The only AC game I've played was AC3. Gave me such a bad taste in my mouth that I really can't be interested in the franchise as a whole. Well Ubisoft is kinda f*cking it up with yearly releases anyways. Is Unity even playable yet?

I've been thinking of picking up Subnautica, but I usually don't play survival games for very long....

I barely played the series at all (tried out small bits of every game), and one day, I will give it a full run, from 1 through 3/4 (depends on how well those games will run on my PC).

That's the worst reason to not play the AC series tbh. AC3 was a joke, no point in denying that. It disappointed me, and thousands of others in countless ways. But all games that came before that were great and very fun to play, with a great story. You should play AC1, 2, Brotherhood and Revalations and you'll just fall in love with the series just in time before AC3 f*cks everything up.

I had a troubled relationship with AC III, but eventually it became one of my favorite titles in the series. However, it's still the last game I would recommend to someone just getting into the franchise. That game is a mess and a prime example of grand ambition, great ideas and good writing violently clashing with disjointed development teams, rushing to meet the deadline and steamlining the game to "appeal to a wider audience".

Like Kwabs said, you should pick up AC II and work your way up from there, if you like it. Alternatively, you can start with IV, in my opinion it's the best game in the series and it redeemed and salvaged many AC III's gameplay mechanics. Just keep in mind that it's an odd man out among other ACs and gameplay-wise, it's not a good representative of the series as a whole.

As for Unity, I don't have a next-gen console yet, but I hear that most issues are fixed by now, so you can give that a try too. Unity is also pretty much a soft reboot of the series, so if you start there, you won't miss on anything important, while II and IV rely rather heavily on I and III.

And there were a few things in the game I didn't like that I believe are universal to the whole franchise, but oh well I might still give some of the old games a chance one day.

I feel the exactly the same way, though only difference is I did play and enjoyed AC1. AC3 just destroyed the whole franchise's image for me.

Hello!

Title says it all. I'm thinking about getting a Nintendo 3DS ("New Nintendo 3DS" model). I've grown up with Mario on the Super Nintendo and continued playing Mario/Zelda/Pokémon on NGC, Wii and DS.

I won't buy the WiiU because I don't like it's games at all and I don't have friends who own that console (playing online together and so...). But the New 3DS got my attention. I have never played Zelda: OoT and Zelda: Majora's Mask for example. Twilight Princess was the only Zelda (Wii) I've played so far and I loved it, one of the best games I've ever played. Mario 3D Land and the new Luigi's Mansion would be a must-have, too.

The thing is: My old DS Lite isn't in use since... maybe six years now? Mainly because all DS games besides Mario and Pokémon didn't interest me. I'm afraid of throwing my money away because I'm about to quit my job to go to university at the end of this year, so I won't earn money regularly for a long time. So I think more than twice about buying it.

What do you think about the (new) 3DS? Is it worth the money? When do you think it's lifetime (game support, Nintendo support, etc.) will end? What would you recommend me? Do you have a (new) 3DS and can you give any advices, opinions, etc.? I'd buy the 3DS mainly because of the two Zelda and Mario games. Pokémon doesn't interest me anymore and other 3DS games couldn't hype me so far.

PS Vita is nothing for me because of it's games. For games like that I have my Xbox One, and the Vita's overall line-up doesn't interest me at all. ;)

Thanks alot and sorry for my English!

About to finish Mass Effect 1 for the first time, hoping for a grand finale, then REALLY looking forward to playing ME2, heard it was even better than the first.

Any suggestions for mods when playing ME2?

As much as mods can only enhance game experience, considering you're doing your very first run, don't play with any mods.

Experience the games in their original form first. Complete them, decide what you didn't like, and then pop in some stuff that you would want.

Despite DLC's not being something I encourage (unless they're really good), playing the three games without them will detriment a lot of story elements, amongst other things.

And before you say you won't play twice, trust me, you will. I said the same thing, and I haven't started my second run yet, but not playing this game at least twice would be a great mistake.

I don't know, seems a bit too long to replay, I was going to play Baldur's Gate 2 infinite times (and I have) but I never finished it more than once.

I'm mainly looking for graphical enhancement mods, I found a ENB for it, but haven't found any texture/model replacements yet,

I thought you were going for mods changing the course of gameplay.

Graphical mods should definitely be welcome. Even on the PC version, the textures still are somewhat bad, to be honest.

Finishing it twice, it solely depends on how much you loved the characters and the story. I suppose you are familiar with the backlash Bioware got for Mass Effect 3's endings. Gameplay is considered to be toned down to a generic Gears of War, but I found that to not be true, at least in my opinion. If anything, the gameplay got more fun, and more fluid.

Cover and fast movement in Mass Effect 1 was a bitch. And while the first one was more reminiscent of an RPG, it's not like the second and third games don't have those elements.

I don't know how long Baldur's Gate 2 is (never really got into it), but on my first run, it took me 80-100 hours to complete all three games, with all side-quests and DLC's completed.

Nah I haven't even seen much gameplay changing mods for Mass Effect, but won't be touching those either way until I finish the game properly once.

For ME1 I used ENB and MEUITM for ME2 I haven't been able to find anything decent yet except Cinematographic ENB/Sweet FX settings.

Then again I assume the textures in ME2 are higher res by default. There are some higher-res faces atleast.

