Which was the best part of the game?

Recommended Posts

Journey_95

Definetly the first part in LS. I know some dislike the gangbanging but I thought it was great and very well done. The first part in LS had the best atmosphere that rivals VC's but the latter wins since it didn't drop it.

It felt relatively grounded (for the 3D Era) and the missions were fun without going silly and jumping the shark

I wish the whole game was more focused on the gangbanging. Its what made the game unique (we already had mob stuff etc.)

After Badlands the story gets really messy and becomes trainwreck, CJ suffers from it too BUT the memorable side characters and interesting standalone story arcs save it (the whole Loco Syndicate stuff and of course the mob story in LV)

For ex:

Catalina: I know it's you, you stinking perro!

Carl Johnson: Look, just say what you gotta say. I ain't interested in these stupid games!

Catalina: Stupid games? This is my heart you play with!

Carl Johnson: What? Look, you... Damn! Gotta change my number!

LMAO.

There are many cutscenes that highlight my love for this game. The ones that come to mind usually have a nice vibe going for them. Trying to remember them:

- Cleaning the Hood (chilling with the homies while planning to take back the hood)

- Robbing Uncle Sam (Ryder high as f*ck just talking sh*t with Carl)

- Reuniting the Families (last time the GSF OGs together)

- Body Harvest (something really cool about that motel room combined with Tenpenny being high)

- King in Exile (that safe feeling of being away from the violent streets as Carl meets Kendl and Cesar in a tiny trailer)

- Amphibious Assault (whether it's the "can you swim?" cutscene where they play PS2 or the other one with Carl telling the condom in the sea story. I'd go as far as say all the Woozie segments in SF are nice because I just love his "office" in the betting shop)

- all the casino segments (Classy businessmen doing their thing as they plan to dominate LV over the mobs. Can't get better than that!)

- The Meat Business (Fun stuff with Ken high on coke)

- Vertical Bird (cozy house warming with Madd Dogg on the mic while it's raining outside, pretty nice until Toreno interrupts)

- Riot (Sweet is back as they plan to return to the Grove Street and take over while chilling in the mansion with the rest of Carl's team)

As you can tell, I love indoor cutscenes.

To give an answer closer to the thread, my favorite part of the game is when I'm in Las Venturas. Always sunny, rich and able to constantly customize cars and buy expensive clothing, can gamble in the casino and just enjoy the glamorous bright lights of the city. Not to discount the first portion in LS which is where it feels most at home or SF with the awesome hilly roads and the ability to mod your car close to your garage.

The Loco Syndicate section of the story was very excellent, I liked it even more once I replayed it again and understood it more clearly . It's my second favourite part after the gang stuff when CJ first gets back to LS. I loved infiltrating the Syndicate through Jizzy B and the final showdown with T-Bone Mendez, Ryder, and the Ballas.

The first part was brilliant. The SF part wasn't bad either, the thrill of driving to a brand new city was absolutely amazing, so were the first few missions in San Fierro. Some of the triad missions and most of the Loco Syndicate missions were great, but San Fierro became pretty bland very quickly. Las Venturas was wasted for me because of some of the horrible missions (Freefall, among others) and then the final missions in LS starting from the riot were epic. Gave a great climactic feel to the finale.

I hated my time in the desert and the only good mission in the countryside was the first mission.

The LV journey. Toreno's unique missions, the conflict between the mafias, and the casino heist were just magnificent and a great piece of development over the cliched 'In da hood!" thingy in LS.

Its fine if you dislike the hood stuff in general (I personally like it and wish the whole game was about that since we already have enough mafia in the other GTA's) but lets not get silly the mafia part was just as cliche

The Las Venturas section. It made the game for me and is one of best sections of a game in history . The rest of the game is good too, but LV elevated it greatly imop.

You're entitled to your opinion of course, but that's a very dumb comment and one that don't make much sense either. I don't see how you can say the the hood stuff was cliched in San Andreas, simply because it was the first time ever in GTA history that it had been the main theme of the game. In fact, it was the first time it had ever been done in a video game, let alone GTA.

By the time the SA had been released, the Mafia theme in GTA had already been extensively used, they were central to the main stories of both III and Vice City, and the GTAs before them (except GTA London). Even the Houser brothers stated that they didn't want the Mafia to play too big a role in IV because it was overused and too cliched.

The Los Santos parts. The San Fierro bits and especially the LV bits always felt weird and off to me. I still love but not as much as the time spent in Ganton with Ryrder, Smoke and Sweet. The story for San Andreas always felt weird to me. You have the somewhat grounded missions in LS then it goes to full blown crazy in LV. Even the countryside missions weren't that bad. But once you hit the later parts of SF, that grounded feeling disappears. I'm not saying it needed to stick with the gang sh*t. But I wish it picked a tone and stuck with it, no matter what it was. Even though I think the story is the weakest part of SA, it more than makes up for its shortcomings with the amazing, varied gameplay and the wonderful characters. That's why it still remains my 2nd favorite GTA game thus far.

