Girlfriends dumping Niko out of the blue

Does doing something trigger this or is it just a random occurrence? Kiki dumped Niko while I had the fondness at 100% and after a successful date. The only difference was I didn't bother to dress up this time because I only needed to maintain the 100%. It happened maybe a day or two after the date. On my last playthrough, all the girlfriends dumped me at some point or another, except for Kate and Michelle of course.
