Sure you could get a range rover and outfit it with the coolest off-road gear but it wouldn't ever compare to a jeep wrangler's capability dollar by dollar. If I were to spend 80K on something it would be a Jeep JK, order yourself a sweet set of Currie built axles, throw it on some 37 inch Kevlar Goodyear tires, buy yourself a Warn 8274 winch, get yourself a Tom Woods driveshaft set, deck it out with bumpers from MetalCloak... and save close to 25K. Unless you're simply looking to overspend... In which case I'd say hunt yourself down an older rover defender and set it up on nice coils... Throw in a winch and center diff lock. MyName'sJeff
Not fully sure. Thinking of buying a starter car just after my birthday in July, so I'll have to wait and see especially since I have 4 years of Uni, with the 3rd being placement year. I need a job in the summer though, so I can whack it out and save some dough in 2-4 months if possible. GTA-Biker
I´m planning to do some little work on my motorcycle (checking the engine after winter, installing a new battery, repainting some parts, getting saddlebags and installing them...) and hopefully finally getting a car (some cheap hatchback or sedan from the 90s,I can´t afford anything better right now). Was sleepy. By luxury I didn't mean total comfort, I know off road vehicles can never achieve that. I just meant a good suspension, transmission etc. Less bumpy. Thanks for the reply! Svip
Please! Enough with your cars with conventional suspension! They are boring. I probably won't be buying a new car in 2016 (unless I find a Series 1 CX Prestige *foams from mouth*), because I will instead be spending on fixing my current cars: DS My DS 23 is getting the most significant fix. Head gasket replacement Piston replacement Cylinder head replacement Some fixing to the camshaft Clutch disc replacement A few other thingies Basically a pretty big engine sweep, but at least it will run pretty great again. Most of the additional fixes are due to the fact that 'since we have the engine out', why not also replace these things that will eventually become problems? That might delay those another forty years. Hehe. And before you say why not just get a new one? The cost for the repairs is still far below half what the car is worth. And finding another engine in good (i.e. better) condition is not only hard, it's also more expensive. Xantia My Xantia Activa V6 is also getting some stuff done. Not as significant as my DS (partly because the Xantia's engine is pretty unbeatable). But even so... Fix its air/condition (although, I feel I might already have done that; just need to confirm it). Replace its suspension spheres with XM spheres for better ride comfort. Dust off rust surface from its lower left. Then have some plate work done on its left back door (a classic spot for rust on Xantias). Find a non-Nordic front bumper to replace my current one (I do not like the spray thingies that aim at my front lights). Then have the car repainted (in its original colour!), because the plate work and the new front bumper will not likely have the same colour. And the roof needs repainting anyway. Then undercoat it. So hopefully my cars will be pretty great. As for driving plans, due to my DS' significant repairs, I've cancelled my North American road trip in 2016 (and currently pushed it to 2017). Instead I've replaced them with a European road trip. It's also easier to get other people to join in on, so we can split the cost. Anyway, I look forward to 2016 and getting my Citroëns up to speed again. Edited December 25, 2015 by Svip K1FFLOM and El Dildo
El Dildo
as some of you guys know I bought this 02' WS6 in April. still less than 50k miles. this Summer I had planned to drop in a few bolt-ons... but then we bought a condo. suddenly I'm a first time homeowner and it's been totally overwhelming. and awesome. but I was broke for months and everything else I had going on at the time went on hold, including all the plans for the Bird. until now! sometime this Spring, hopefully before the end of February, I'll be able to install the Borla catback along with an electronic cutout and a set of headers. I'm also considering a new intake that would be more like sucking air through open nostrils instead of feeding it through a box. it's only getting louder and quicker from here. I would love to get a new camshaft by the end of the year. maybe new cam, new manifold, perhaps even drop out the cats for an ORY or add new gears with a torque converter. Coleco
2016 Motoring plans? To keep my little Almera (Libby) alive for another year... Of the 948 CD20 engined Almeras registered in the UK, under 50 have survived at the time of writing. Only 27 of these are on the road, one of which is mine. Needs a lot of attention to the rear arches (rub-down and respray), rear jacking points and rust treatment around the sunroof. Aside from that she's a solid runner - the body will disintegrate long before the engine does, particularly with how much rain we get. Front cross-member was (finally) replaced in April and also had the underside treated last winter but in a year or so it'll need to be done again. This one is still stock specification with original trim throughout (though admittedly a little threadbare), even has the original rubber mats and cassette radio inside! I wanna keep her going until I can afford to 'retire' her from daily driver status, and in future I'd love to give her a full restoration. Cars like this rarely get preserved and when the number of UK registered CD20's inevitably drops to 1, I want it to be Libby dewtech and epoxi

Coleco
I can see why they're overlooked - no well-known racing / rally pedigree, historic significance or trendsetting styling, but I like these cars because they've got some kind of personal significance to me (and obviously everyone has different experiences). I've got Currie control arms with Johnny joints on both ends, I've got BDS track bars front and rear, I've incorporated an Adam's rear drive shaft and advanced adapters slip yoke eliminator... Couple that with the Iron rock crossover steering... I'd say the design may be conventional, but the makeup is far from it. It used to be a jeep thing, but all that sh!t broke lmao. Rewdalf
Probably going to stop messing with my daily driver and work on my new project. It's a 1988 Porsche 924S. Bought and towed it home yesterday. 2016 looks a bit like this. -Fix transmission -Re-attach parking brake -Change out all the filters -New spark plugs/wires -Grab a windshield wiper motor and fit it -Take apart & fix passenger side door -Repaint wheels -Replace brakes -New taillights -New front bumper -New fog lights/turn signals -New seats -General engine tuning Once it's up and running, and looking beautiful again, I'll probably try to squeeze a bit more horsepower out of it. ?!=+_-
In February I will have had the same Fiat Punto for 7 years, a new car is on the horizon. I'll be getting a brand new car but I'm waiting to see what is announced this year. Was thinking about getting the new Focus RS but it's just a bit too much really. The fiesta ST is more my budget but I've seen that a fiesta RS could be coming so I'm going to wait this year and see or what other cars there will be. NightHawkEVO
Plan to get my intermediate license this year. Me and a friend are thinking of buying an SR20DE engine. Here's a picture of the engine: Plus, I'm in a Power Mechanics class and we'll be doing some crazy stuff, so we'll see what happens . NightHawkEVO
$300 strikes me as pretty expensive for an old Nissan engine given you can get entire cars powered by it for not much more. Welp, I live in the middle of Canada (Winnipeg, Manitoba) and you can hardly find any imported cars selling for a low price, so finding this old Nissan engine is kinda "different" I guess you can say. The best place to get an import where I live is to go to the coast, like Vancouver, and buy one there. Heck, I can't even find a beater for less than $1000, in my area. It could be just me not looking hard enough for one... Buying the engine might seem expensive, but as I said it's something "different" for me. -Silence*
$300 for a SR20 isn't a bad deal at all, assuming it ran good, had good compression etc.... this coming from an Albertan that see S Chassis drift tax out the ass ahaha. Edit: Just to add some perspective when I had to replace the motor in my BMW it costed me $1250 for the new motor and that was on the "cheap" end of the scale at the time.
