I'm finding it hard to be motivated to play games lately. It's been a downward trend for a while. Got the recent Star Wars game but haven't bothered to install it. Have Battlefront II installed and ready to play. I'm just not feeling it. Other, more productive hobbies and interests have my attention right now. Having said that, I was watching all the hype for the new Xbox. I think I'll just take a break from gaming for a month or two and miss it again before I try to start playing some games. It's a pity because I have some spare time over Christmas.

Been like this for quite some time for me too tbh. Main thing for me right now is trying to find some form of hobby to take myself away from gaming so I feel the desire to enjoy gaming again.

Not sure if this is down to age or the fact I work stupidly unsociable hours, but this generation has been the least interesting for me, so much so I have zero interest at the moment for the next consoles coming out, and that's only added to my gaming burn out, and safe to say if it wasn't for my older consoles and games I'd probably have packed it in for good by now. In some way though, this doesn't bother me... I've come across some really good old retro titles as of late, and find myself enjoying them more than I would be if I was playing them to be part of a crowd.

Yeah working can really suck it out of you. Even if I want to play and have good intentions, I might just be burnt out after work. I need a level of mental energy to enjoy games and if it's not there, I'll just settle for something more passive like a TV series.

I hear ya guys.   Work really interferes with my gaming - both in time and general mental state issues.   I'm a regular married adult and even though I don't have children just maintaining a house and adult life can be time consuming.  That means on a regular day I may have an hour or two to play before my old ass starts to fall asleep.

The mental state issues brought on by the stresses of a career can kill my gaming in a big way.  Somedays I can use a game to escape my work stress but sometimes work stress can be so crazy there is no escaping.

Anybody here subscribe to UPlay +?

Do you think it's worth the price for the list of games they offer?

I don’t know about you guys but i’m so excited for Animal Crossing: New Horizons! i know its coming in less than a month but that new direct has really gotten me looking forward to this one. Plus, it’s the first game in a WHILE that a lot of other people in the same circles im in are getting. (sorry gta, but you’re kind of a tough sell)

I took this picture to use as an example for a different topic, but since it has the original Half Life disc...

I can't say that I've re-played any of the Half Life games since their initial go around.

Currently playing HL2 on xbox...what the f*ck?  Weird.  Anyway, I think a book could be written about the experience and the evolution of video games over these few decades.

Got around to playing the Final Fantasy VII Remake Demo last night...

I was giddy the entire time.  I'm generally not the person that talks very highly of a game when it's just a demo, but if that opening sequence is anywhere close to what we can expect to see in the rest of the game, holy sh*t are we in for a real treat.  It was a truly terrific blend of new-game experience and nostalgia from the original.  My first play through I just went happily button mashing the attack button and while that can work, I can see that down the road more strategy is needed.  The second playthrough I started focusing on being more adept to the controls and timing the differences in battle, especially switching back and forth between Cloud and Barrett.  Third playthrough I actually tried focusing on combat and specifically targeting enemies weaknesses.

The boss battle is where this really shines - you can hack and slash and shoot and burn through potions fighting that beast, but if you target him correctly and get them to stagger quickly, it makes it that much easier to beat.  This is going to be important going forward as that first boss is always the easiest, and it's a long way between some scorpion security bot and Emerald Weapon.

I was on the fence about this game, how it's going to be done episodically (3 episodes), but I'm pretty much all in at this point.  The only way it could have been done better for me personally if it was Final Fantasy VIII instead of VII.  April 10th can't get here fast enough...

I was really hoping for Cyberpunk 2077 to come out next month (and to an extent, Watch_Dogs Legion), but the game comes first, and quality is more important than getting the game early. That said, it's a pain in the arse that the game is coming out during the start of my final year of medical school... I'm not sure if I should get the game on release or wait until the 1 month holiday before FY1. At the moment, I'm still in clinical placements, but there's so much free time. Most of it is spent doing revision, but a significant portion is left for me to enjoy playing RDR2, EU4, HOI4, and Total War:Shogun 2.

Well, atleast TLOU:2 is coming out soon!

It’s the next big fad - everyone is adding a BR mode to their games.  Cool.  Eventually the market will become over saturated.

Remember about 10+ years ago when Nazi Zombies in WaW was a hit?  The next few years was just an over-saturation of zombie games and zombie modes.

RDO tried adding a BR mode - and it sucked.  And now it’s part of a rotation.  Thankfully they took it out of the regular rotation and made it it’s own.  I hate though that for some dailies you HAVE TO play it.

