Please explain why. I am about to buy my first helicopter and so this thread should help.

Side question: would it be worth it to wait and save for a yacht since it comes with helicopters?

The Buzzard is pointless to buy because it spawns very often in free roam, while the Savage doesn't. Both are a waste of money either way, get a Hydra.

I read that the savage has more damage than the hydra...so why the hydra?

Because not everything you read is true, and because the Hydra is much faster, it can avoid homing rockets easily, and helicopters just aren't good for anything because you will never beat a good Hydra pilot in a Savage/Buzzard. The Hydra is the king of the sky.

Both choppers are borderline useless in free roam. The Savage is flat out better in missions.

Out of the two I'd say the Savage, but if you want to buy something for free roam it's Hydra or go home.

It depends what you are going to use it for.

If you gonna use it for missions, the Buzzard I good enough and cheaper.

Savage have a much higher rate of fire, that's it. In missions that don't really matter Buzzard missiles are good enough.

Also the Buzzard is much nicer to fly, the Savage is too heavy and feels like flying a blob.

If you gonna use it in freeroam, yeah well don't buy a heli get the Hydra, much easier to greif with a hydra as I understand it from reading posts on this forum.

If the purpose is missions, get the savage. I invested in it, and it made grinding missions a breeze and even somewhat fun. The savage alone is basically what made me my fortune, apart from heists also ofc.

For free roam, as said above, hydra. Buying the buzzard would be pointless anyway, due to how it spawns pretty much everywhere all the time.

Well if it's your first helicopter, you probably don't want it for free mode (since it takes a lot of practice to get anything out of helicopters). If you do want it for free mode, then I'd strongly recommend a Hydra. If it has to be a helicopter though, then either - both have their strengths. The Savage is better at general combat, while the Buzzard is a better all - round helicopter (it's small and agile, so can land quickly, pick up friends, hide from homing launchers better, etc.).

For missions, I would probably start with a Buzzard. It just feels more reliable, and it can do all the missions a Savage can (whereas there are some missions a Savage can't do while the Buzzard can). It lands better, has more forgiving handling, and is stronger. The Savage can clear most missions quicker with its better firepower, but it's also very weak, and the handling is sluggish - for a first helicopter the Buzzard might be a better buy.

I can't fly a jet very well, so the hydra isn't very effective for me. I love the savage, the unlimited missles at a time, the explosive bullets... I find the hydra to be far inferior to the savage. But as in all these questions, it's really personal preference.

If you plan on grinding missions then I recommend the Savage. It's good for grinding Los Santos connection and a few other missions. And plus the buzzard spawns at helipads if your level is high enough. Or alternatively you can buy a hydra. More expensive but we'll worth the investment.

The Lone Wanderer

op buy either for missions, it's irrelevant.

if you want to use it in freemode and missions, get a hydra and learn how to wreck sh*t with it.

Helicopters don't spawn normally in missions, except in specific scripted circumstances. Don't count on just grabbing a random buzzard in a mission.

- Buzzard has a few major advantages over the Savage: speed/acceleration, size/manuverability, and more resistant to small arms fire

- Savage has one advantage over the Buzzard: Rate of fire for rockets/explosive cannon. (DPS)

I pick the Buzzard over the Savage in most situations.

It goes places other birds can't. I rarely feel like the buzzard's rockets are insufficient.

If your buying it for missions then hands down the Buzzard!

The Savage is slow and feeble and its cannon is useless in missions as your missiles lock on to the enemy

I bought one for my main character and I wish I could sell it

There's a thread running now calling for R* to give the Savage a Buff, pretty much everyone agrees it's Sh*t

How is the hydra for missions?

The buzzard is slightly quicker and because its smaller I'd say it's a harder target to shoot at and is more agile.

Buzzard.

As much as i love the savage and mil mi 24 and i bought it as soon it unlocked...the buzzard is overall more practical by far.

Smooth Longsack

The Buzzard is the better buy because you can spawn it as a VIP.

If only we could have firepower of the savage combined with the agile handling of the buzzard that would make something amazing.

I like the savge more, however I picked the buzzard because it spawns for free, is more maneuverable, and is pretty durable.

I am assuming you are buying it to use for contact missions...personally, i use the Savage more, but i recommend the Buzzard as your first helicopter. It will do everything a Savage will do, but is much easier to fly and especially to land, making it a better choice for missions like high profile case where landing is tricky, or for many missions like judging the jury or on the list where you are flying from target to target on a timer and you dont have a Hydra to use for these missions.

Due to it being agile and quicker, it covers a lot of ground for transportation and catching up to flying enemies.

Dual Lock on / Homing Missiles with twin Chain Guns, I love it :D

I use it for quite a few of the Missions I play.

Savage comes very well armed...

...but it's kind of slow and cumbersome to fly

Buzzard is pretty well armed...

...and is a dream to fly

I use both pretty regularly - and enjoy them both immensely - but the Buzzard just about edges it for me :) (sorry Savage fans!)
