Friday is unlikely because usually R* would announced the news on Tuesday and Thursday.

 

Thursday is the last day so don't get your hopes up.

I can confirm that there is no GTA/Rockstar related event going on next week in LA revolving around an announcement for a upcoming game or dlc. Please don't believe anyone trying to hype you up. I will only tell you the truth and I have my sources too.

Back on last gen I thought and submitted an idea that they could make a next gen series of GTA V games that are all stand alone expansions to GTA V/Online. They'd all install to the same file directory (GTA V) but you wouldn't have to own V to play the others. (If you didn't own V the other game would install the main game files. If you owned V or one of the other titles it would only install the new content)

 

Basically it could look this this:

 

GTA V

GTA (V) IV Remake (or in this case a new side Story featuring one or more of GTA protagonists in a new city

GTA (V) Los Ventures

GTA (V) San Fierro

GTA (V) Vice City

 

(The V would be invisible in the games title)

 

All cities would be standalone games, but act as expansions to each other for GTA:Online by incorporating their data into one unified folder under GTA V. This would also allow all Online player items (character models, hair styles, tattoos, clothing, weapons, vehicles) to transfer between cities without having to have the items installed for each title wasting HDD space. They could even pull NPC data from one "games" files to use a tourist NPCS in another city. If you owned V and whatever game has Liberty City, you might see some Los Santos NPCs hanging around the Statue of Happiness, Francis IA or other tourist destinations. Maybe even the rare some LS model car with LS license plates. Cities would also load independently with a travel load screen that changes bases on your method of travel. (Unless you start that cities game up first) When traveling between cities you'd be prompted to switch discs. (Unless you own them digitally)

 

Doing this would be financially beneficial for Rockstar. Instead of players trading in V when the next GTA releases, they'd have to keep their V disc if they want to revisit LS in Online since they'd have to verify they own the game. It would also support GTA V sales after future titles release. Say someone just got into GTA and their first entry was a hypothetical GTA (V) Vice City. Once they get playing Online they spot players driving vehicles, wearing clothing and using guns that are only purchasable in Los Santos. If they wanted those items, they'd have to go buy a copy of GTA V.

 

Basically Rockstar releasing Liberty City or other cities as standalone titles that all interconnect as one massive game would be good for business. (Oh, and imagine seeing GTA V's folder being 200GB+ after having multiple games installed to it after a few years)

As far as I know, Liberty City is online only DLC and I never saw any SP proof of it. I know that we can't purchase any properties in Liberty City just yet; we will all get a hotel room there with a garage, until they decide to expand it.