We are very much in agreement on the same things regarding this subject. The reason I like VC the best over SA is because VC's story was grounded all the way throughout and it was brilliantly paced and played out. SA's story was like this for most of it until when CJ moves on from SF, I just didn't like the Mike Toreno stuff, and the green goo nonsense. And while the LV dalliances with the Mafia was not a bad idea, it was still a bit too much, the Mafia involvement in LV should have been kept to a bare minimum. I wish the gang stuff had dominated and intertwined with the story all the way through the game, not just in the first and last quarter. But the array of amazing, fun characters and very interesting scripts in SA's story makes up for it's slightly messy structure, it more than keeps you entertained through most of it.

But imagine a story where CJ beings the Families to take over new turf in parts of SF and LV ? An angle like that should have been explored after CJ leaves SF.

LV part of the game was the only thing that I didn't find the best, though interesting and fun in its own right, but the story really does drag and nosedive when CJ got busy with the LV activities instead of returning back to the LS.

I'd be fine if LV wasn't included in the game and would've preferred more of the hood action and activities in LS and SF.

Rockstar really missed out on fleshing out Ryder and Big Smoke in not giving them more screen time for players to enjoy their interaction and relationship with Carl, and even other Grove Street characters, instead of giving that sh*tty character OG LOC so much importance than he deserved.

Still, I enjoy everything about SA including the awesome Jetpack and find the game as a whole; fantastic entertainment of the series.

I also find the variety of races as one of the best and the strongest aspect of this game.

Yeah, like I said, the LV parts aren't really bad but just feel off to the rest of the story. SF was kind of off too but not nearly as bad as the desert missions and LV missions. Ryder, in my opinion, should never have been an antagonist and I always feel like it was a last minute decision. Maybe they didn't know what to do with his character or something but I've noticed that 90% of the time, CJ only mentions Smoke as betraying him and not Ryder. Hell, even in The Green Sabre, he doesn't mention Ryder once. I can sit here and talk about the sh*tty moments of the story all day long but at the end of the day, part of me still loves all of it.

Agreed, the story is a trainwreck after the countryside missions. SF was ok at times but after that it was just ridiculous. Its like three different stories mixed into one.

But like you said the overall gameplay and great memorable characters save it.

Still I wish they focused more on the hood part. The atmosphere was great in the first LS part and really unique to GTA and then they just dumped it and we got the mafia again. Its like they didn't have enough faith in the gangbanging stuff.

It definitely seems like it. No one really cares that he betrayed them, its like Ryder doesn't even exists anymore. Its all about Big Smoke.

Where you meet with the homies and roll with them, like Reuniting the Families (last time ;( ), Drive By, Drive Thru (I'll want to number nines...), but I think it is when in middle of SF missions, when everything gets f*cked up, like killing Jizzy and Ryder, or when you meet Toreno.

Then comes A Home In the Hills...

Yeah I agree Journey95

I just don't like the way the Mafia once again came into prominence in LV part. I understand the play on the real life Mafia control of the main Las Vegas casinos, but I it shouldn't have been a prominent part of the story. I wish the Los Santos street gangs had more of a presence in SF and turned up in LV as part of the main story. Like they migrate to these two cities to expand and cause CJ even more further trouble. That would have been much better, rather than just veering away straight to the Mafia angle once again.

TBH,I love almost every aspect in San Andreas,I mean,I loved the early Los Santos' missions, with the homies that always maked me laugh,San Fierro with amazing missions with the Triads and The Loco Syndicate,Las Venturas with the lovely Caligula's heist strand and the Mafia,The Badlands and The Dessert with the mysteries that lie in there, the Return to Los Santos missions with Madd Dogg and the reformed hood, and the list goes on...

The countryside mission strand and San Fierro always holds strong memories in my heart.

The same goes for me. The Countryside and San Fierro. It's about Carl "starting anew" after having lost everything - the gang, his brother, his home (he is "exiled" from Los Santos by Tenpenny, although gameplay-wise he can return there whenever you wish), maybe even his purpose in life - and by building new connections and alliances he finally begins a new life, away from the ghettos and gang mentality. Here we see Carl develop his personality deeply, evolving aspects we wouldn't experience when he was "down with the 'hood".

I also believe there could be more tension or interesting storyline aspects in the desert part of the game. For me, it is too rushed, just 5 missions for Toreno and you unlock Las Venturas and begin helping Wu Zi Mu run the casino.

Replaying on ps4. Wrong side of the tracks was a breeze. Driving school still sucks balls. Air raid and supply train or whatever it's called is still f*cking stupid. Can't wait to play freefall, I always loved that mission.

I particularly appreciate the Las Venturas part with the conflict between the mafia families. Driving Johnny at top speed, the kidnapping in the hospital, the slaughterhouse, Marco's bistro and my favorite mission in the whole game; the casino heist.

The best part of the game is when I started playing Zero missions, it's like 'WOAH DUDE, it's hard and CHALLENGING!"

Seriously I really love Zero missions because of it's difficulty. GTA San Andreas has a lot number of missions, most of them are easy but Zero missions is totally rocks! That's In My Opinion, don't get offended with it please.

Wrong side of the tracks was too easy. just go on the ramp near railway crossing, wait for the train then drive the bike onto the damn Train, then shoot those vagos if you have SMG.

I finished it on my first try.
