Has Rockstar ever addressed the fact that the traffic deliberately cut

How about when you're running across the street and the NPC in the FQ speeds up just to make sure he kills you?

Dr Labuschagne

I kind hate how NPC's turn into a junction, then go on to their lane and decide to U-turn in the middle of f*cking traffic. You just can't anticipate with these f-bags anymore

This makes driving in China feel a lot safer than driving in Los Santos where NPC drivers are too incompetent to use signal indicators to change lanes, going as far as to intentionally cut you off for no reason at all.

I don't really notice that often, I rarely ever complain about traffic f*cking with me.

It happened to me fairly often in SP, probably because there was more traffic, idk.

You can notice it when youre speeding down towards a junction and NPC cars going across eithet slow down or speed up just to make you crash into them

The traffic's not that bad. Learn to dodge and slow down when required.

Nothing needs addressed here.

Had to laugh at the bit about no handbrake when the phone is up. Dude's never heard of the left trigger. Laziest gamer ever confirmed.

R* won't address NPC behavior, because it's not game breaking. It's obvious they coded the AI traffic to drive erratically and purposefully off course to obstruct your path. When you see some asshole barrel through an intersection all while flipping you off, knowing your coming, and never once touching the brakes, that isn't accidental. They will match your speed at times, should you choose to go full throttle, like most do. They stop next to your car when entering and won't move until you get the car started and step on the gas. They know exactly what's going on around them. It's a bit of a groin slap at times if you ask me. I've had an NPC purposefully change lanes twice in front of me, nowhere near an intersection or turning lane.

RL radar already has an ability to pick out a random moving object, adjust for speed and bearing and give a highest % chance of the next direction said object could possibly travel. Put that in GTA and you have NPCs that can do the crazy bullsh*t they do, when you are within range.

THANK YOU! I thought I was the only one who noticed this. It was this way too in GTA IV. Especially on the Algonquin bridge. Mvthafvckas would purposely cut you off and drive into you on purpose.

It's gotten worse in GTA V. Especially when you're trying to keep your car crispy clean. Rockstar programmed it this way simply to troll players. It can get very annoying at times.

I think it was far worse in GTA IV than it is in V. I don't get that feeling that the world is out to get me like I did with IV.

That's a reasonable and intelligent response to my post. I'm a badass. That's cool. Thanks :)

I love you Monkey

Again, the test is simple. Drive the limit, obey the laws, and watch how other drivers react by driving correctly most of the time. Yes, there's going to be random assholes, but you'll find those in real life, as well. Will there be more random assholes in Los Santos versus Los Angeles? Yes, because it's a game and it's supposed to be somewhat challenging and a little bit over the top.

Now that you've seen them driving normal, make them react in panic mode. Speed, run into a few cars, or shoot a gun and suddenly their behaviour turns into exactly what you're complaining about.

Working as designed.

Damn, I thought you were talking about drug traffic. I'm disappointed

I also don't think its as bad as some suggest. Try obeying the traffic rules and generally there is not an issue. It only seems to be when you are screaming through traffic and breaking road rules (which off course for most of us is 99% of the time) that issues occur. Also I have never seen a NPC drive on the sidewalk unless there is some sort of firefight happening to cause them to freak out.

A mate I play with regularly complains about the cars pulling out in front of him. I continue to point out he is running a red light and the NPC legally has the right of way.

No the AI is not perfect but its not really that bad and definitely not a game breaker as some make it out to be.

I see it as a cheap way of making the game more challenging like many games before it AVGN anyone? Overall I find it helps me improve my driving in traffic as I have to be more careful and actually look at the whole road to make adjustments where necessary. Still annoying as f**k lol.

Of course it's programmed that way. As for acknowledgement, since R* is tight lipped about such things. I'm not aware of them addressing it. Remember Rooftop Rumble version 1, was all about avoiding the AI after you got the package. They came beaming at you and you were T-boned if you weren't watching them. I always felt that was the beta run for that code. With current gen, it got fully integrated.

Going out on a limb, it's this way because R* created Los Santos as a caricature of Los Angeles, this includes nutty driving by caffeine laden people. So, it's taken to the extreme. Thus, you get a AI car crossing two lanes to beam you.

