and I would argue that it directly contributes to the continually thriving world of digital piracy. they don't understand how piracy works.

piracy exists at large because access is sh!t. not because everyone is a wanna be criminal. if access to video games were made more fair and transparent (in terms of price versus content) you might actually see real progress being made in the fight against piracy. this phenomenon has already occurred in the music industry. people weren't stealing music because they're wanna-be thugs. they stole music because the model for access was garbage. people usually want to hear one or two songs from a popular album. but they used to make people buy the whole album just to access their 1 or 2 favorite songs. the moment that the internet came along and provided them a way to curate their music collection, that's exactly what they did. fast forward 10 years later and music piracy is WAY down compared to the early days of file-sharing because the music industry gave into the demands of the pirates and met them halfway through software like Apple, Spotify, etc etc. today we have a resurgence in PAYING for music because people are much more comfortable being allowed to buy / download / stream individual tracks instead of being forced into the price of the whole album.

video games could follow this route if they wanted to. they could open up access and discover that more people are actually willing to pay the entry fee.

but so far they insist on maintaining this ugly, greedy model of price-gouging and extorting their own customers for access to hidden content. thus piracy continues to thrive and expand. the kind of piracy which used to be relatively underground is rapidly going mainstream thanks to these terrible business practices. since the dawn of DRM and Season Passes, video game piracy is becoming easier and more widespread than ever. communities of pirates who used to hide out in IRC channels or private corners of Reddit are now openly sharing and flaunting their work on their own sites and their own forums, raking in their own ad revenue.

video games need to learn how to fight fire with fire or they will continue to lose this battle.

Was thinking about buying Fortnite, but don’t really care about multiplayer. Just wanted to know if there’s a singleplayer mode for Fortnite? Can you play on your own with no other people online? Or do you have to be on multiplayer mode to play Fortnite?

Also, is singleplayer worth it? If I simply buy this game to play on singleplayer mode and that’s it? Would that not be as much fun or not getting my money’s worth out of the game?

Technically, there is, and it wasn't something I was aware of. It's officially called Fortnite: Save The World and differs from its online sister which is officially called Fortnite: Battle Royale, but I always assumed if there was a single player mode to this game, it was a flimsy afterthought. I'm not too familiar with the game itself but at least I know there's a difference now.

I've taken the liberty of merging your topic with our Gaming Chat Café topic which is pinned towards the top of the section. Please use this in future.

For clarifications sake, Fortnite STW was the original version of the game, the BR was an afterthought aimed to cash in on the BR craze... which as far as cash ins go might just be the best cash in of all time.

Fortnite STW is basically just a pretty crappy survival slash tower defense game. It has some kinda cool elements and still gets support last I heard but it's not particularly good.

Anyone knows how to fix the filesyscheck.cfg error in COD Ghosts? Unable to start the game and I get this error. I have the non-steam PC version. Here is what I have tried:

1. Compatibility Checks

2. Troubleshooting

3. Re-installing in C drive.

Hey folks, does anyone have any headset recommendations to use for PS4? I have a very old pair of Logitech G35 which still work fine, but the cable is only minutes from disintegrating. I know that a myriad exists, but are there any cheap/good value sets? Maybe with 7.1 :) :)

I found that indie games are a good replacement after getting bored with how same-y most AAA stuff seemed - also made a conscious effort to play game differently, since I found myself treating games in the meta-environment of gaming with the intention of "winning" or mix/maxing or whatever, which really sucks the fun out quickly. I've sorta been able to recreate some of the magic I had when every game felt fresh with an attitude change, though that'll depend on what's causing burn out tbh.

A buddy of mine got his game Geneshift published on Steam.

He's  been working on it for quite a while now but the wait was worth it in my opinion, I find it quite fun and entertaining it's kind of like a 2-D GTA Battle Royale.

It's free right now go check it out, if you don't like it simply delete it no harm no foul :^:

I actually use my Apple AirPods so you have a pair of those i'd recomend using them the sound quaility is great.

I also own the Official PS Gold Headset the sound quaility is great as well and that's coming from someone who wears hearing aids iff I can hear everything clearly with just the headset and no hearing aids in when i can't hear anything more than 5 feet away with them out.

They're a little expensive but worth it in my opinion

Since people in the r/Gaming on Reddit are assholes can anyone tell me what game this screenshot is from please?

I asked in the thread that picture was posted in and in exchange I got told....

"f*ck off newb"

"If you don't know what game this is from then you're not a REAL gamer"

"Yeah, it's called Super Mario Bros 3"

I never knew "REAL GAMERS" knew the name of every game in exsistence just by looking at a random screenshot

EA pushes their games on Steam. Mass Effect 3 and BF franchise are now available and soon they'll upload Titanfall series, which im a bit interested at.
But you still will have to use Origins in order to play those games. Also AFAIK if you own one of those games in Origin, you'll still have to buy a new one in order to play it via Steam.

For anyone interested in top-notch Zelda-likes, with tons of content and an amazing story, this is coming to console soon after it's time on PC.

I can wholeheartedly recommend it.

Anyone checked out any of the demos in the Steam Game Festival?

It's mostly independent games but there's some cool stuff there. Starmancer and Spiritfarer are both pretty nice.

It's unfortunately not part of the Game Festival stuff so there's no demo, but for a cyberpunk fix check out Gamedec on Steam. It's not out yet but it's a cyberpunk cop based CRPG, it was giving me Disco Elysium vibes when I saw it, it looks very interesting so far. The Ascent is also another cyberpunk style game that looks very interesting, that one is more of an ARPG.

I'ma have to try out Grounded later I think, seems like it could be decent and it's on Games Pass too.

I had a  dream about a  strategic  smart   post-apocalyptic  civilization and society rebuild game, were we have to  reverse engineer old technology were we couldn't find schematics and  rebuild  civilization and society again, and the dlc's addon  packs  could be the  creatures, fiends and robots to fight off etc  , but the base game would be a builder  post-apocalyptic  civilization and society rebuild strategic type game

What do you think of this for a game^^^^^^

Anyone been trying demos from the Steam game festival? I've found a few games that look pretty interesting and I probably would have missed otherwise, I really hope they do this kinda thing more often!

A few that stood out to me were Patrick's Parabox, a neat recursive puzzle game; Sail Forth, a chill FTL-style sailing game; Ynglet, a casual "non-platformer", and Spiritfarer, which is aesthetically...nice

also there's a lot of platformers