I don't remember clearly, but take my word: the armor textures are rubbish, just like the first game.

I have to say I played the first part (10 minutes or so) without the high-res armor textures and my eyes just hurt from the pixelated garbage. Just a black armor with one white stripe on it from bottom-left to top-right looked terrible.

Damn right. I'm not one to complain about a lack of visual quality in some places, but most times they're hidden somewhat. Considering that equipment is quite important in this game, the fact that it looks bad doesn't help at all.

The ME series isn't really that long, all things considered. I'm in a middle of a repeat playthrough now and I've spend only 17-18 hours on ME1. Surprisingly, as I didn't rush at all and got everything I've wanted out of the playthrough. Granted, I didn't bother with any side missions except for those on the Citadel and few others, but I feel most uncharted planet missions are a waste of time on repeated playthroughs anyway. I expect to spend more time on ME2, but it definitely won't be as time consuming as other RPGs are.

This will be a controversial opinion, but I don't consider the ending to be that much of a problem nowadays. Ask me after the game came out and I'd complain too, but now I've cooled off. Yes, it was bad. Yes, Drew Karpyshyn's ending would have been much better. Yes, Bioware lied and then acted like jacka*ses throughout the whole fiasco and only made matters worse. But it's not like it wiped ME1, 2 and good parts about 3 out of the existence. I can still play those games, enjoy their stories for what they are and only suffer through the last 20 minutes of a series that I enjoyed for tens of hours. What's done is done, what could have been fixed without retconning the whole thing was fixed, dwelling on it and condemning the whole trilogy won't help nothing.

Finsihed ME 1 now, took me 27.5 hours on Veteran (highest difficulty I could choose). Decided to go for all the endings as well just to see what happens :p

All endings are fantastic, them speeches.

I'm midway through ME2 right now. I thought I was going to stay faithful to Liara, but nope. Garrus won again. Oh well. Playing through the game so far was, surprisingly, quite bittersweet. Characters are just so great and it's painful to know that there is just one more game left with them. It was different before ME3 came out, there was something to look forward to, but now knowing we'll probably never see them again, especially if ME4 will really be a reboot or distant prequel like I expect it to be...

One other thing I want to comment on is how good the custom Shepard looks. I think Bioware didn't get quite enough praise for that. Too often custom characters look weird, stiff and plastic (hello GTA Online), but custom Shepard looks as good as any other character in the game. No, even better. They did an amazing job with facial animations and you can see all the little details and nuances that really help bring her to life. And Jennifer Hale's/Mark Meer's great voice acting then send it all on a whole new level. It's really hard to make a custom player character feel like a real person and not just player avatar, but Bioware did it.

I'm playing a Japanese samurai custom shepard and unfortunately sometimes when he closes his already quite closed eyes, it looks a bit silly, but definitely a lot better than in any other games with characters customisation.

If you play ME and ME2 right after eachother you can see how much changes there actually were in terms of gameplay and that definitely not all of them are for the positive. The cover system seems to have taken a step backwards as you no longer can decide when to crouch, you can vault over cover now but when was that ever useful?

I despise the ME2 upgrade system, I want gear to drop, a lot, lots of useless junk and then one upgrade to look forward to, the Armor customisation is too limited. I decided to make up a reason for it being like that and move on, that reason was; "Cerberus gives you the best armor and weapons ever created, only thing that can be added are upgrades or completely new weapons not yet discovered", but that reason got owned after the first upgrade was scanned of some dead mercenary. -.-

Generally everything looks a lot better though, but the UI, new controls and new combat has been putting me off from playing for a while now. I mean why did we go from automatic sniper rifles to sniper rifles that have to reload every shot?

I'd like to disagree on cover. While crouching is eliminated, the cover is much more fluid, and easier to use. Vaulting is there for sh*ts and giggles, I can't really say that's a bad thing.

The upgrade system definitely didn't get much better. It's not anymore about the looting that was present in Mass Effect 1. There's a preset number of weapons and armor customizations, and in the end, it all comes down to choosing which equipment is best, rather than finding it yourself. Over the course of the game, you will be given everything, as far as I remember. That sense of searching for good gear is gone.

Also, you shouldn't worry about weapons. If anything, despite a limited choice, the weapons do have some quite substantial differences between each other, that I will not spoil. And there are auto sniper rifles, you just have to play to find them.

Also, I hope you're playing with the DLC's.

The racing game genre seems so damn dead right now. Which sucks. I love racing games, but some of the newer ones don't appeal to me. Gran Turismo 6 is boring to me now, I don't have an XBOX One, so Forza is out of the question, there's little to do in Drive Club, and Project CARS looks and sounds a little too much like Need for Speed Shift and Need for Speed Shift 2 Unleashed (besides graphics), both of which I have played a lot. And to add onto that, what ever happened to street racing games? Are they nonexistent?

They're still around, but some developers do it wrong. I know people hate EA but I think they were the only ones to successfully develop a street racing game with no issue whatsoever. I wouldn't give up hope now. The new NFS game is supposed to be unveiled at this years E3 Gaming Conference.. and I'm pretty excited myself ;)

I think the simulation racing genre is dying. It's literally up to the most popular sims (Forza and GT) to lead the way. The F1 games look cool, but not everybody is into F1 racing.. I just wanna drive regular cars on tracks and what not.