I stopped getting annoyed by it long ago.

It's bad to an extent. Rockstar makes traffic online more basic. On story mode you'll see the npcs more frequently slow down to turn and even use there turn signals.

On online is can get pretty crappy. If I'm shooting in one direction I shouldn't have an NPC cut across three lanes into the opposite ones just to hit me from behind. Or to run me over and keep driving when I do nothing wrong.

I used to think maybe it was just a coincidence that the car in front of me decided to switch lanes at the last second. But then I started seeing instances of cars crossing over into the oncoming lane of traffic or driving onto the sidewalk just to do it. Has Rockstar ever admitted to programming the traffic to do this deliberately and offered any reasoning for it? It's definitely one of the worst (if not the worst) aspects of the game design.

I would say you're new to GTA games.... but i see your join date on here is 2010.... so um, im assuming youve been playing GTA games for a while now. I'm also assuming you know how to use google. Usually I'm not one of those types of people in forums that tell other people to use google....because that's the point of forums. You google something and it take you to a forum where your question was answered. BUT in this case, since your join date is 2010.... im also assuming you know just as much as anyone else at these forums about your question.... so use google.

Arrows to Athens

I certainly don't think this is a coincidence. Police love to lag in front of me or prevent me from overtaking them, even though there is a large amount of space on the right side for me to pass them. Cars tend to just turn right onto oncoming traffic just to hit you, and they do random u-turns in the midde of the road. Also, when you are about pass through an intersection, an NPC coming from the right or left side will literally slow down to wait for you, and then speed up to time the collison right.

Just lazy or nonsensical programming, I guess.

Well, Rockstar is all about environmental realism, and you've described LA drivers to a T. Therefore, they got it right.

last night while i was driving around los santos in one car i got off the street and i was stopped at railroad crossing and the crossing gate was down (because a train was coming) i was stuck in traffic and i had a car ahead of me.

so i started doing a burn out causing the driver ahead of me to panic and floor it as head started goiing through the crossing his car was creamed by the train setting car on fire and killing the driver

i just think the npc drivers can be stupid or jerks! .

I am convinced it was programmed this way on purpose to add additional obstacles to the game (you will pay attention to their NPC's).

Absolutely! When you go back to when the game was first released on 360/PS3, it was technically a next gen game, that was de-tuned drastically in order to be compatible on previous gen consoles... If you remember back to those systems, what would often happen when you would be going full speed? The world would start to de-render around you because the GPU could'nt keep up. I'm positive that the NPC-AI was deliberately created to pull out in front of you once you exceed a certain speed, to slow you down and keep you from noticing GTA's shortcomings on previous gen.

That said, with current gen, we no longer have those rendering issues and if they were so inclined, R* could easily dispose with the hindering (and much hated) NPC AI... I don't see that happening, but it would be VERY nice! :)

It is programmed, google Angry Drivers Mod.

There is a "targeting value", when it's on max, all drivers go "hurr, must drive into the player"

I've done testing myself, though it wasn't completely strict. I notice it a lot though and indeed it's one of the things that tends to raise my blood pressure quite quickly. Based on knowledge in programming and the statistics of how often it happens (including when driving carefully), I personally believe it is by design.

Combining alternate yet parallel universes can probably be rather difficult this leads me to the conclusion that the traffic is only trying to survive the amalgamation it's not nearly as Bad in single player

Is this The Guy?

From what I know it's programmed In a way that npc cars are drawn to you like a magnet.

Best way I found this out was when I was doing missions where you have to deliver cars to Trevor's garage. If you stay in the driveway and wait a bit you'll have a line of cars form behind you lol

OP, is this your first GTA game? Serious question..

To answer your question: yes. Traffic has been addressed on several occasions. They have made it more and more aggressive intentionally.

I can agree with the concept of the car disappearing on you when you turn around, and go a certain paces forward... but the rest of what this guy is saying is crap. He feels superior on the road by deliberately speeding by driving like a manic, and thinks that every NPC should yield to his terrible driving.

Entitlements is by far high on this guy... thinking that hes the king of the roads without consequences.

I hope he doesn't have a drivers license in the real world.
