Has Rockstar ever addressed the fact that the traffic deliberately cut

I used to think maybe it was just a coincidence that the car in front of me decided to switch lanes at the last second. But then I started seeing instances of cars crossing over into the oncoming lane of traffic or driving onto the sidewalk just to do it. Has Rockstar ever admitted to programming the traffic to do this deliberately and offered any reasoning for it? It's definitely one of the worst (if not the worst) aspects of the game design.

I am convinced it was programmed this way on purpose to add additional obstacles to the game (you will pay attention to their NPC's).

It's sad because the amount of times I get cut off in the game is still proportional to the amount of times I get cut off when I'm driving in the real world.

Well, Rockstar is all about environmental realism, and you've described LA drivers to a T. Therefore, they got it right.

To say nothing of a car ambling along when some douchebag comes flying up behind it doing 110mph, in and out of traffic, and probably waving a bomb out the window.

I see no issues with the traffic. As the kids say, "get good."

So LA drivers being bad is their excuse for poor AI programming? Wow.

The fact that you took me completely seriously kind of entertains me.

THANK YOU! I thought I was the only one who noticed this. It was this way too in GTA IV. Especially on the Algonquin bridge. Mvthafvckas would purposely cut you off and drive into you on purpose.

It's gotten worse in GTA V. Especially when you're trying to keep your car crispy clean. Rockstar programmed it this way simply to troll players. It can get very annoying at times.

It's been like that since GTA3 I reckon, I don't see them ever explaining it. In fairness I believe that a lot of the time, in free roam, the AI is trying to anticipate your movements and get out of your way but doing a piss poor job of it. In races and missions however I see traffic behaviour that suggests the cars are programmed to f**k you up.

Miss Malevolent

It gets really crazy when you try to do the, "drive 30 minutes without wrecking" challenge. I know folks just go to the airport to get the medallion. But try doing that sh*t driving up and down the coasts.

Those drivers are a menace to society.

I got that one by driving along the Senora Freeway with an Adder of all cars. Maybe I was just being lucky.

Never thought of doing it in the airport, but that seems very boring.

They kind of have addressed it by adding this car:

It is very boring. I still haven't buckled down to finish this thing. One day I will...

I've never had a problem with it. It's a huge improvement over the highway traffic that was in San Andreas.

Solid Scorpion

Nagh it's a mathematically worked out algorithm converted into an in-game mechanic

to slow you down so you earn money more slowly and are forced to buy shark cards.

Conspiracy!

Its purposely like that and lets be honest here...are you following all the traffic laws when you drive on GTA? Chances are no so don't talk about the next driver when your constantly running red lights and speeding all over the place.

If I wanted to follow the speed limit I would play Mafia 2, not GTA

maybe it is just me, but never seem to have as much problems with NPC traffic as everyone else does. true i get some that swerve over switching lanes and what not, but since i watch and anticipate what the traffic might do i act accordingly and almost never have a collision. i feel most people that are having trouble with NPC traffic tend to see an opening and drive straight for it not realizing that opening is going to close until it is too late. learning road awareness is what i recommend. :beerhat:

This is the worst thing I've ever read.

I enjoy when a NPC car does a u turn for no actual reason and then just goes back the way it was going. Really great in time trials.

No sense of humor whatever, lol...OP is complaing about NPC drivers with bad behavior and yet he doesn't take any blame for his...if your speeding and a car turns in front of you its YOUR fault.

It's my fault that the NPC decided to drive on the sidewalk in an obvious attempt to cut me off? Mmkay.

No, it's just sh*t. It IS NOT programmed to pull in front of you. Please, anyone with a degree in computer programming and experience building AI systems, along with specific knowledge of deterministic logic programming feel free to discuss it with me. No-one here has even the vaguest concept of how hard it would be to make it do something that we humans consider so simple.

Okay - here's a test for you. Make a 30 minute video of you driving through traffic, doing your best to just drive normally. This will obviously include crashes and times when you avoided them. Now, watch that video and keep a tally of every single time you see a car "pull out on purpose". That will give you a reasonable approximation of how often if happens, yeah? Then, watch the same video again and count every single vehicle that does *not* "pull out on purpose". It will shadow the tiny number of accidents you had, vastly.

I have explained in the past what is going on, but I've been inadequate in my explanations, purely because this is something I have a certain amount of knowledge about and talked as if everyone else has the same knowledge. That's my fault, and I apologise. Unfortunately, I'd have to type reams and reams of information that would edge people's knowledge slowly towards understanding this concept, in order to explain myself clearly.

Basically, I know for a fact that it's not doing what is suggested, but you'll all talk about it as if it does.

My friends complain that traffic goes out of there way to hit them..

I have played this game for several years now and not once have I felt traffic was deliberately trying to hit me. I've seen them change lanes very close to me, but I'm also in a gunfight with cops going 120mph on the highway... I would expect the traffic to act pretty damn crazy.

But even when driving peacefully, I never notice traffic behaving THAT odd. They definitely do illegal u-turns now and again, but I've never felt as though it gets in my way.

It's ok for you to speed like an EF 5 tornado cutting NPCs drivers off the road yet it's not OK for the NPC drivers to do the same.

YOU GUYS ARE HYPOCRITES!

Unless if you drive like a church mouse and obey traffic laws in this game... enough bitching about how NPCs are making your game miserable because they won't let you own the road with your terrible driving.

It's called........ Instant KARMA!

Watch out guys.. we have a badass over here.

You don't need any knowledge of computers to tell that the traffic isn't pulling infront of you on purpose. The pathing of the AI acts weird when they near intersections. They make split second decisions and switch lanes when nearing a turn. Players just so happen to be going fast enough that it seems like the AI is switching lanes into the player all the time.

So if they are not programmed to deliberately cut you off, then you're basically saying that they are programmed to drive in oncoming lanes of traffic and on sidewalks which isn't any better.
