Murciélago
I might get a new car soon but I can't decide which one I want since they're all nice cars. (And yes, I know this is a long list lol) 1. Nissan 350Z - around $4,500 2. Mazda RX8 - around $4,000 3. Honda S2000 - around $8,500 4. Infiniti G35 - around $6,500 5. Acura RSX - around $5,000 6. Mitsubishi 3000GT - around $1,500 7. Jaguar XJR - around $2,
MindCorrupt
Looking at importing an Rx7 into the UK from Japan. Have been on the hunt for the right one over here for a while now and theres only been a couple that have popped up in the last 6 months that were in the right spec and in the right price range but both were snapped up within a day of advertising. So off to the auctions it is then I think.

Starting with some process of elimination: not an XJR or RX8 because of reliability woes. The 3000GT is a very complicated machine, aim for the base model with as little technical wizardry as possible, nobody needs four-wheel steering and electronically controlled suspension. QuackinAColdOne
So I took my road test today. Didn't go so well, I'm bad luck prone when it comes to this. As I was driving to the DMV with my dad and brother, the rear view mirror fell off so we had to head to Auto Zone to get it fixed which almost made us late and costed us about $10. Keep in mind this is my brother's car and I'm used to it whatsoever, and due to him being irritable, he wouldn't teach me anything about the knobs and dials. First thing I was asked to do during the test was turn on my headlights, which I didn't know how to do (I guess that was my fault though). Then, I was asked to turn on the 4-way hazard lights, which I couldn't locate, and resulted in me accidentally turning on the windshield wipers lol. I pull out of the parking space just fine, but the first thing he makes me do is parallel park. Since my brother's car is so f*cking long, I bumped the barrel while backing up. I guess I just have to wait until next time then.

Have a family member take you to some parking lot and let them teach you about all of the driver controls. I'm still learning new things about our family Explorer every day, but maybe that's because I'm reading the manual

TCMike
I want to buy something with a big naturally aspirated V8, since I feel like those are a dying breed. I also want it to have a manual gearbox, for obvious reasons, but also because it seems like those might have another nail in their coffin too. I was thinking about picking up a C6 Corvette. They're getting reasonably priced. I'd prefer a later LS3 model with the Z51 pack, but I don't think it would mind an earlier LS2 car at all. But with the new 2016 Camaro SS being so good, I feel conflicted. I've never bought a brand new car before, so I think a Camaro SS would be a worthy candidate. It can be specced with that trick dual mode exhaust, magnetic shocks, and Brembo brakes. It's quite a machine. But there is another problem for me now. I really want to move into a new house. I love my current house, it's 1700 sq ft, has a 2 car garage, is fairly new, and my mortgage is only $712 a month. But I feel like I live out in the sticks and I put a lot of miles on my daily driver. It would be awesome to move closer to my office, except it would be much more expensive and having any extra debt might make getting approved for a new mortgage difficult. For the time being I'll just keep saving cash until I decide what to do. It may go towards a badass new car or it may go towards a new house. Decisions, decisions. ?!=+_-
I wouldn't want to do loads of miles on a new car but if I had the space I'd have a new one and just a work car and look forward to driving the new one. Knowing it's keeping nice and new and can be your pride and joy that can be used for work occasionally.

epoxi
14 hours seems pretty generous for an exhaust replacement. Then again I have a 4 cylinder which literally has half the amount of exhaust. Still, 7 hours per exhaust... El Dildo
it's just a tentative schedule. these are bolt ons, relatively speaking. they'll have to do their own small bends to match the exhaust to the heads and they'll do some custom welds for the cutout. the time frame is not explicit to the installation itself, but includes the tune and dyno. epoxi and Flachbau

sivispacem
Nearly $5k sounds like a lot for filters, exhaust and a remap. Svip
Nearly $5k sounds like a lot for filters, exhaust and a remap. I am spending around $7k for a complete motor renovation of a 42-year old DS 23 engine. Sure, not a completely obscure engine, but hardly common these days. That price seems reasonable for such a job. $5k seems like a lot for filters, exhaust and a remap. El Diablo, is your car a classic like mine? El Dildo
the filters includes a new air box that goes underneath the car. and I could easily install the filters but I don't have the space or the components to install the exhaust or heads. I'd rather pay a reputable place with a great track record the money to do it right, as they take care of everything and followups are free (if/when adjustments need to be made). most of the cost is the cost of parts, you guys. 1/3 is the cost of install and it's only tentative. we've already spoken again since yesterday over the phone and it's likely that I won't need the ECU or the dyno time. it's also likely that we're going to trade the SLP heads for Hooker heads which cost a little less. I don't care about matching name brands. so when the day comes, I won't be paying much more than 4k. the estimate starts @ 5k and 14 hours because it starts @ the highest point possible. that's the maximum time it should take and they give you room to scale back on the price at your discretion. that sheet isn't final. El Diablo, is your car a classic like mine? well, it's a 2002 WS6. so no, it's not a classic "like yours," but when it reaches 25 years it's going to be on the classic car registry. these vehicles are already becoming highly sought after in the anniversary years. 2002 is the last of the breed. as a brand, Pontiac no longer exists and the Firebird was discontinued in favor of the ongoing Chevy Camaro. and the WS6 is the highest-end production model available. beyond that you could get a Firehawk, but those were specially ordered from a dealer and custom built at the factory. they're extremely hard to find. El Dildo
alright we've spoken again this afternoon.we're going with the Kooks headers. thousand dollars flat, as opposed to 1300.also skipping the dyno time in favor of just the tune. dyno isn't necessary at this stage but you wouldn't want to skip a tune after this kind of work. when it's done, assuming they were to use the maximum amount of time, I won't be paying more than $4,300. I have heard that generation Trans Am (and Camaro) can be a bit tough to work on. The engine is pushed pretty far back, so there is little room to get around it. to an extent you are correct.that is part of the potential total time they factored into the 14 hour estimate. Adrenalist
^ That's pretty badass. Just dropped off the F-150 for a paint correction. Been meaning to do it for the last year and a half. Can't wait to see how it turns out! This year so far, I bought my sub amps, dsp, and dsp director for my stereo project on the truck. This is a build using the best stereo equipment money can buy, so it's taken about two years just to get my speakers and what you see here... It's a side project, so I'm only buying equipment as finances allow. But, hopefully by the end of this year I will get situated on my mids/highs amps. Then I have to redesign all of the amplifier's heatsinks for watercooling because space is limited and the amps run hot. Other than that, I just finished up phase one on my sportbike modifications and think that one's at a close for the rest of the year. epoxi and HeavyDuke
NightHawkEVO
Hey guys, me again. Hoping you guys can help me decide on what my first car should be. Take into account I live Canada where we get extreme amounts of snow during the winter. Oh and potholes are a big problem in our city... not fun. Here are some cars I've thought about...1. Mitsubishi Lancer - 4 cyl. Available AWD or "All Wheel Control" as they say it.2. Subaru Impreza/WRX - Boxer engine. Available as a Sedan or Hatch. Paying for premium gas though...3. Lexus IS300 - IRL Sultan4. Lexus GS300 - A 2JZ Sedan? What more can I ask for?!5. Honda Civic - Last resort... but it ain't that bad of a car lol.6. Mazda Miata - Fun little car. 4 cyl. and apparently slow, so it shouldn't get me in a whole lot of trouble. Might need to find a hardtop for it though. And possibly store it during the winters.7. Nissan 240SX (S13 or S14) - Because drift car.8. Nissan 350Z - Beautiful car but consumes gas real quick. 9. Volkswagen Golf - One of the best looking hatches out there.
