Does anyone like RPGs or Action Adventure games better? Stuff like=

RPGs would be like:

-Fallout

-Silent Storm

-Mass Effect

-The Elder Scrolls

- Dragon Age etc

Action Adventure games would be like:

-Grand Theft Auto

-Far Cry

-Red Dead Redemption

-The Legend of Zelda

-Metal Gear Solid 5 etc

For me, well I'm kinda leaning on Action Adventure at the moment. Combat's a lot faster, though I do miss the gritty realism in Silent Storm when it came to damage indication and status effects like bleeding, deafness, blindness, crippled limbs. Good thing about both genres is the awesome mod support though I think Action Adventure has a wider variety of mods, unless I ain't checked NMA or Fallout nexus well enough. Replay ability of both gets to me a lot in Action Adventure, but it also has a lot more you can do once you complete the main story line. Which do you prefer playing? I moved this from a thread I made to here so.

Eventually the two will become one.

But for now they're separate. Slowly integrating though.

I wouldn't say "slowly". Dragon Age, Fallout, and The Elder Scrolls are all essentially action adventure RPGs. They share a ton of elements with each other. There's becoming no certain defining point between the two, really.

Both genres are actually quite vague in terms of definition and the action-adventure genre is probably the most encompassing out of any as a result of that vagueness.

For Witcher, should I play the series chronologically or will the introduction in Witcher III will suffice to tell the whole story up to the point of Wicher III?

Yeah, well technically you could call games like Witcher 3 action-adventure as well as RPG. It certainly has action and adventure. And a lot of games known as action-adventure do have elements of RPG games, but just don't reach the same level of depth. So far a lot of action-adventure games have relied more on presentation and satisfying combat where as RPGs rely more on the progression and choices you make. I just think a lot of future games will feel very rich in all those aspects. Maybe Witcher 3 is already like that, I haven't played it.

Because what defines an action-adventure game is so vague and broad.

Tomb Raider. Assassin's Creed. Resident Evil. Silent Hill. Metroid. Half-Life. Banjo-Kazooie. To add to the list of other notable series' already mentioned.

I'd be leaning from Action/Adventure to RPG now. A/A is definitely more accessible and most likely easier to pick up for an hour and put it down. RPG's require a few hours sitting at a time. Often the combat isn't as fast in RPG's but the level of character progress and actually RPGness I find is more immersive than say a GTA character.

Well I've already made two threads about the genre and no one replied so maybe i'll get some luck here. Anyone here like shoot em ups like space invaders galaga, ikaruga, and radiant silvergun?

I like my RPG games to have places you can just go and chill - like talking, trading, crafting. Action games can sometimes be non stop fighting, I don't always wanna fight these days.

So does every f*cking game made by triple A companies get a limited edition console now? Remember when limited edition consoles were actually something special and rare? Pepperidge Farm remembers.

I didn't realized there were cheats for this game until last year.

WHAT?!

I mean, I tried so freaking hard and did a lot of big scores, but never tried cheats :(

Holy crap check this out!

youtube.com/watch?v=YGFpRLjWpS4

this is probably the future of gaming.

in some sense.

like I've already got a nice computer and PS4.

but someday... why should we all have to spend the money to build a powerful PC or buy a powerful console? the machines should be in some remote location and the rest of us can just access their power when we need it to 'stream' software to our local browser.

Streaming services like that have been around for some time (although not via the browser, they had a separate client but it's essentially the same thing).

The big problem is latency - unless the computer the game's being run on is really close to you, there'll be noticeable input lag, and while that's okay for some games, it doesn't really cut it for a lot of them. Unfortunately this isn't a bandwidth problem but rather how fast the signal travels which is bounded by the speed of light, so it cannot improve.

Still, don't know why it isn't more popular.

There used to be this thing:

http://onlive.com

I actually used it a looong time ago. You could play game through a streamed PC in your browser.

You of course had to pay to play the full games, there were demos.

It was pretty nice for what it was, then Sony acquired it, it went on stand-by for years and now it is closed.

I played a sh*tload of online Homefront on that.

For 30 mins of course. After that I exit the program and went right back in.

It was good enough, but there wasn't much support for a lot of stuff. Saints Row 3, Homefront, Sleeping Dogs and L.A Noire come to mind.

I heard Onlive didn't really nail it. But didn't Sony make something new like that for the PS4?

Also while game streaming does have the benefit of you not having to own a powerful machine to process the game, it also allows absolute DRM for publishers unless someone hacks into the servers or something. I don't like the idea of games being exclusively in a service like that, but I doubt it's something that would happen in the near future.

It didn't really hurt anyone. Back then I had a really weak PC, so it was good for me.

yeah I know streaming services have existed.

but it's too early in the process.

I'm talking another 10 years or more.

when global average broadband speeds are more in sync and the remote hardware is better. eventually we should all be streaming. instead of building PCs or buying consoles.

hey people

I just finished skyrim's and Dragonslayer quest for the thousand time and used Dragonbone Ebonsteel Armor by Dreogan during the quest and I wanted to display it in my three characters main homes, and the shield placed to large on the wall, so I used Jaxonz Positioner mod to re-size it to how it would be if I placed it on the mannequin, but wanted it on the wall above the mannequin and when I had placed the dragonbone shield it was way bigger on the wall then the steel brown shield beside it!..

here is a screenshot of the dragonbone shield re-sized, it glows red around the edges because it is enchanted, let me know please if I re-sized it right with Jaxonz Positioner mod????

shield is on the top left hand side above the mannequins (shield has been re-sized already)

So I'm just gonna say this.

A lot of people apparently hated the flying controls in Lego Marvel, saying they were unresponsive and pretty unpleasant.

And while I agree that they could have been better, I gotta say... It took me like 5 minutes to completely master them. Then I just beat every single air race within 1-2 tries. I even started flying around for the fun of it, seeing where I could fly and the tight spaces I could fit through. I got how people find it annoying that if you're low enough the game will straight up drop you and that it'll push you out of the way if it even thinks you're gonna fly into a beam or something even if you're not. But once I understood what the game was trying to do and under what circumstances I'd be f*cked, flying was pretty easy and it eventually became enjoyable, especially with characters that have a vibrant flying animation.

It's that f*cking rooftop parkour race that got on my f*cking nerves.