Now the respawn gulag idea is an interesting idea.

I'm not a battle royal fan or even a MP shooter person, but I do like to play everything... if that makes sense.

You know what did it for me with this game?  The environment and graphics.  It's a battle royal with realistic graphics set in neat realistic settings.  I'm sure I'll squeeze in some more hours tomorrow.

I’m playing the Shadow of the Colossus remaster on PS4 as it’s free on PSplus.

This is how you do a remaster.  It’s a pretty good looking game, and it fixes a few things control-wise.  Although the camera still feels like a PS2 era camera.

I’ve heard people playing this remaster who had not played the original saying they weren’t impressed, but you have to take yourself back to 2005 or whenever the original came out and compare it to what we had then.  It’s a work of art in my opinion.  The world is large and vibrant, a world that big in 2005 was spectacular, and the graphics upgrade really brings new life to it.  Yes, if this game came out today, you’d expect it to be a neat indie game.   It’s not long, not super deep in gameplay, but it’s beautiful and the story feels familiar in the way you find a fairytale.

I remember playing this game and thinking how I wanted this to be what future Zelda games feel like, just add side quests, more characters, and more equipment, and it would be a perfect Zelda game.  And honestly, it feels like that’s what they did with Breath of the Wild.  Although, I have a couple gripes with BOTW that I won’t get into.

I would love LA Noire based in the 80s.  The Night Stalker, the rise of crack cocaine, and south central gang wars.

Every GameStop store is closing now.

I think this is the nail in the coffin for them to permanently close.

No chance. Noire already implies 40s so the immersion would be ruined. As much as I would love one I think this is the type of game that doesn't need a sequel.

I hear what you saying. Original Noir in the 40's, is what some might think thinking of Noir. But,  there are some great neo-noir movies and games that bring old noir in to contemporary times and the future (think Taxi Driver, Drive, Blade Runner, even the first Terminator and Cyberpunk/Deus-Ex etc) I actually think a Noir in 80's Miami is a a great idea. It offers a great back-drop for Noir and instead of seeing the city in the same re-hashed Scarface/Vice City way, we have this new kind of fusion of retro-noir.

Just think of this scene except at night in Vice City. Investigating murders related to the drug trade. But really gruesome ones. Doing nighttime detective work. Following and interviewing people in the clubs are bars down there.

It doesn't sound too bad but then I would like some Miami Vice style game too. Fast cars, stylish clothes and the attitude. Although then the glamor would be mixed with dark noir which would make people think that the game didn't know what it wanted.

I get you man. And that's the risk artists take to pull of big concepts I suppose. If it wins, it scores high but if it doesn't hit the mark it could look awful. But remember in L.A. Noire you get to the Vice squad and they got more fancy with their suits and cars. I could actually see the glamour work in it too. It's more about the games cinematography works, using the principles of noir.

True. Vice squad was the point where Sheldon's story started to merge with Cole's story and they pulled the desk of really good. I don't know if we would see an L.A. Noire 2 though considering how Team Bondi is no more.

They could totally pull off another LA Noire detective game.  As far as the hallmarks of Noire I think later detective stories have already proven that anyone can use the dark monologue voiceover.

Where does Agent fit in?  That could have almost been the LA Noire of the 70's.  I know nothing about Agent since I'm not a PS house and would never have had the chance to play.

Totally unrelated:

Im having some good fun with Doom Eternity.

I have seen some concept art that supposedly belonged to Agent? I am not sure what true of it but it showed Austrian Alpine scenes.

Awful Waffle

boy.. Steam can be pretty useless when you're trying to search for new games, unless you already know what you want, in which case they make up for it with some great sales..

American Truck Simulator and the Hitman franchise were each on sale for an 85% discount this weekend. I played Euro Truck Sim, Blood Money, and Absolution back in the day. then I stopped playing them. other games just took my attention away. but I also noticed that American Truck and the newer Hitman games were created as 'episodes;' with large chunks of content rolled out in segments instead of being released all-at-once. of course you have to pay for each one individually and I hate this model so I gave it up.

that being said?

we're stuck at home for quarantine. I'm looking for something new to play. 85% is like an offer I can't refuse. so I snatched up the complete collections of American Truck, Hitman (2016), and Hitman 2 (2018) for just 60 bucks. which finally makes them feel worth it. I dunno exactly how much I saved versus paying for them in order over time. feels like a pretty penny though.
