Very Abnormal GTA V Settings Problem

A couple days ago I downloaded GTA V and played the game with the default graphic settings it gave me. I was running the game at 60 fps at 1920 x 1080 resolution (the native resolution of my laptop). Everything was running great- both online and in the story mode.

The next day, I decided to hook up my laptop to my 1920 x 1080 TV to just try out to see how some games ran on a big TV. I was playing games like Mortal Kombat X, Fallout 4, and, of course, GTA V. The games ran relatively smoothly except for GTA. I could no longer run the game with the default settings at 1080p; to play the game at 1080p I would have to "Ignore Suggested Limits" and even when I did I got ~20 - 30 fps.

The really weird, and problematic thing is that now everytime I go and try to play GTA V on my laptop I can't run the game at 1080p, I have to play at 1280 x 720 and even still my fps isn't 60, it only is at 800 x 600. The point is, what is going on? How do I reverse whatever settings changed my laptop from running the game at 1080p 60 fps to now much less optimal settings?

Here are my laptop specs:

Intel Core i7-4720HQ CPPU @ 2.60 GHz

8.00 GB of RAM

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960M

Windows 10 Home 64 bit

How many gigs of vram do you have? I got a laptop similar toyours execpt a gtx 860m and I over 300 megabites over my vram limit, still runs fine even with very high grass. Sure get the occasional stutter but it goes away after I turn my cooling pad on.

This worked for me:

Disconnect your HDTV. In Windows, Go to Documents/RockstarGames/GTA5/Common/. Find 'settings, xml' and delete it.

Start GTA5, the game will then re-generate the settings.xml file and will recognize the native settings of your laptop's

display panel.

If you plan to use the laptop with the TV again, make sure the settings.xml file is set to "Read only" or the issue will repeat.

If this doesn't work, keypress 'ALT+ENTER', the screen will go to black for half a second then correct resolution and refresh rate will return.
